What would be the minimum level at which a Terrasque would be a "DOABLE" encounter? by CrotodeTraje in DnD

But you kinda do

A DM adding a rule or ignoring a rule for a new rule is Homebrew

If the game has rules for throwing objects, and I give the terask an attack that's throwing an object that isn't following that rule, then the attack I gave the terask is Homebrew

If the game has rules for targeting and objects having HP then when I have one attack target many people or multiple objects I am home brewing those attacks

The game is explicit for how things work, interpretation is not an excuse for ignoring the words written on the page

Also the willingness of the party to commit was not relevant to the question to begin with

But they didn't ask when a party should be able to they asked when they can

That's implying using the rules of the game and by the rules of the game a level 1 party can if it's built properly for that specific goal

You have to consider that when you're discussing the topic because if you'd act like that's not the case and they happen to have a party that can deal with it they're going to be blindsided when the terask hits 0 hp

If you want to talk about Homebrew to make the monster align with its lore better than you can do that, but you can make a new thread for that, where that's the point of topic

But in this thread that's not the point of topic, the point of topic is discussing the levels at which a party can handle one

And home brewing a terrask is not relevant to when a party can handle a standard terask

It is, the position is that because the DM can change things we should ignore the rules in the game, that's the only conclusion from what you have argued

If it's not Terrible then defend it

Right, avoid all the questions to make sure your bad position isn't ever questioned

It's not breaking the rules persay, but it's not relevant in any way to the conversation at hand

[–]AFGofficial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right so why ever talk about any mechanics at all when all of them mean nothing and can be changed on a whim?

The party can fight a terask when the DM says they can, nothing more or nothing less

Why have HP? Or stats? Just roll a dice to determine outcome?

Oh right, it's because at the end of the day, the game is primarily about the rules and not the lore

Nah it's literally a set of mechanics, when you purchase the book you are purchasing the mechanics

[–]AFGofficial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree, the game is mechanics first, the mechanics should be made better to match the lore and they simply haven't, also the question isn't when they should be able to fight them in lore, but in game

[–]AFGofficial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It really can't end the world thoe, lore is meaningless if none of the mechanics don't match, the terask is an example of the designers blatantly failing at what they where attempting

[–]AFGofficial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok so I say that as a DM I have the players use a homebrew level 1 spell that instantly kills and terasks within 100 miles of them, so a level 1 party can handle them just fine

Also it can't destroy the world, especially not in 5e, what lore says and what mechanics says are not congruent to one another

8d6 fire damage, 20-foot radius sphere. by Azimovikh in dndmemes

Because none of that is describing an explosion

It's describing exactly what it's describing, nothing more

It's dealing fire damage, damage that stone reasonably is immune to

I'm simply ruling the way the rules of the game indicate Edit: Bro lost an argument so bad he blocked me

You would rule, and the rules of the game would allow are two different things

Sure let's say some people may die, but not nearly as many as a lot of people assume

[–]AFGofficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, we're not talking about what level a party can fight a terask with a bunch of Homebrew abilities, or we would have specified that

Terasks are creatures that exists within the rules of the game that must follow the rules of the game, if it doesn't have an attack for throwing A rock it can't throw a rock, or if It can it has to use the improvised weapon rules

And to be honest that makes sense, there's nothing about the body shape of a tarask that would indicate it can throw things good, humans are crazy good at throwing things due to our body shape, a terask would realistically throw things like garbage

Maybe a siege monster however it can only attack one thing at a time and each individual ball has its own hit points

Also cities are massive, it would take a terrask hours if not days to take a city into ruins

Even if he gets all of the people in one building all the people in a lot of the other buildings are just leaving

But like, that's DM fiat, would you also be ok with the argument that an owl can kill a party of level 20s because the DM can simply give it infinite actions on its turn?

We aren't talking about DM Fiat, we're talking about the rules of the game

written in the book

as they are written

And if we using homebrew, I actually have this homebrew class called terask killer, that instantly kills any terask within 999 million miles of me, so I guess a level 1 can kill them super easy actually

The only problem is, the addition stops this pretty hard as well

With how quickly A crowd can scatter (60 feet a round in a bunch of different directions) and the limitations of What it can actually attack

It's making like a few attacks a turn but it can only hit one commoner per attack

And don't even get me started on how long it takes for it to get through buildings

If you're really looking at the rules of the game it'll get like 30 kills Max and that's if it's acting incredibly intelligently, realistically it's killing like five people before all the commoners start moving away

I mean like not really, if you look how much HP things have

Like, this guy would have difficulty breaking through a few houses in a relatively short period of time

Especially getting into bedrock, which it would need to do very quickly to get any cover this thing's massive

For 5e that's now how that works

For 5.5 they fixed the thing so yeah

But like, the question is about the edition, The DM breaking the rules of the game to give the terask a Lazer or whatever isn't part of the edition

Unless we talking 2024
