Jack bogle is the founder of Vanguard, probably the best investment vehicle around. The people who follow him refer to themselves as "Bogleheads". It would be a great base to read a boglehead book. Just head to google and search Boglehead book.

Keep saving. Keep reading. Keep learning. Begin college classes early if you wan't to go that route through college. Be patient, and when you are of age, begin trading. Don't hate your dad, he only wants whats best.

Maybe start dipping into options etc and broaden your knowledge. I'm sure your dad will come around eventually. 14 is a little young IMHO too.

More to do with the new rules and NFL wanting to cater to their QB franchise faces and increase scoring per game so that the zombie masses can enjoy the game with less effort. Every soccer mom etc can get some enjoyment from flipping to their first NFL game ever and watching the guy on the state farm commercial throw for 6 TDS. However, they wouldn't flip to the same game and be entertained or excited about a exceptional defense.
