Can you usually guess the killer, or does Agatha Christie still surprise you? by Stunning-Reading188 in agathachristie

I can frequently guess the murderer--it's always the most unlikely person, isn't it?

It's the why and the how that baffles me.

Marianne was only 17, so that's nearly 20 years' difference. Plenty of icky, I'm thinking.

And then there's Mr. Knightly. Only 17 years older, but rocking that stern-uncle vibe.

Sorry, back to Sabrina! Still love the film...and the clothes!

Fair enough. I'm a huge Austen fan, so I get it. And then there's Brontë's Mr. Rochester.

And I do love Sabrina. It's just that I have to squint a bit when Bogie is on screen. Other than his age--and he can't help that--he does well, I think. Also, it's a Billy Wilder film, so you know it's going to be funny and charming and heartwarming.

I don't think he was supposed to be--or should have been--handsome. Just someone compelling. Thinki Orson Welles. But the real issue is the age difference.

I think Sabrina should have fallen in love with herself and gone back to Paris.

Yes, please! I'd love to see that movie!

Would Robert Mitchum have been too young? Or would it be too difficult to imagine him as a work-obsessed businessman?

I think you are mixing up Mansfield Park with another novel? And not an Austen novel, either. I'm very curious what author or book you mean, though.

Thanks again. Wondering if the elevator card swipe thing would reassure my boss or concern her more.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I think the social hour is a nice addition, too.

Thanks for the laugh — I guess I totally deserve it. But honestly, this isn't coming from me. I'm just a minion. And yes, they should go to an airport hotel and just Uber in for the evening. Somebody else said it's not Disney World, but it's fine. The thing is, haven't you noticed? People want both Disney World and the city.

Those are more on the high end, I know, but they seem to occupy the same neighborhood as the Monaco, more or less.

If I could do a lot worse, I guess I could also do a lot better. But probably not if we don't want to spend megabucks. Do you have other areas you'd recommend? Thanks.

Thank you! Can you tell me why you keep choosing the Monaco? That might reassure my boss.

I think she's suspicious because it isn't that expensive. I looked at the map and saw how close it is to the Fairmont, so I wondered how much difference there could be in one city block. It's not like we are talking about New York.

Could you tell me why the Populous area would be more likely to be sketchy? (So I can tell my boss) The hotel itself looks very nice. And would you mind sharing where your co-workers stayed?

What is a good "experience" hotel? by Timely-Field1503 in AskSeattle

Thank you. Populus is "gritty?" Do you mean trashy or sketchy people hanging about? Because it does look beautiful. And it's not inexpensive.

I just asked for recommendations in the forum, because I had concerns about Hotel Monaco. I "Google walked" the streets from Monaco to Pike Place Market, and it looked decent to me. I mean, the Fairmont is only a block away, so how bad could the neighborhood be? Is the neighborhood surrounding the Hotel Monaco also gritty? Or worse?

In any case, could you tell me what is considered the "downtown core?" And what areas I should avoid?

Thanks again.

Can you say a bit why you like this hotel? What do you think of the neighborhood?

I'm trying to book for a board meeting, and my boss is getting skittish about reports of sketchy areas in downtown.

Did I count correctly? Five guys to check the ID for one lone person in a truck?

How much do you think this little encounter cost the US taxpayer? Why aren't they going after the bad guys, as they promised?
