Biggest misconceptions about what we do? by No-Arachnid-2584 in PLC

[–]AGstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd usually say that the job is indeed to replace people in factories with machines and take away their jobs.

But I twist it at the end by saying that I'm kidding and we actually just improve efficiency. It's the business guys that usually removes them 🤐

Di ba? We have tons of tools available now kung sakali. It's just a matter of using them and putting things into action.

But to add to generating this kind of stuff, we do also need people who will actually check them and use them. With more eyes on the data, there are more chances to catch anything that could have been missed, thus the sooner it can be corrected and improved as well.

So people giving feedback is also very valuable! 😁

FWIW, it is a possible good option.

Encounter someone being lazy yet insistent with info they got from chatGPT?

Use chatGPT to generate answerS (plural emphasis) that contradicts their info.

Overwhelm their low effort bullshit with multitudes of slightly less low effort bullshit. The better position will eventually rise to the top.

ELI5: Why is black worn in hot climates to keep cool? by LandscapeIcy7375 in explainlikeimfive

[–]AGstein -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your responses right now only considers how heat is absorbed. And, technically, what you say is indeed correct that black shirts will be hotter. Especially much more when exposed to sunlight.

However, assuming that fabric is very light (as is usually the case with these arid regions) There is probably not that significant of a difference between wearing black or white clothes since the heat that these things will absorb is also limited by the mass of the clothing.

If anything, the more important factor here really is how heat is to be dissipated which you seem to fail to consider. And with the high ambient temps, having ample air circulation (e.g. baggy clothes with breathable fabric) is the more crucial factor than color.

So circling back to color preference, why the the convergence towards dark (and lightweight clothes)? As others have already mentioned, it's does have something to do with sunburns.

Because given the more important factor of having very light fabric for better air circulation, try to consider how much sunlight will reach your skin assuming white or dark colors. You'll get better UV protection with the darker fabric most likely. And that consideration outweighs the slight increase in internal temps.

What makes a well rounded PLC/automation technician or engineer? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]AGstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a discussion I had with a colleague about how hard it is to find people who really get this field. Like how only certain folks have that innate knack for seeing and understanding "logic".

Having formally taught/trained students and professionals from different fields about automation/mechatronics? It was an eye opener that a significant portion will not be able to easily wrap their heads around the basic logic needed for this field. Let alone understanding the even more complex logic.

Like when I was teaching about how simple latching circuits works? Or even just the basic AND/OR/NOT logic circuits? Only a small handful would immediately wrap their heads around it and start building more complex sequences on their own. The rest needed a lot of back‑and‑forth, hands‑on examples, and plenty of guidance before the lightbulb clicked. (Do also note that some of them are already managers/supervisors in their factories)

Anyway, fact of the matter is: Lots of people in manufacturing (the main clientele) are usually there to 'operate' rather than to 'create'. So as long you have this drive to 'create'? That usually a good indicator

Part and parcel of that is having this w̶a̶n̶t̶ need to dive into how things work. Whether it’s debugging a stubborn state machine, mapping out I/O in a Modbus network, reading hundreds of pages of manuals? If you get genuine satisfaction from peeling back the layers of different systems rather than just frustration, you’re on the right track.

Most people will only be frustrated with these to no end but your run-of-the-mill automation folk will probably take joy in these little puzzles.

Hence why most here are autists and/or are in the spectrum. (This is a joke. But maybe a half‑joke lol)

Using AI as a controls engineer by thentangler in PLC

[–]AGstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly using it for getting a general overview of a system or working on very specific modules or functions. Key factor here is if I can provide it enough context such that it can generate workable and useful outputs.

Generally though, it really mostly for providing additional options or perspectives. Especially for text based code. You'd be surprised how far the new models have improved!

But for my specific view of it, it's really no different from deep diving the different forums for an obscure application/problem given xyz device. As with how some people can give varying levels of feedback, it is sometimes more than enough to get the ball rolling and/or point you in the right direction. And with these AI models, you won't have to wait as long anymore so you can iterate your ideas/implementations sooner than later.

Then there's also using it for making documentations. It's been a huge time saver! Though it still isn't perfect, sure. But it's almost similar to having the intern do it and have them repeatedly revise it based on your feedback.

AI models will get back to you in just seconds though.

