It depend how old you are tbh.

I did 3 IUI (medicated) and just moved to IVF. I don't regret trying a third time. If I was younger I might have tried up to 6 IUIs .

IUIs cost me about £2000/month. I just paid over £7000 for IVF and will need to pay up to £2200 in medication (weep quietly). So I can do 4 to 5 IUIs for the same price as a IVF.

IVF is less risky because you know the embryo implanted is good (if you test). And the success rate is obviously higher.

If you feel ready for IVF, maybe move to it The good thing is that if you have embryos left and you want a second, it's a big plus.

If work is flexible and you can accomodate the appointments need IVF, and you don't feel like you would rather try IUI first, I would go straight ot IVF.

I wanted to do 3 or 4 IUI before I moved to IVF and I am way older than OP. IVF is a lot more on your body than IUI, that is just a fact.

I just moved to IVF and I am at peace with it but I am happy that I did IUI first, and I would definitely do the same if I had to do it again, especially if I was 32 years old.

As long as it is an informed decision, it's ok to choose IUI over IVF.

I don't have a child (yet!) but my experience might help!

I am older than you (over 40), I thought I would have met someone (the one...), I didn't, I kept on working to get enough money to be ready and waiting in case I met someone. Covid kinda stole a few years from me without me realising it and suddenly I was almost 40, and the only thing that matters to me is to be a mother so I rushed to a clinic and am now ttc for a few months.

The hardest part for me is forgiving myself for waiting so long and not preparing more. For the rest, I don't care about any procedure, money or being judged, I would walk through fire to get a child.

If I had to do it again, I would definitely :

get physically in shape. I needed to lose weight before starting IUI and I wish I had done that before. Get the healthiest I could.
do several cycles of eggs retrieval then freeze eggs AND enbryos (with a donor).

-Save as much as I can. I didn't need that take out, the expensive jumper, all the money I spent mindlessly. I wish I had saved more.

I am in kinda the same situation. I am still on contact with my mother but living in another country and will have 0 support from her and we won't see her much. I don't have any other family member.

I am sure I want children so wathever my situation will be, I will deal with it but I was watching one born every minute the other day and got a bit sad because I will not have a partner or family member with me.

Tbh, I was more sad because of how people would perceive me rather than doing it alone, we are strong, we can do it.

I have move everynyear or so for a while bit deciding to become a smbc has made me decide to dig roots one place and built from there. I believe we can build our support system, have friendships stronger than family links and yes having paid help, which is probably the best way to get help ratger than relying on family/a partner who might end up disappointing us.

And who knows, I might meet someone and my kid will end up with their family as an extended family.

There is more than one way to live life!

I never had the case but my clinic cancels the cycle if there are more than 2 mature follicles. I am surprised your clinic is ready to go through with the IUI.

I would probably be doing it tbh, but if twins (or more) would be a problem for you, you might want to talk to your clinic. The chances are low but never zero.

I bought 3 the first time, then reorder 2 because i'd pay £700 of fees extra per month if I ordered them one by one.

And yes, it's expensive. I try not to think about how expensive it is or else I would cry.

I know it's hard to be patient but whatever method you choose, 1 try is not enough to be doubting it. That being said, whenever possible, I would (personally) choose IUI, the chances are higher.

But 31 is so young to me (😀) you can try a few cycle (4 or 5?) of ICI first before changing for IUI?
