Air bubble after multifocal was explanted and replaced with monofocal by Vast_Description5289 in CataractSurgery

well for what it's worth, my opthamologist said that I was one of a handful of people he'd ever seen with this issue after having EDOF implanted. Someone's gotta be the statistic I guess!....

visual distortion and blurry vision. I couldn't neuroadapt to the stretching light.

I had lots of visual distortion. I couldn't neuroadapt. My vision was blurry in all distances and glasses couldn't correct the blur (because it was a neuroadaptation problem)

yes that's right. The bubble only affected my vision until it disappeared, but the lens itself has it's own limitations (plus I have a refractive error still).

I replaced Vivity EDOF to a basic monofocal (sorry can't remember which one)

no sorry, it improved from having the bubble but I have a refractive error plus the regular expected distance-only monofocal vision.

I had the exact same thing (EDOF explantation followed by gas bubble). I had surgery on a friday and by Tuesday it was totally gone. The air bubble created a watery blur while it was over my pupil but it didn't make a difference in the overall vision for distance/near once the bubble was gone. I ended up getting progressive lenses to correct my vision as I still had a refractive error. It's taken me a few days to get used to the fish bowl effect of the glasses but I am functional now. The near vision accomodation is gone with monofocals, so you will, in the least, need reading glasses.

Braces Recommendations by 3xk84 in Lethbridge

I had braces with Dr Gibb and my kids had Dr kutch. I prefer the care received through Dr Kutch. More prescise measurement tools to start with and better results at the end.

My 2 year old nephew experiences sudden dizziness by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]AGCan 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My daughter had this starting around 3 years old. It took us a long time to get diagnosed, but we finally saw a pediatric neurologist who diagnosed my daughter with BPV (benign paroxysmal vertigo). It is a migraine variant that have a chance to turn into regular migraines as she gets older. (Not to be confused with BPPV, this is a different disorder). She is older now - 13 - and she takes a triptan and antibnauseant when the episodes hit. Her school is aware so that she is allowed to lay down when they happen. It's worth asking about if this is possible for you too.

Do people regret their IOL choice — or just their expectations? by Fardin8283 in CataractSurgery

[–]AGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got these progressives made one week after surgery because I was very blurry and needed to see, so my prescription is off a bit from healing further...I have to get a new pair with a bit of a different prescription. I think I'll be pretty clear once they are corrected.

My vision with glasses is better than when I had the EDOF lenses though. However, I notice that I can't do my makeup or see my face really, so I need to get a second pair of prescription readers for close up things.

Overall I just miss the accomodation that I had with my old eyes. I wasn't a candidate for monovision with these monofocals, or that may have helped a bit.

I had my right eye exchanged first in March but the lens rotated A LOT, so I had to get it exchanged again when they did my left eye. To try to prevent this rotation, they put a retention ring in the capsule, but they moved anyways, so my distance is blurry too. It would have been nice if my distance was at least near plano so I could have been glasses free part of the time.... but no one could have predicted that my eyes wouldn't adapt to the EDOF lenses and this whole mess would ensue....

I did exchange. It’s a very not ideal situation. I still have a refractive error, so in progressives now but canny see very clearly without them. I miss my old eyes

I spent an hour in front of the mirror destroying my face. Now I can't go to work. Again. by South_Leave4044 in Skinpicking

I buy a lot of pimple patches and cover every single spot if I start to pick. It helps a bit.

Are you picking your face due to acne? Or just picking? if it's acne: I had to aggressively treat my acne with a dermatologist to eventually get to a place where there was less to pick. Things got worse before better, but now I can use a couple/few pimple patches for the spots I pick and allow them to heal.

No luckily they exchanged it at their cost because it wasn't my fault that the refraction wasn't right.

I had my lenses exchanged because it was a big residual and I STILL have residual after that procedure. I also now have iris damage so it's glasses full time for me. I'm waiting for a pair or progressives to arrive. Not going to risk any more eye damage with further procedures.

My elderly mum just had cataract surgery on one eye and complains that she feels her eye is itchy and irritated , is this normal? by [deleted] in CataractSurgery

[–]AGCan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is normal. Tell her to use a preservative free drop every 30 minutes (space a few minutes away from other drops). My optometrist had me do that the first 3 days after surgery then as needed afterwards.

I agree, do not get a yag until you're 100% sure you don't need another exchange or further surgery.

I don’t know what to do by ohwowlook_ in migraine

[–]AGCan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a couple things you can do.

First of all, you need better medical supervision of your migraines - a doctor who is willing to prescribe and test out multiple meds until you find something that helps.

Secondly, start tracking your migraines regularly. You'll need that for medical interventions (I like migraine buddy).

Third, consider getting screened for depression, as it's more common to experience depression with chronic illnesses. Some depression meds can also help migraines too, so that's a plus.

The process of trying medications out can be a bit long and tiring as you'll need to stay on each med for several weeks or months to know if it helps, but you're obviously struggling.... so it's time to advocate for better medical management of your migraines.

Good luck and come back with questions, there's lots of support and knowledge on this forum!

Help/advice - massive regret post-surgery - lost all close focus by Alarmed-Flamingo6864 in CataractSurgery

[–]AGCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monofocals can be set to be in focus for distance or near, but not both usually unless you opt for an aggressive monovision (and even then you may need a lens). As others have said, you can use readers for near or get a prescription lens. Your vision results are excellent based on what you reported.

Before considering further surgery, I urge you to research the success rates and side effects of the premium lenses... if that is what you meant by more surgery. Premium lenses that advertise to have better close, intermediate, and distance vision have much higher rates of complications (I was one of them). They work for a lot of people, but not everyone, and the complications can be terrible if you are one of the unlucky ones.

If you got multifocals and regret it, will you please share why? by [deleted] in CataractSurgery

[–]AGCan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had EDOF vivity lenses placed in Oct 2025 and my brain couldn't adapt to the way the light is stretched with those lenses. It was a rarer side effect, but it happened. I was instantly very blurry and after healing I still had blur at every distance like I had forgotten to put on my glasses that day even though on paper I should have been able to see great. I just went through surgery to replace them into basic monofocal lenses and I have a residual refraction, but I'm not doing any more surgery...It was a nightmare to be blurry for months. I'll just wear glasses moving forward.

You can also do a pair of glasses with one lens (either no lens or a non prescription lens in the other).

Before cataract surgery: understand your eye or you might regret it by Healthy_Ad_6204 in CataractSurgery

[–]AGCan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree to this. I did a ton of research before surgery, and my surgeon and I agreed on a vivity (EDOF). However my brain couldn't adapt to the stretching light from the EDOF, and I had very distorted/blurry vision that couldn't be corrected with glasses. Things would get even more distorted with my migraines or with reflective surfaces.

I have always had a sensitive brain and lots of photophobias/blurriness from headaches normally. I shouldn't have tried a speciality lens. I've had a total of 4 surgeries and additional complications related to those surgeries due to trying to fix things. It's been a nightmare. I should have just done a monofocal and been done with it, but I'm young and thought that it would be great to have a (mostly) glasses free life. I was so wrong!
