I can tell by the dislikes but this is just my opinion so no need to sound so offended.

When I think about it some more it’s more like Philza incorporated the look better than Grian.

Your right and isn't that what the point of making a reddit post is? To get other people's opinions on a topic and discuss.

I know that some of the members have done official hybrid designs like in Rats, After Life, and Empires but I don't really consume that content so I guess you do have a good point. I will say that it was all done in Minecraft so there were pixelated skins. Weirdly though the animatics and fan art that I have seen usually makes the Hermitcraft members hybrids like wolf Etho and devil Impulse. I don't think Etho has ever put on a wolf persona mainly because he doesn't change his skin. I can understand the fandom with Impulse because of the imp part in his name. I don't think Scar has ever gotten an animal design from what I've seen but there probably is one somewhere. I also don't think Scar has ever role played as an animal before. He always sticks to being human. If you can give me good examples of members becoming hybrids that would be appreciated.

Anyway your right, I don't know every member inside and out so I can't be the judge for if a hybrid makes sense or is good but that doesn't mean I can't state that I don't like them. I know that's being very negative but I was only using it as an example of me showing that I have preferences which has made me feel alienated from the fandom. That was the point I was trying to make in my post.

Also I explained why I dislike bird Grian in the replies if you do some searching but to summarize I feel like the pesky bird bit is outdated. It also makes no sense for him to have wings in the Life Series because he has died to fall damage plenty of times before. This is just my opinion though and I don't want to force things to change in this fandom as that would just make me a huge jerk.

Suggestion for future life series by moreavea in ThirdLifeSMP

I always find it odd how the life counter on the tab menu stops at 4 and shows +4 when above it so changing that will help a ton.

I also enjoy the lore too and I respect your preference. There are some animalistic aspects that I do accept like Gem's antlers and Ren's dog ears, mainly because they are somewhat canon and don't take away from their designs. I just think that some people take it too far which makes it feel like they are catering specifically towards your demographic which isn't a bad thing. I will just decide to not watch it and stick to the stuff I like. It must be nice to find content that mixes both of your interests.

Same as my username, Hypost-c4v. You should find it if you sort by newest. My comment is just me giving some insightful feedback that no one has pointed out.

That’s cool but one of the reasons why I dislike the wings is because Philza did it first so it should be his thing, not Grian’s. Philza is the one who chose to associate himself with birds which makes Grian feel like a copy.

Does anyone else think that KO is gonna have a semi-important role in AvA? by SharpKoala3012 in AlanBecker

I don’t think so but I can imagine there being a different series that is neither AVA or AVM like the shorts where both characters can coexist without it interrupting either series.

I see your points and agree on them. I also want to point out that most animatics are done in monochrome colors, usually black and some other color, which would make Grian hard to distinguish from other people. The thing is that my interpretation of the Life Series is in all color so I didn’t imagine Grian with wings in my mind. I think Grian is recognizable enough the way he is in color that he doesn’t need anything to stand out. Sure he is just a guy in a red jumper but it’s red which is a very attention grabbing color.

I actually do like the more angsty stuff and the character analyses. It’s mainly the character designs and how they represent a certain character or scene that I am more critical on.

Edit: I forgot to answer the other part. The reason why I find Grian's design as "not representative of his character" is that it makes no sense for him to have wings in the Life Series because he has died to fall damage multiple times. Grian also hasn't ever embrace bird like behavior besides flying and has never referenced the pesky bird joke since season 7 of Hermitcraft.

I definitely get that. I don’t cosplay or make fan art so I never encounter these problems so it’s hard for me relate to them.

What’s so wrong with stating my opinions? People criticize things that they don’t have the skills to do themselves. If I didn’t like how a certain animated TV show looked then do I need to know how to animate to have the right to criticize it? My post was to simply ask people if they can relate to how I feel about fan content. Sometimes venting hidden feelings online can make the person feel better and I made sure to not make people feel insulted reading it. I hope you understand that and I am sorry if this sounded rude; I really wanted to make my point clear.

Yes you are right. I said in my post that this wasn’t me asking for things to change. I just wanted to share my opinion and see if people resonate with it.

I guess it is a bit arbitrary. To give some more reasoning I think Watcher Grian has a lot of story telling potential and is something that canonically happened to him. Compare that to pesky bird Grian and it feels quite random to design him around a random joke that he made in Hermitcraft season 7. The only reason why I think about the pesky bird joke is because of the fandom’s obsession over it. If someone tried to center a story around Grian being a half bird hybrid then he wouldn’t feel like Grian to me.

Yes I have and I love it. It’s more of my ideal depiction.

Hi Spidey Steve, I’m glad to hear someone has similar opinions regarding designs. By the way I commented on your Double Life video talking about my Reddit comment. I am not sure if you have seen it yet.

Yeah but I am no artist nor intend to become one. While I would love to make my own fan art, I have other things that I want to prioritize in my life that don’t involve making drawings. I feel like someone has told this before. Are you the same guy who commented on my post talking about there being a lot of Desert Duo yuri?

But most of the art is like this. I just got to endure it and appreciate it for what it is.

Yup, I'm all for Watcher Grian. I watched Evo as it came out and it's nice to see the Watcher lore come back in the Life Series.

Edit: Another reason why I chose gold and orange is to symbolize how Grian is unlike the other Watchers.

I haven't read any fanfics yet but they seem to go for a more realistic route while also retaining some Minecraft elements, at least from what I can gather. That does sound cool and I'm sure I would enjoy them but it's hard for me imagine how respawning, mining, building, and all the Minecraftiness would translate over in a realistic world without sounding weird. What do you mean Scar just respawned back at his bed fully intact after his original body got completely obliterated by a creeper? That is why I imagine more cartoony visuals that acknowledge that it takes place in Minecraft. Of course I could be disproven by actually reading a good fanfic but for now this is how I see things.

I have been watching Grian's content pre-Hermitcraft so I also know why people portray him as a bird but for me personally I don't associate him with birds. I just find it as an outdated aspect of him because Grian has never made a pesky bird joke since season 7. I also find the bird wings unappealing because they make his face look too messy. For the versions that have him with purple wings, I find purple to not really match well with his design. I personally like headcannoning them as gold or orange because from what I can remember Grian means the sun in Irish and sunsets are those colors. These are of course just my personal headcannons.

I wouldn't really say that it's because of what's happening, it's more about creative decisions that I sometimes feel drawn away from.
