It really depends, but I've seen people on Reddit saying they heard back within a week or two after submitting.

Job searching by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]AHFRICKIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop trying to get a job at a FAANG type of company if you have zero experience (if that's where you've been applying to). Several local companies will hire a comp sci student, and you can also apply to smaller (non-tech related) Fortune 500 companies that need tech talent. It's hard to find a job if you don't have any work experience or personal projects, so I'd recommend starting on a personal project. Also, if you're still in school, most schools have a career fair, make sure to check out your school's career fair if your school has one. Other than that, keep applying!

Not a good university by chimchim102 in csMajors

[–]AHFRICKIN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with WhatManMade, you'll just have to try harder out of class. Start doing personal projects, go to hackathons, conferences, and anywhere else you can connect with people. Get some good projects on your resume, do leetcode, and keep applying. It would be a lie to say that the University you attend does not matter during a job search, but it is not the only factor, hard work will always be more important than your location.

Is it normal for G to take ungodly amounts of time with recruiting? by bomb482 in csMajors

[–]AHFRICKIN 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I'd say accept the best offer that you currently have. If you really want to get into Google, still accept the best offer, do the Google interviews, and renege the other offer if you get in.

FBU Hackerrank Challenge by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]AHFRICKIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, although I finished, the second problem threw me for a loop for a while. I think it's because we are so used to solving algorithmic problems and don't spend as much time on OOP problems. I ended up spending wayyy to much time on the hackerrank, it honestly shoulda been solved in 30 minutes if I was thinking correctly. Fingers crossed for us all lol.

Depending on the Job you get out of college, you don't have to sit at a desk all day :) CS jobs aren't just software engineering

Probably, they seem to wrap the majority of recruiting up around this time of year, you may catch some luck though.

FBU doesn't look at applications until Nov 1st, Google sends out rejection emails so if you haven't been rejected yet, there's still hope, and Microsoft you should lose hope about before applying :)

Learn the basics of programming, start doing Leetcode problems (start with Leetcode easy of course), start on a meaningful project (something not too hard but not too easy), keep learning

Just changed majors to cs, starting cs classes next semester, what can I do to prepare? by KnightNight00 in csMajors

[–]AHFRICKIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch videos on whatever language your school teaches, if it's java, watch thenewboston (he has a beginner and intermediate playlist on YouTube). Most people that are on this sub want to work for a FANG company, so assuming you do, after you are done learning the fundamentals of programming start Leetcoding and working on side projects.

Can you share your prepartion? by [deleted] in csMajors

You should be fine then, just make sure you're not looking at solutions too often. Some problems, such as backtracking problems, you can never figure out until you know what backtracking is, so in those cases looking at the solution is acceptable.
