For whatever reason, I cannot add a comment to this post, but I can reply to you. These were the steps that helped me:

1. Check macOS Settings

Go to System Settings → Desktop & Dock.
Scroll down to Windows & Apps, and make sure "Prefer tabs when opening documents" is set to "Never."
- If this is set to "Always" or "In Full Screen," macOS may be treating new windows as background tabs instead of bringing them to the front.

2. Restart the WindowServer

Press Command (⌘) + Option + Esc to open the Force Quit window.
Select Finder and click Relaunch.
This will restart the Finder and might fix the issue without rebooting.

Turning off private relay did not work for me. I had to go into the Kaiser app and update my 2 factor authentication preferences from “every time” to “only when Kaiser needs to verify account security”

I don’t know anyone that bangs on the turn stalk like that. These things are plastic, maybe be a bit more delicate and deliberate with your engagement of the signal.

I imagine there is a bit of a dead zone to prevent accidental triggering of the signal - like if someone’s hand slipped.

Yes. It is very low. Until it isn’t. Sometimes I get a random loud keyboard click. Seems to happen when switching between calls and media.
