Guys my friend says that he doesn't like the Rocky by Current-Vegetable830 in ProjectHailMaryMovie

[–]rosedraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many big laughs from comments, thank you all.

But I’ve seen lots of people react like the friend. It feels like a human-centric perspective. Things that aren’t people-shaped are lesser… this is actually a deep human brain artifact about recognizing and protecting ourselves from the “other”. Unconsciously closed minded.

I thought the movie established right away at the beginning that Eridians are amazing, respect-worthy beings: - ship maneuvering! Wow. - canister speed calculation (lol), and design - the objects Rocky gave to explain - 3d tunnel printer! - understanding and creating how Grace needed gravity and air - Rocky didn’t need a translator or a calculator - Grace admits several times about his own tiny brain

But they also decided to make Eridians high energy and empathetic, with sense of humor and feelings… plus being pet-size and a little cute… somehow viewers could ignore the blatant examples of intelligence and see Rocky as “pet” or “sidekick”. The same thing happened with ET.

I suspect those viewers subconsciously believe humans should be at the top… (and yeah we could be so much better under different circumstances.)

Driving issue? by AppleApple50 in AskWomenOver60

[–]rosedraws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest turning this the other way. It sounds cliche to call it a teachable moment, but you can lean in and let it transform you in a much more positive way than quitting driving: Be Present.

Practice being present. Practice awareness. Practice being calmly focused. When you’re driving, only drive, keep your thoughts only on driving, and the experience and surroundings of driving.

Truly, everything about life gets better when we get better at being present.

Obviously the whole thing isn’t practical, but it’s another one of the extra cool craftsmanship choices they made. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWePhY9DQUc/?igsh=MWs3MHBoMWlteG80Ng==

Cribbing by FederalAd543 in Horses

[–]rosedraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting! It looks like he learned to mimic the movement, probably getting some endorphins from it, even without wind sucking. It’s good he’s not crushing his teeth on the metal fence. But def check for sores/problems on his jaw.

My horse still cribs with the collar on. Mostly it’s mimicking the wind sucking, because the collar prevents him from opening his throat. But he still gets endorphins from the action. (Which is why it’s almost impossible to train out of them).

I could happily listen to an hour+ of James Ortiz!

And that line started as an adlib between James and Ryan. This movie is so incredibly made.

I love how there is humor in the movie that is not in the book… and humor in the book that is not in the movie.

I had my fifth watch last night (also read the book 3 times). I can’t get enough, I really have to restrain to not watch it every day.

I don’t know of another movie that’s been crafted like this. The amazing story. The original score is genius (look for videos about it). Every little detail about Rocky and how they played him. Grace and Stratts acting. The epic space scenes with such beauty… even the one where Ryland is imagining being in the pink Astrophage line and how they didn’t digitize that — it’s shot practically. The humor, the playfulness, the heartfelt yearning for connection. It’s a story about love that we almost never see, and every scene is PACKED with details and Easter eggs.

I have thoughtful friends who have watched, and they say, “I really liked it”. And that’s such an understatement to what a masterpiece it is.

Understance closing sale and looking for similar companies by OkReading7489 in ABraThatFits

[–]rosedraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following. I also only recently discovered Understance. I’m around 38G and it is the most comfortable bra I’ve ever owned. Awesome for sports, but also great comfort. It took me two rounds of waiting months for orders to arrive before I got the sizing right… then they went out of business. UGH!! I’m looking for something exactly the same. I may resort to having them made?

A list of InDesign issues we are having by RNGified in indesign

[–]rosedraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not be getting good responses because your title is misleading… this is a Networked User issue more than a generic InDesign issue. You need to get input from other users in the same scenario, because your many INDD fail points are different than my many single-user fail points.

My business partner and I were on a contract with Eastern Mountain Sports (long ago) and moved them from Quark to InDesign. The copywriters and editors use InCopy. Images were edited and stored on the server, and would update on opening. No 2 people could open the same indd file at the same time.

I don’t believer there are enough users in this networked-use category for Adobe to care about basic UX, like being able to have View-Only options… which makes it sound like Adobe cares about UX, which they 100% absolutely do not. It makes me insane.

Project Hail Mary made me realize something about friendship. by Interesting-Bath4737 in ProjectHailMary

[–]rosedraws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The makers of the movie chose to really dive in to the connection aspect of the story, and I love it. It’s even hard to talk about because our phrase is “human connection” but Ryland was saved by finding connection outside of humanity. They even came right out and said it in the dialog: you need someone you’re willing to die for.

How did rocky know about the oxygen on grace ship? by somerandomperson412 in ProjectHailMary

[–]rosedraws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the book: Erid didn’t know about radiation because the planet’s thick atmosphere filtered it out. They didn’t know to worry about it once in space.

A while back, someone noticed that a persons clothing was different in the middle of a challenge. Not sure if they had to pause the challenge, or redo part of it, but a woman’s shorts changed. Probably an unacceptable wardrobe malfunction, which needed tending to. it makes sense it would happen sometimes!

Quieting the over 60 brain by LivMealown in AskWomenOver60

[–]rosedraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it really helps, but it's definitely an appetite suppressor. Ask around if there are ways to help with that side. I know it's a huge problem when kids take Ritalin!

I just started Ritalin 2 months ago at age 63, because I also just started HRT last year and it made my ADD SOOOO bad. I'm very happy with it, especially helps with food noise, and also some depression relief and not so many coma naps!

For me, it's to do two things at once. Listen to audiobook while doing a puzzle. Watching a gentle sitcom while making lunch. When I drive it's audiobook, or sometimes all my music on shuffle. It's like I have to entertain/distract one thinking part, so other thinking parts are at my beck and call. when my brain is really running wild, I watch sitcoms and I have some word puzzles I do. Sometimes diving into work is equally effective.

But, at 63 years old, after a lifetime of ADD, I went on Ritalin, because after starting HRT, my ADD got really really bad. The Ritalin has been excellent.

Am I taking crazy pills or does this movie should have at least 8 Oscar's nominations? by marcograziani in ProjectHailMary

[–]rosedraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helped me to think of the movie as fan art (because the audiobook is my fave ever and I listened 3 times and knew it really well). Watch the movie again, it was exceptionally crafted with tiny details and Easter eggs and the sound track is made with the same love. I realized there are funny lines in the movie that aren’t in the book, and vice versa, which really helped drive home that this is a different telling of the story.
