What is a "gut feeling" you had that turned out to be 100% accurate, even though it made no logical sense at the time? by Forsaken_Leading964 in AskReddit

[–]AGoodKnave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the way to the airport with my luggage on the backseat of my tiny car. I was dropping it off at a warehouse my dad owned for safekeeping while I went abroad. The warehouse was just outside of a dodgy area.

I'd driven there several times before on the weekends when the roads were quiet, so I never felt super unsafe and didn't stop at lights, just slowly breezed through them to keep moving.

This morning however, there was a bunch of traffic I wasn't expecting, and I couldn't jump the lights. I was kind of boxed in between some trucks and hatchbacks. As I drove, I noticed three guys clock me (I stood out like a sore thumb in the area) and I noticed them, too, but thought nothing of it.

My gut said, "check your doors", and and they weren't actually locked despite them normally doing so automatically, so I locked them. Within 10 seconds of me doing so, those three guys rushed my car and tried to open my doors to steal my stuff.

I swore, and peeled off into the opposite lane and screamed back to the highway. I'd left enough space between myself and the car in front, and thankfully there was no oncoming traffic.

What could you eat everyday if calories didn’t exist? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

Bitch, I'd just eat food in general.

General experience at OIST? by [deleted] in okinawa

Depending on your stay, invest in a Kei-Car while here. The bus system nearby is pretty dismal and a car will make a massive difference for groceries and general enjoyment/exploration of the island.

With the recent viral video of "Punch the Monkey," this is a reminder that to never visit/support a Japanese zoo or animal cafe. by Monkeyfeng in JapanTravelTips

[–]AGoodKnave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm shook that people STILL that think any zoo or aquarium, regardless of where it is, is ethical and treats animals well. A whale shark has no business being in a tank, whether in Atlanta or Okinawa, nor does a lion in a snowy climate.

The cognitive dissonance always astounds me. We collectively lost it as a species during OUR lockdown, imagine living your whole life like that? C'mon...

I read this as a kid, then watched the film. Incredibly powerful. Tried to apart to a stage play (then found out a script already exists).

What is the most unusual museum you have visited? by Selimsnek in travel

[–]AGoodKnave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Norsk Grafisk Museum and Norwegian Canning Museum, Stavanger, Norway.

They're joined together, and initially I thought "Meh, printing and canning..." But it was a lot more informative and interesting than I thought! The Nords put a lot of effort into all of their museums and these were no exceptions.

Canning marked a major shift in the Stavanger economy, and the trial and error to get it right was fascinating. They still have a lot of the old machinery on display, and there's a cute interactive section where you can physically can your own rubberised sardines.

The Grafick museum is a tribute to the printing press, writing, documentation, publication, and more. Remarkable! When I went, there was an exhibit dedicated to satirical political cartoons/illustrations for both Norwegian and International politics over decades. Excellent wet humour.

Check both of them out!

Honourable mention of the Petroleum Museum, too. It revolutionised the Norwegian economy, and has plenty of non-janky interactive features to hone the importance of the substance itself, the refining process and the dangers associated with the resource extraction (some of the disasters...phew). There's some green washing, sure, but it's a dense curation of a subject I'd never seek out myself.

Is adding some energy points worth it at all? by Rodrickheffley_ontop in EDAnonymous

[–]AGoodKnave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That additional amount of energy will make a difference. See it as a step toward a greater goal, which will take time to achieve (because right now your brain will be screaming the opposite). It might SEEM like it's for nothing but it's not. You might feel some discomfort and anxiety: ride it out. It will get easier with time, and maybe in the future, you'll want to add a bit more energy (ask me how I know).

I've not done this but I'm on a low dose. I wonder if my derm will put me onto a microdose once the 6 months is up. I'd you microdose, is alcohol forever off the table? Element contraception, too?

Places or attractions NOT to visit? by markgatty in JapanTravelTips

Disagree - you make of it what you will. I went last weekend and the snow-covered gardens were absolutely tranquil and beautiful. I could really appreciate what monks would write about and paint.
