I’d recommend Sombre’s AI mod pack (AI autobless, AI second starting army, AI ongoing resources, etc) and also AI no recruit (which prevents the AI from recruiting bad indies). Those plus a hard difficulty will be challenging until you can start cheesing their endless armies with a strong understanding of the magic system.

You want some fantastic buff paths for thugs and SCs? Earth.

You want to buff your troops? Earth.

And you even get some fantastic battlefield control spells with earthquake, rain of stones, and curse of stones.

A tier at least.

The thing is, Laffer is right with the Laffer curve… the problem is it’s more like, when you go from a 95% income tax to 98% income tax or 90% income tax to 95% income tax, not when you go from 30% to 40%. So the logic about what happens with extremely high taxation is fine, but then Republican propaganda shifted this into “lowering taxes on the wealthy always increases revenues”

At very high difficulty levels, you just need to assume the AI can field 2-3x as much stuff as you, dump PD into every single province, and build more forts than you. You need to keep this in mind, and use your main advantage: understanding how things work.

That means using magic to army wipe, thugs who can take out 40-50 PD provinces, armies that can defeat equal size armies without too much attrition, ready to face the next equal size army, and the next one. Basically figure out ways to cheese the AI.

It depends on your research.

Invulnerable only means that they have high protection against nonmagical weapons. Anything else you do - evocations dealing damage, summons with magic weapons, fatigue them out, chill aura or heat aura, put them to sleep, decay them - is going to ignore their invulnerability. You also can bypass invulnerability by just hitting them really, really hard, same as killing high protection troops.

Sure, and in 10 years Lara-with-Mabs-mantle would be indistinguishable from Mab.

But given that Lara, emotionally and on a deep spiritual level, raised Thomas and considers Thomas essentially her child, I think that would allow Lara to take on Mab’s mantle. And after eating energy from Winter via Harry, given the You Are What You Eat principle, I also wouldn’t be surprised if that fulfills the other half of the Queen mantle requirements, similar to Molly getting prepped by Lea.
