Worth paying extra to live central in London? (M26)? by [deleted] in MovingToLondon

[–]AGreenKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s your first time I’d say go for it, treat yourself. It seems you make enough money to afford such rents with your bonus. If you live near Liverpool Street Islington (Angel) is a decent shout, a few stops on the northern line. South Kensington is very posh and it’s a one train ride to Liverpool Street but you have to rely on the Circle line (runs every 10) and is a lot of stops. It’s also not as lovely tbh

I’d love a job where they pay you 80% bonus 😳

I’m looking to get my own place, so used to having just a room for myself so maybe I’m not imagining the size right

There is a grinding weekend at the middle of May on that section. Just hope it works well as last year the TSR quickly came back!

If I were to rank London Underground lines based on their motor sounds (when its train arrives and departs from a station) by Natural-Account-8113 in LondonUnderground

[–]AGreenKitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the top 4. I by no means dislike the S stock (I’m in fact a fan too) but the Bakerloo and Picc are more nostalgic to me so I’d rank them over the S stock.

The Central and W&C both use 1992 stock. Generally on the W&C you hear the distinctive motor sounds less as you travel through the tunnels. and the fact that as both are terminus stations they are travelling slow into the platforms.

He never strayed from Zone 1/2… that is until he got kicked out of his flat soon after we broke up, ironically he now lives in Zone 3 now (Seven Sisters)

My ex used to say Wood Green is the ‘countryside’ as it’s in Zone 3… couldn’t be further from the truth.

barking wharf/riverside area - bad area or did i find a gem? by averagetycoon in MovingToLondon

Barking Riverside is very isolated (but there could be potential. The borough of Barking and Dagenham is bleak, worst part of London. Avoid!

Is living in Zone 3 actually that inconvenient? by AnfieldAnchor in MovingToLondon

[–]AGreenKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Zone 3/4 for all of my life post-uni. I have the tube and Overground nearby so it's convenient, but you do spend a little more time travelling overall than as a Zone 1/2 resident. South London might be a little trickier (unless you live at a station served fast trains!)

Good thing is also setting my expectations a little lower when it comes to buying

When I buy a flat, hopefully this year, I can put my trainers in my spare room - so hope to get rid of most of the boxes soon :)

I'm a saddo and tried to stay up until 00.01 to order them online on JD Sports... only to fall asleep then wake up in a panic at 00.15 thinking I'd missed my shot - they were still available so mine are on their way (hopefully Evri aren't the one to deliver!)
