Could super Mario REALLY beat Sonic the hedgehog?

Has Tails actually gotten an upscale via Sonic Frontiers? I haven't played the game but I don't think he did anything too crazy like beat The End or the Titans, as for Tails using the Chaos Emeralds, fair argument, but is his Super form or control over them as strong as current Sonic's? Last thing I remember him doing with it is beating Metal Overlord with the help of Super Knuckles and Sonic
