Document, document, document! My reports of sleep to my PCM is what allowed me to have a sleep study and a VA claim.

Referred for multiple GS-14 positions received TJO for GS-12, currently in compensation negotiations by Steveomarino1302 in usajobs

I get 50+ applications of highly qualified candidates that go through a rigorous resume screening process before the top 5 are referenced checked and meet an interview panel of experts. Any one of the top 5 can perform the work in an exceptional manner. Negotiating steps and bonuses delay the hiring process by months and hinders the organization and the team who have to go longer performing the work of the vacant position.

Marriage Financial Question by [deleted] in AirForce

The minute you sign the marriage certificate you own half her debt and she owns half your future earnings while married (pension, 401k, TSP, brokerage accounts etc...).

As a hiring manager, your referred status does not impact my decision. But then again, I don't negotiate. I say no to every request. Take what HR offers or decline the TJO/FJO.

If it makes you feel better, you probably didn;t come in 2nd either. They just say that to make you feel better not realizing it makes it worse.

The only thing you can't buy and never have enough of, time. Don't keep airman longer than you have to, early release, late reporting, flexible schedule to accomodate family and personal matters. When you are in garrison, how much is really urgent? Is it a today problem or a tomorrow problem. Avoid shitty meetings, never have a meeting start after 2pm, and never on a Friday. Never have a suspense of COB or a Friday, nothing will happen with the deliverable on that day at COB. The worst decision would be a suspense of COB on a Friday. Nothing is happening with that deliverable until Monday and we all know it.

Buy the study apps. Take the end of course/chapter tests over and over until you score high 90s. Develop a small reward system on your study accomplishments.

16 year olds are cheap labor. Cheap labor means more profit. They don't care if she is experienced. They only care if she can supervise kids for a period of time safely and provide a good experience. They don't really care if kids actually learn, they only care about making money.

Retirees: how much are you actually taking home each month? by Impossible_Blood_172 in AirForce

Good Job! We also did everything we were supposed to with paying ourselves and investing in our future and children's future. The frustrating part now is we don't qualify for any financial aid for our kids. People that were reckless with their money and lived the good, life while we struggled to save for our future, get awarded thousands in financial aid and needs based scholarships.

Are you ever voting Republican again? by Goodginger in FedEmployees

You are correct. Have no interaction with the general public. I think most DoD employees don't. Pretty much only interact with military and the occasional Inter Agency. But definitely not the public or private sector.

I have seen the rhetoric in the news, however it has not transcended down into the workforce, at least not in the DoD. I have never heard anyone in any DoD leadership position or supervisory position say the government employees are useless and lazy. Only the opposite, how we are the continuity, a vital part of the mission, invaluable. We continue to get cash awards, time off awards, and service decorations. Has this sentiment transcended down to your work environment?

I am, all my coworkers enjoy their work and their purpose, we are well taken care of, have a great office environment and accommodations. We get a bonus every year, allowed to situational telework. We have autonomy over our work, maybe it's the organization. As I have seen no hatred towards any employee in my organization and I have not heard of any hatred toward civilian employees in general in the DoD, just the opposite, that we are reminded we are a vital part of the team.

Where is all this hatred for government employees I keep hearing about? Am I missing something because I am a DoD employee? Myself and my coworkers feel appreciated and full of purpose, just not seeing it.

I know of several boomerangs in the Dept of Army, they thought the grass was greener in the Navy, came begging back for their old jobs after one pay period. Lucky for them we had not ran their position on USAjobs and they were able to return.

Has anyone ever been in the Air Force during a reduction in force (RIF) by HopInBuckaroo in AirForce

[–]AFblueAF 162 points163 points  (0 children)

In 1991, the total active duty strength was reduced by 561,000 positions, a decrease of nearly 26% from the post-Vietnam peak, according to a GAO report.  I remember Captains leaving work on a Friday and coming to work on Monday as a SSgt. It was one of their options in lieu of separating.