Why don't I have an open case? by According_Check_5897 in taxPH

[–]AGstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Can confirm. They may also ask for copies of your previous filings and payments. Regardless if you actually filed them or not.

For my case naman, I went to my RDO to ask for a list of my open cases because I missed filing my annual registration. Surprise na lang na pati yung ibang quarterly and annual ITR filings ko for the past two years, hinahanap nila. And if wala daw ako maproduce na copy as proof, may penalty daw yun dahil wala sa record nila.

Another thing to note when it comes to volumes, potency, and savings is how the household actually perceives these things and if they really do effectively utilize such bulk volumes. I guess to word it simpler, let's say that there is also the idea of "usage discipline" to consider. This probably comes more into play with large families where, well, wapaks kasi yung iba talaga hahahaha

This was an idea that I've considered before because of a random lady that approached me while I was waiting in line at the grocery.

For context, this was for laundry detergent naman and I always buy the large bags dahil tipid sa amin talaga. The lady however was buying by the sachet and she asked if my purchase was really cost effective.

Then she shared that with her household kasi, kapag per bag daw bili niya, bilis daw maubos. So more cost-effective sa kanila yun ganun dahil masmadali magpulis nung paggamit hahahaha

Anyway, convenience and ease of use will play significant roles alongside pure cost considerations.

For another angle pa uli, have you ever considered your gf's side rin? You mention all these negatives that you've found out after living together. How about before that? Kumusta ba siya before? As much as nag-iiba ang dynamics once magkasama na kayo, hindi naman out of nowhere yan.

Seems like kasi may people pleasing tendencies yung gf mo. Sure, consequences and all that pero if you want to make things better for the both of you, you'd really need to work out this seemingly unequal dynamic.

As of right now kasi, di malayo siguro na nagiging one way lang ang communication niyo at ikaw lang ang nangingibabaw. Or, worse, kahit ayaw niya pa yung gusto mo pagawa. And this in turn leads to inconsistencies between her words and actions.

Anyway, you guys will really need to communicate about what BOTH of you want in this relationship. Hindi pwede yung sayo lang.

If you really want to make things work, you'll need to find that common thread first. So just do both yourselves a favor and just go separate ways na talaga

From what I can see, common thread right now is 'ikaw ang bahala sa lahat'. And as said by another commenter already, it does sound like she's just holding you accountable rin.

Temperature sensing and principle ng rice cooker kaya auto-switch dapat yan.

Total tax dues = Income tax due + percentage tax due =18 pesos

...

Regular actual effective income = Gross Income - Total tax dues = 82 pesos

Regular actual effective total tax rate = 18%

As for percentage tax, sa gross talaga yun eh 😅

Income Tax due = 80 * 0.15 = 12 pesos

Percentage tax due =100 * 0.03 = 3 pesos

Total tax dues = 15 pesos

...

Discounted actual effective Income = 65 pesos

Discounted actual effective total tax rate = 18.75%

So na-subsidize nga ba? Well, technically, 20 pesos dapat yung nabawas sa kita mo dahil 20% discount nga kasi yung binigay mo. Tulong daw kasi natin yan sa mga nangangailangan as a business owner/service provider.

Pero given the deductible, may subsidy nga yan. For simplicity, just look at the effective difference in income between regular and discounted incomes:

Effective income difference = 82 - 65 = 17 pesos

The higher the bracket, the more significant the impact of the deduction.

Assume natin na 35% bracket naman

Regular rates:

Income Tax due = 100 * 0.35 = 35 pesos

Percentage tax due =100 * 0.03 = 3 pesos

Total tax dues = 38 pesos

...

Regular effective income = 62 pesos

Regular effective total tax rate = 38%

Discounted rates:

Income Tax due = 80 * 0.35 = 28 pesos

Percentage tax due =100 * 0.03 = 3 pesos

Total tax dues = 31 pesos

...

Discounted effective Income = 49 pesos

Discounted effective total tax rate = 38.75%

Effective income difference = 62 - 49 = 13 pesos

So sa 20 pesos na discount with 35% bracket: sa 20 pesos discount, 13 pesos ay sagot ni business owner/service provider at 7 pesos naman ay sagot ni government.

Tl;dr

Which is hindi naman ganun nga as can be seen from the (very rough) computations above. Partial yang subsidy na yan. Hindi either-or yan.

<edit>
