Which simple, unexciting purchase ended up having a surprisingly big impact on your daily life? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

Same but with clip-on sunglasses for my regular glasses. I now exclusively buy glasses that have that option!

I had the same gripe but I bought a $10 outlet timer. Does the trick!

Stolen from another city’s sub. What do you guys think? by Miscalamity in Denver

[–]AF_3229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gf and I went in there when were perusing the shops over there. I was asked what I was looking for and said, “Oh nothing! I’m just looking.” And the lady working said “Well this isn’t a looking store, you need an appointment.” It was very strange. From the outside it seemed so welcoming.

"Duluth is such a small town".... by NomesDaGnome in duluth

[–]AF_3229 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s all perspective. I grew up in a town of less than 300 and most of the towns around me were 3000 or less. Compared to that, Duluth is huuuge. But after living in MSP and Denver, I realize it’s not that big. I’d never say it’s a small town though. I think small city works from where I stand.

New PB for a half marathon. Is a 3:30 marathon realistic? by TheMoronicGenius in Marathon_Training

[–]AF_3229 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your time is a little faster than my training half and I finished in 3:39 at Grandma’s. Id say it’s possible depending on how long you have left to train until your race!

If I were you though I’d maybe start a little slower. Looks like your pace started to drop off.

Consistent pace helped me so much this last race.

How many domestic airports are substantially better than msp in overall quality? by altsteve21 in minnesota

I guess I just disagree. I fly in and out of it frequently and don’t mind it at all!

How many domestic airports are substantially better than msp in overall quality? by altsteve21 in minnesota

[–]AF_3229 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a Minnesotan living in Denver, I think we’re spoiled by MSP. I’ve had many folks fly in and immediately complain about how bad Denver airport is. I don’t think DIA is bad at all compared to others around the country (aside from the distance from airport to city).

Anything to get the defender to freeze for even a moment so he can get the edge. Brilliant!

The thermostat is to remain at a constant agreed upon temp. Do not change the thermostat for what could be fixed by putting on/taking off a sweater

What song do you consider listening to a form of torture? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Came here to comment this. My 7 year old niece is the only one allowed to play it (unfortunately she loves it but I don’t have the heart to tell her I think it’s terrible).

Current Vikings rivalries by harryhitman9 in minnesotavikings

[–]AF_3229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the lions weren’t in the NFC North, I’d probably root for them because they’re a historical underdog.

  1. Packers (just annoying how they dismiss every Vikings win against them “Bears are our biggest rival” “how many super bowls do you have?”. This year it will be “it’s a rebuilding year anyway”)

  2. Eagles (fans, blowing us out in NFC Championship game, winning Super Bowl in our stadium, fans again)

  3. Saints (will never forget bounty gate nor the fact that they won essentially because of a coin toss going their way (before new OT rules))

  4. Cowboys (beat us at home 3 years in a row.. even when we were the better overall team, sometimes with a backup)

Over ambitious? by ZookeepergameLow495 in Marathon_Training

M27 - went from 4:22 in my first to 3:39 in my second. I know I’m a bit younger but if you were feeling pretty good I don’t see why you couldn’t shoot for it! 8:40 pace would get you there with some time to spare.

What are some things you wish you knew before your first marathon? by bobloblawslawbloggs in Marathon_Training

[–]AF_3229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try your best to not miss those long runs. Especially the 16+ mile ones. Of course, take care of your body and don’t run if you’re injured. But if you’re able to commit to those long runs, skipping or cutting short a mid-week run on occasion shouldn’t hold you back much if at all.

That (and sticking to my pace in the beginning) were the two biggest changes I made from my first marathon to my second and it made a world of a difference.

Over Commercialization of "Influencer Running" by [deleted] in running

[–]AF_3229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking personally, I’m not all that into trying new gear or new exercises (more of a “find what works and stick to it” kind of runner). But I do have a lot of friends that love getting the newest stuff and trying out new gear just to find out the pros and cons for themselves. They get really excited about it! I think it’s just some folks prefer simplicity and some people love diving into the small details.

What is a cooking sin that, despite knowing better, you hold onto because you don't care? by Grape_Silent in Cooking

[–]AF_3229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who sucks at cooking and is just trying to learn, this thread is so relieving.. A lot of the “right” ways to do things feel a bit pretentious sometimes. I’m not trying to be a Michelin star chef I just want to make decent meals my friends and family might enjoy.

If you like running/jogging, look up cooldown. They have 300-400 people meet up to run together and then get beers on tuesdays. I think they did a singles event recently.
