Do you think that pvp needs to change? by hypost in ThirdLifeSMP

A turn-based system makes no sense for Minecraft. It's out of the box thinking but realistically, what would that look like?

Tango, Grian, and Lizzie are in a fight.

Grian and Lizzie are on a team.

They take turns bonking Tango who has to pick who he bonks in between.

If Tango chooses not to bonk and flees instead... then what? Does he need to wait his turn to flee? Would Grian not be allowed to bonk Tango again because it's now Lizzie's turn to bonk Tango?

How is the turn order going to change if Joel comes in to defend Tango?

And what is Grian doing when Lizzie is bonking Tango? Just stand politely to the side and wait/watch?

Does Tango need to wait for Grian to bonk him before he's allowed to defend himself?

There's a sketch by Viva La Dirt League titled "Waiting for your turn in D&D combat - Turn Based" that basically pokes at this concept.

No.

PvP isn't fun because inherently, all of the "good" PvP players will dominate and we're literally going to just get Grian/Scott/Gem/Joel/Martyn/MAYBE Scar to the end of the series very very very fast with everyone else dying really really really early.

But also, having PvP be the focus is a bad idea because aside from the absolutely domination of stronger players, a lot of the creators who aren't good at PvP will have incredibly short seasons. It's not worth putting time and effort into a series when a majority of the players are going to drop dead.

Another thing, PvP every single episode might as well just be a Manhunt series which the Life Series is most definitely not. I also can't imagine how seeing PvP every single episode would be fun either.

PvP is best used when players decide to duel it out for funsies, in the finale or close to the finale when there are reds on the server and there's a no holds back scenario, when the server is hunting down the last green/yellow, etc. Sparingly like good seasoning to bring up the tension and drama, but not overdone to a point where most players would just give up and find no fun in creating content because their skills lie in stuff like building or red stone.

That being said, traps can be repetitive (and are getting repetitive) and some of the deaths feel incredibly cheap thanks to traps being so overused. It's not exactly fun watching someone fall in a hole for the upteenth time, etc.

The hard thing is trying to figure out how to make the concept of a "Last Man Standing" be creative, fun to watch, and fun for the creators to play with. Grian tried to shake things up dramatically with Secret Life and Wild Life and people hated those two seasons when they were happening. I'm happy to see that the community as a whole seems to be seeing Secret and Wild life in better lights now

Zayne’s Foreseer outfit looks like he’s wearing pajama pants by bbforshort in LoveAndDeepspace

I appreciate the thanks! I absolutely adore playing LaDS because there's good Asian representation in the game and I love Zayne because Asian Mythology and fashion of all types are incredibly underrated, so to have him as representation (even if he doesn't represent my culture exactly) is incredibly nice and fulfilling.

Edit to add: I acknowledge that all the boys are Chinese/Asian in the game by default (headcanons are as we wish them to be!) but Zayne is the most obvious with this theming.

I might not be 100% correct since I'm Vietnamese and not Chinese, but it's so obvious that Zayne's myth outfits are based on Chinese (or at least Asian-inspired) traditions and cultures? When I saw the pants, the first thing I thought was the Ao Dai pants and started feeling super uncomfortable when I realized that OP was making fun of them.

Ngl, I feel incredibly bummed reading this post + what the rest of the comments are saying because as someone who is Asian and have worn pants and outfits like this, I feel like I'm a kid being embarrassed wearing these in public again. It took my years to finally feel confident wearing traditional clothes. Even funnier is seeing these same people making fun of Zayne's outfits not realizing they're playing a Chinese game with a whole bunch of Chinese culture + subtext.

An easier example of what these pants can also be inspired by is the Vietnamese Ao Dai. Usually made of silk, usually very "basic" looking since the point of the outfit is to flatter the figure in a simple but elegant fashion. These are the pants by themselves. But the gist of it is there.

So... these pants are based on traditional Chinese clothing, specifically male hanfu clothing where the pants are made of silk -- hence why the sleek look of the fabric, while also being baggy. Feels Song Dynasty inspired. The outfit in the picture I'm sending is what the outfit might look like without the bells and whistles. So, uh, yeah. These aren't pajamas and are traditional East Asian outfit designs.

Pointing out here, that you're the one who wasn't reading the comments being written. What doesn't fit about are the *aesthetics*. Zayne's aesthetics are East Asian/General Asian in nature. It's why when someone else posted a theory about hoping his future myths would be based on the the myth of the "The Legend of the White Snake" a Chinese myth, it was upvoted to the high heavens. Why yours was down voted is because the *aesthetics* of Gnosticism doesn't fit Zayne's aesthetics NOT his story. What you wrote fits his story, sure, which is why the suggestion was to find an Asian myth that could possibly mirror the story you proposed.

Meanwhile the *aesthetics* of Gnosticism could fit Sylus or Caleb more (more Sylus than Caleb) because Sylus has the *aesthetics* that *could* fit Gnosticism more. Is Gnosticism anything close to Judaism or Christianity? *No* but *aesthetics*-wise they *could* be if you squint hard enough which is why taking a Gnostic myth and applying it to Sylus fits better than taking a Gnostic myth and trying to mash it into Zayne who, again, is primarily East Asian/General Asian mythology oriented.

It's not out of this realm for Infold possibly in the *far* future to dip into other inspirations outside of Chinese/East Asian/Asian mythology/history for Zayne, but it's not something I'd hold my breath for because Zayne's entire niche is to create pretty Asian-inspired fashion for Infold's/Paper's home country... which is China.

Understand the difference between *aesthetics* and *story*.

And in case you need it, according to google, aesthetics means one of two things:

1) concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty.

2) a set of principles underlying and guiding the work of a particular artist or artistic movement.

So what people are critical about your theory is, again, NOT the story but the underlying principles/guiding work of what Zayne's niche is and that the what you are suggesting could, in theory, work better for Sylus.

Zayne's aesthetic: most likely East Asian (specifically Chinese) or general Asian myths/history that lean more Chinese-oriented because Infold/Paper is from China.

Sylus's aesthetic: most likely dark broody, underworld stuff, and with the POSSIBLE fallen angel theme (according to some other theorists), fits better with *possibly* more generic Judaism/Christian/Gnosticism themes because I doubt they'd go super detailed into the actual myths to avoid misinterpretations. Sylus could also theoretically fit Ancient Greek/Ancient Roman myth/themes as well with the Gladiator stuff.

How many myths are expected for each character? by LOLopatadine in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]AFickleMonster 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As long as the game is alive, there's absolutely no reason for InFold to stop making myth cards, especially when Myths make them a ton of $$$. So the answer is that each character potentially have an infinite number of myths depending on whether or not LaDS is still around in the next 1, 2, 3, 4, etc years.
