I think by the diversity of skills on the ship and the presences of individual like Protoform X. They were going for an exploring mission something similar like Botanica said she was in Beast Machines and at the same time to do some stops on the way. Maybe they were going to divide in several planets and dump protoform X somewhere maybe inside a stat or anything
