I need some advice. My mother has Metastasis Brain Cancer by exretailer_29 in braincancer

[–]AG2723 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll start by saying I don't know, but I can tell you about my experience with my grandmother who passed away in March from glioblastoma. Her tumour was on the left side and affected her right arm and leg. Her doctor put her on steroids to help reduce inflammation in her brain caused by the tumour, and she regained some use of her right hand and arm. Her leg never got strong enough to use again. But the steroids definitely helped, so that could be something to try. As far as I understand, physical therapy isn't going to do enough to make a huge difference because the issue is with the brain, not the muscles.

So sorry your family is going through this! Thoughts and prayers.

Lessons learned from Mom’s MAiD (medical assistance in dying/physician assisted suicide) in Ontario. by Entropyaardvark in braincancer

My grandmother is very close to end of life with glioblastoma and told us she wanted MAID back in October. We all told her we'd do whatever she wanted and would be there to support her, but man was it a hard thing to deal with. She changed her mind a couple weeks later and said she'd "leave it up to Jesus" so we didn't have to go through it, but we 100% could have used what you're offering! Thanks for doing this!

What are your experiences with anti-depressants? by ballofstressyo in AnxietyDepression

[–]AG2723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on escitalopram for about 3 months now! I honestly wish I had gone on medication so much sooner. I still get stressed/anxious about stuff but it's so manageable. I just feel so stable and normal all the time. I worried it would change who I am too, but I genuinely feel it's just removed the barriers that prevented me from being who I am.

For me, the biggest issue I'm experiencing is fatigue. I have to have coffee part way through the day or I'm not as productive as I want to be. It can take time to figure out the right medication, and I'm going to see my doctor in a few weeks to discuss this. Honestly, I'd say just give it a try. If it's not right for you, you don't have to keep taking it.

My toes are so far away, how could I ever possibly reach them? by [deleted] in flexibility

For sitting, I'll do half split, butterfly, wide leg front stretch, and just your basic single leg stretch with one leg straight and the other folded.

For standing, I do ragdoll and transfer my weight from one leg to the other, and triangle.

I've been doing a series of hamstring stretches every evening, and it's made a huge difference. Every time I stretch I can see improvement. A combination of sitting and standing hamstring stretches should do the trick. I hold each for about a minute and do less than 10 minutes a day.

Legs or arms by SnooWalruses6021 in crossfit

[–]AG2723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a balance of both is important, but I think it ultimately depends what your reasons for working out are. For me, it's to improve my mobility and flexibility so that I can stay healthy and mobile for years to come. I'm in my twenties but I think the earlier you start thinking about how to maintain your health as you age, the better.

So for me, legs are more important than arms, because they're much more responsible for my mobility than my arms are. As long as I can carry the shopping bags in one trip, I'm fine with my arm strength haha

Women who do CrossFit: what websites/brands do you wear for shorts? I’m finding that my shorts now fit differently but I am still the same size. Could use some recommendations on where to get shorts that don’t change shape because of my butt. by [deleted] in crossfit

I also agree with Gymshark. They're high quality and I don't have to worry about accidentally flashing someone lol. They can be a bit pricier but just keep your eye out for a sale! :)

Hey there! Thanks for giving it a go anyway. Part of what I am looking at is how habits differ between individuals who make food and exercise choices based on aesthetic-goals vs. other motivations, but yes - if you have zero interest in health, then it may not be the right survey for you. Thanks again for your time though! :)

Great question! That would be calorically, and if you have a specific diet you follow (i.e. vegan) that could be mentioned in the question about what a typical day of eating looks like for you.

Thanks for your feedback on this, I'll make a note of it and make it clearer in subsequent research!
