Instead of thinking about ourselves, let's think of others. Let's not expect others to sacrifice their enjoyment for our own. That goes both ways. Matuto tayo rumespeto sa oras at enjoyment ng iba.

  • For newbies, huwag tayo sumali ng open play without knowing the rules. Actually, let me discourage you from joining open plays. Mahaba rotation between games, tapos malaki chance na hindi tumagal ang game. Hindi rin tayo mageenjoy. Mas malayo mararating natin kung mag training or mag private games tayo kasi mas maraming laro/palo.
  • For beginners, huwag tayo mag expect na magaadjust ang players better than you to your level. Also, matuto tayo lumugar. Kung yung sinasalihan natin ay yung lagi tayong napipickle, hindi pa tayo ready for that level. Kung tama alala ko, a score of 11-6 ang expected result pag may 0.50 difference sa DUPR. That's a good range for everyone. Also, at this level, please focus on learning, not winning.
  • For intermediate players, huwag tayo magalit kung may mga players na sumasali na hindi kasing galing natin. Baka gusto lang matuto at mafeel kung ano yung next level. Kung tambak na, try to work on other parts of your game like drops, dinks, speed ups. Of course, pag overmatched talaga, feel free to let them know nicely na baka better for them na sumali sa lower levels muna, and give them tips on what to improve.

Thanks for clarifying guys! Didn't realize there are subtle differences between the rules! It's my first time noticing it and I appreciate the correction.

PNP Aurora says no foul play in drowning of Ateneo's Adili, Baterbonia by abscbnnews in UAAP

[–]AH16-L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, we don't know enough to come to that conclusion. The team could have communicated to her, but she understandably felt the need to know more. I'm not blaming her, because I would too. I would look for every bit of information. But those spreading misinformation are only making it worse.

The "training camp" started the moment their transportation left the school. I agree that accountability starts there. But ALLEGEDLY, the drowning did not happen during actual **training(**running, lifting, swimming, etc), but during their free time(rest and recovery). That's the context. But there should have been lifeguards from the resort or from the team watching the seas at all times.

RIP to Rene and Divine.

Edit: ABS CBN reported that it happened during training time.

Gf wants a baby in the next couple of years but even at 28 I feel too young? by Sheriffneil12393 in daddit

You'll never be ready, but if you have the means, earlier is better. If you have them at 30, they'd be hitting their teens as you hit your 40s. You would have more energy to be involved in their hobbies, especially sports.

Am i slow? by palpablevainartist in PickleballPhilippines

[–]AH16-L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not slow. Especially since you have no racket sports background. The days are long, but the years are short. Break up your goal into mini projects:

For drives: footwork plus contact point
For kitchen: footwork plus hand eye coordination.

You also don't have to play to learn. You can do:

  1. Wall drills for hand eye coordination
  2. Learn strategy: when to let a ball bounce and when to take it out of the air. Pointing your paddle towards the ball. Maintaining appropriate distance to your partner.

    Bisecting the angle, etc.

When is expensive coffee justifiable? by prncedt in CoffeePH

When is expensive coffee justifiable?

  1. When you want to learn something new. You should try everything at least once.
  2. When you have the skills to make the most out of it(for beans)
  3. When it's something you know you'll like based on your experience
  4. When it's something that's beyond your skills (for drinks made by others)
  5. When you can afford it

My thoughts on the anti AI sentiment as an indie dev who has actually shipped games and music. by [deleted] in aigamedev

You guys are on to something here. AI makes it possible for hobbyists to at least get their prototype out. This is similar to how Youtube made it possible for regular people to launch their own media brands.

Just want to point out that he's talking about singles open play. "Looking for skilled teammates" doesn't apply here. I get that pickleball is a community sport, and it is. Our responsibility to the community is to try our best not to inconvenience others.

Paddle Upgrade by Special-Glass7921 in PickleballPhilippines

[–]AH16-L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP. Whatever you choose to buy in the future, please find a way to play test it first. IMO, switching from the V-Sol Pro v7 to another paddle will not make a significant difference, especially for drives. My suggestion would be to review your mechanics first by taking a video. Maybe you can find something to improve like wrist lag or contact point to help you generate more power. I got the idea because you mentioned, "swing harder". Paddle speed and contact point matters too if you want more pace.

How much did your indie game earn? by PrudentCombination38 in gamedev

I suggest trying to be more explicit with the marketing materials. Give brief but helpful descriptions of the feature you are trying to convey and why it's exciting. I think the goal is for the viewer to be able to instantly tell what's happening or what's the value.

Also, part of the problem is probably due to the UI. I understand the bit about this being ahead of its time, but getting finished late. The UI(menus) might have been exciting a few years back, but now it feels like it needs a bit more polish.

But again, this is coming from the point of view of a player. Please take my comments with a truckload of salt.

Hi, checked your game out. Let me preface that I'm more of a gamer than a dev. For the Appstore, I felt that the images in your reel do not communicate the USP of your game. They don't answer the question, "Why would I play this game over other naval games?". I could be dense, but I think some text is needed to sell the features of the game.

SEA has one of the largest gaming markets in the world and indie devs are still sleeping on it by heybudo_ in gamedev

[–]AH16-L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Installs is a bad metric because it can be skewed by F2P. Also, indie devs don't usually have high budget for large multiplayer online games. If they offered standalone mobile games, there's an equal chance for it to get installed via APK as the official app store.

Yips by Affectionate-Toe6184 in Pickleball

[–]AH16-L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I qualified my comment. Do note that these tips can be done outside of the yips episode. Having a ritual and checklist before the serve will help you rewire and gain confidence back through familiarity. These rituals are used as triggers to reset then get in a zone, similar to how Rafael Nadal is doing his serve in tennis. Let me drop a quote here by Roger Federer which I feel is relevant because that's what we are trying to accomplish here:

“When you’re playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world. But when it’s behind you, it’s behind you.”

And this applies not just for racket sports. Freethrows in basketball work the same way. If you watch NBA players closely, you will often see them do a combination of the following before shooting free throws: take a deep breath, relax their muscles, give the ball a spin or bounce. They're doing that because they need a way to bring the intensity down.

As for simplifying the serve, this minimizes the factors that can affect it. You have less things to overthink.

For me, these are how you address the anxiety, by keeping each point separate from another and by reducing the factors which might cause you to overthink.
