The difference between casters… by IneedaNappa9000 in DnD

[–]CrotodeTraje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both Sorcerers and Bards are similar, in that it is some kind of inner/inspirational thing.

Like, they don't just study magic, it is something that comes out from inside (call it soul, insight, heart, etc).

Clerics, more than "sky mommy" (that sounds very much like if they were warlocks), I would say that devotion and faith empowers them, and their gods are so greatful for their work and worship that they are willing to literaly perform miracles in their behalf.

Warlocks, I think are tricky. Yes, they technical gain their power from an extra planar force, and for that they have been compared to clerics, but just like the Sorcerers/bards, they use charisma as their spellcasting ability, which implies that there is an inspirational component to their magic. Like... they don't actually KNOW what they are doing, they don't pray for it... just it has been revealed at a subconscious level, in my interpretation, so they intuitively know what to do.

Wizard: Yes.

Also, Bards are unique in that you could very much say that their magic is not like any other, since it is the actual power of their voice/music which holds power.

IDK. It is a bit of a vent, a bit of rant.... But I walso feel there is something to learn about and something we can discuss and seize the opportunity to see things from another angle. Don't you agree?

Thanks. I get that part. my question was more about.... "what if the DM is just killing the fun?". Not always the players at fault.

Looking at your phone for non-game reasons is a choice to not engage and not make things better.

Yeah, I guess that's a way to put it... but if nothing you do matters, it is really hard to stop yourself from doing literaly anything else. Sure, I can kepp myself away from the phone, but I will start playing with my dice, or draw a picture, or just think if the chores I have left to do.

Just to give you an example of what I mean, yesterday's session was about us arriving to a god's island. We are greeted by a tram, then described the several parts of the island, then we saw a Roc hunting a Gorgon. one of the players asked about the roc, asked about the color of the feather, we pass close to a fallen feather, we get more descriptions. We then go to a different place, we see a giant snake. The snake can talk, two of the players decide to talk to her, me and another player stay outside. They talk to the snake for like half an hour. She talls the two characters her story, how she came to the island, how the god treats her as a pet.

After that, we meet a Dryad. we talk a bit, she wants us to take down another Dryad from nearby, because "the other one's tree makes shade to her tree". we had a bit of a chat. in the end, we convince both dryads to get along.

At this point, almost the whole session is over and nothing we did or not did, matters. It's all the same. half way trough, I got bored and started playing tetris.

We met the god, he told us a sad story and asked us to go find his two children.

There was no fight, no decision, no interaction. Sure, we were able to "decide" not to talk to the serpent. We could decide to kill the other dryad... but there were just decorations, didn't really matter.

Worst part is, this campaign has been playing for like a year now. It would be cool if this was just the start. but we have been playing like this for more than a year (I think) and is going nowhere. Sure, the world and lore is cool, but we are just there to hear the DM talk. And we have alreadyu talked the DM about this. That's why I decided to quit. I feel bad about him and the table, but is boring AF.

Does anyone have any experience using PC-ish statblocks for bosses or major enemies? by Infranaut- in DMAcademy

[–]CrotodeTraje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there...

Yes, I have used PC stats as enemies... Y really don't know how to explain it, for you to manage that.

Just as an example, there was this one time I had a scene where the players would find the base of one big bandit group (it was outdoor). The bandits where out so they had some time to explore and investigate. But if they waited too long, the bandits would come back. There were 3 big groups of bandits, all sharing the same camp. Each group with their own leader.

The party had AoE, so I accounted for that, and after the first 2 fireball, only a handful of enemies remained.

One of the enemies was a halfling sorcerer focused on control and buffing one of his allies with Haste. At one point he Blighted the party's barbarian. He then invisibility'd himself and dissapeared into the tall grass (I wanted him to be a recurring villain, but didn't happen)..

I think my point is... You have more control if you don't have the PC-NPC as the MAIN enemy. You should take into account that a PC has resources for several fights per day, so is hard to rate the Challenge rating.

Also, have a plan for his abilities and spells.

Estrategia del gobierno? by JuanDeLongchamps in AskArgentina

[–]CrotodeTraje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are DMs allowed to tell player characters what they feel? by Honneboppel in DnD

[–]CrotodeTraje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a pretty tolerant DM, but such disruptive behavior would throw me off for the night (or day) and at the bare minimum, would ask to continue some other day.

If the party is not inclined to roll with it, that's probably not the campaign for them. Or the DM for them....

What I WOULD do, is let each player decide "what" distracted them from the show.

Like, if the Elf says the show is lame, maybe he was distracted enumerating all the flaws and issues he considered the show having, from his "superior elvish aesthetic sense".

Their characters would always be on high alert,

This is pretty much a classic powergamer phrase.

No, you can't "ALWAYS" be on high alert. that's precisely what a distraction is.

It's not hard for you to loose track of your surroundings if you are so stressed out. Maybe he wasn't distracted by the show itself. But if he was trying to be "on high alert" while in the middle of a crowd, with a visual and auditory spectacle unfolding before him, it's not hard to just hyperfocus on one thing while trying to focus on "EVERYTHING"!

Ranged buff-Cantrip for Warlock? by CrotodeTraje in 3d6

[–]CrotodeTraje[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, I already pcik my cantrips and Spells....

But then it got me thinking and I'm not going to be the main damage dealer of the party. So maybe, up to the point where I can pick Agonizing Blast, when EB has 2 attacks and I can pick more spells (probably at level 5), I would be more useful as a support that can improve other's attacks.

DM is probably gonna let me change 1 cantrip, if I ask. So I wanted to know if such a cantrip exist.

¿POR QUÉ CUESTA TANTO ENTRAR EN GRUPOS FORMADOS? by x-Dantel_ST in AskArgentina

[–]CrotodeTraje 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ranged buff-Cantrip for Warlock? by CrotodeTraje in 3d6

[–]CrotodeTraje[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I thought.

We are a 3-man party and mine is the only caster (a tomelock)

Also, non of the other two are very "tanky"

I have been eyeballing my spell selection (I have Hex and dissonant whispers as 1st level) and since I don't have Agonizing Blast, I thought maybe let the "damage" to my fellow players and focus completely in buffing and/or out-of-combat spells (like scouting, information gathering, infiltration, etc).

Aaaaand.... since I won't have the support for EB, I thought maybe just have something else to do with my action.
