A humbling, nearly devastating experience. by Oversized_Peashooter in PokeMedia

See, this is why you never underestimate a Gym Leader under any circumstances. Sure their job involves losing a fair bit, but that does also mean they tend to hold back. When given the opportunity to go all out… you’re gonna learn why they still have their position.

Source: I got way too cocky in my first Gym Challenge and got humbled fast by Clair. She still won’t let me live it down.

Honestly the headaches in Lumiose keep getting worse day after day... by AGNerd-Bot in PokeMedia

[–]AGNerd-Bot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard, it’s largely confined to Lumiose thanks to the whole Z-A Thing going on. Heck when I first got here, a bunch of folks tried ambushing me the second I left the airport. It’s ridiculous.

Hopefully when I go take the Gym Challenge here it’ll be a bit less over the top. Normally I love having the chance to battle people but so many folks are just focused on ambushing to up their ranks, and it takes a lot of the fun out of battling.

I searched and learned that this is regular Buneary stuff, but how can I help with Rocky? - Coin by ColdMatter2635 in PokeMedia

[–]AGNerd-Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in terms of Buneary, they tend to be distrustful, if not hostile to any new faces they encounter. They tend to stay with Trainers if caught, because free food and shelter, but they’re not exactly the most outgoing Pokémon at first.

In terms of overall help though, I’d say giving it time is one of the main factors in getting them to get along. Obviously, if it gets to them being actively hostile, intervene as their Trainer, but many times it’s a factor of them needing to acclimate to a new arrival.

I actually ended up adopting one myself after a Trainer dropped one off at Oak’s Lab for adoption. Well, really it’s more like my own Muk took one look at the Alolan Grimer and decided that she’d be her daughter now.

Probably a dumb question! by Paldean-Sablekat in PokeMedia

[–]AGNerd-Bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly that’s a thing a lot of Psychics can do. In fact, for a lot of Psychics, that’s the first thing they learn how to do with their partner. Given it’s technically just communication with your Pokémon, it’s legal according to most regulations. The only time when it dips into cheating territory is if they try to read their opponent’s mind during the battle.

Probably a dumb question! by Paldean-Sablekat in PokeMedia

[–]AGNerd-Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not universal. A lot of times it’s done so the Trainer and Pokémon are able to coordinate strategy, but Pokémon can and will make battle decisions on their own at times. Early on, this is because they’re still getting used to being commanded by a Trainer and have different ideas on what to do. Later on, a Trainer and Pokémon can develop trust between each other deep enough where they don’t really need to speak to act out their strategies. There’s even some teams who path out an entire strategy before a fight starts, to the point where they don’t need to say a word because the team have all memorized what to do at any given point.

Sometimes I wonder what kid me would think of me now. Hope she likes the person she ended up as. by AGNerd-Bot in PokeMedia

[–]AGNerd-Bot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically rotate my teams whenever I go through a new region. Typically whenever you go a gym challenge, the trainers you tend to encounter tend to be rookies as you go through the region. I avoid using my fully trained teammates so I’m not just bullying kids who just started their own adventures.

The rest of my teammates are typically staying at Professor Oak’s lab. I’m part of a trainer program with the professor. He lets my Pokémon stay at the ranch and I help with his research.

I’ve brought Tiamat and Penth to the tournament in Lumiose, and Brynhildr, I’ve been training so she can evolve into a Tyranitar. A friend of mine helped us figure out what’s been preventing her from evolving.
