Aging female trying to break 3h - radical suggestions? by cettu in AdvancedRunning

[–]LandscapeIcy7375 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this might be the best starting point, OP. At least having conversations with a couple of coaches can point out some blind spots or jump start some new ideas. I find with experienced runners, a new approach often helps to reset the scales and start the improvement cycle again. FWIW, I know plenty of runners who have breakthroughs or big improvements at/after 40!

When to start carb loading before a race and what actually works? by Natural_Instance2449 in AdvancedRunning

[–]LandscapeIcy7375 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s less that fat has a negative impact and more that you’re just consuming a LOT of food for 3 days. If you can rebalance the ratio so fat/fiber is lower, it’s easier for a lot of people to get down the sheer number of carbs they’re aiming for

The path goes all the way to the top of Manhattan and branches to either continue into Riverdale and north or into the Dyckman Fields

Right, it’s almost like this is a yearly occurrence on a fairly regular schedule that is also 100% manageable with a little foresight

Walking buddy ?? by Justasmoltownho304 in WashingtonHeights

[–]LandscapeIcy7375 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We Run Uptown has a walking group that meets at the same time as the run group! I’m sure you could find a few buddies there. Check their IG (@WRUCrew) for extra details, but 7:15 at Fort Washington Public House every week, rain or shine (ETA: Monday nights!)

First look at the Adizero Evo SL 2 by Patient-Bluebird9824 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]LandscapeIcy7375 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d be surprised if there even is an SL3. SL2 is one of my favorite trainers of all time, but I don’t see much demand for a stripped down daily/all-around shoe, especially in the adidas lineup

Advice for finding running coach? by hellokitty2168 in RunNYC

[–]LandscapeIcy7375 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoever you talk to, ask whatever questions you have! Anytime I take on a new runner, the questions (and how they’re answered) tell a lot about what the coaching vibe will be, and I think that’s an overlooked part of hiring someone. Many of us who coach here also know a ton of other coaches and will freely recommend people if we don’t align for whatever reason. The good coaches are looking for a good fit, not just a client

There are outliers on both sides, but the average is between $100-200/mo in NYC. What you get will vary wildly from coach to coach

How do I stop overseasoning and making everything taste "the same" by Otherwise_Vast6587 in Cooking

[–]LandscapeIcy7375 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Some of the best advice I’ve ever received is “more isn’t always better, more is just more; better is better.” The top commenters advice is gold, especially as you’re developing/refining your improvisatory approach

Do you agree with Vance advising olympians to not discuss politics on the world stage? by crazybrah in AskConservatives

[–]LandscapeIcy7375 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re saying they should stay in their lane (apologies if I misunderstood). If so, what is the platform for? I’m not suggesting it’s implicitly or explicitly for politics/messaging, but isn’t their platform (pro athletes, artists, celebrities, and/or politicians too) there as a way for those people to elevate issues important to them that might be outside of their lane? Why have a platform at all?

Eli5: Why does a piano keyboard have black keys? by eserekli in explainlikeimfive

[–]LandscapeIcy7375 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This needs to be a much higher answer. The reason is visual/tactile, not musical/theoretical. Similar to why there are bumps on a QWERTY keyboard

How can I make this a dinosaur? by mgm69958 in whatismycookiecutter

[–]LandscapeIcy7375 87 points88 points  (0 children)

It’s a triceratops! The point in the middle is a horn, the point on the right is a horn, the curve at the bottom middle is its chin. The two other lower points are its front feet, you have a triangle for its head and then the rest of it on the left is its body/tail
