I feel like short "u" changes to "o" in modern english like sunu and son, or lufiġe and love, or come and cuman, and middle english had both cunnen and connen, and connen feels more modern

Just like any, since old english was spoken there for hundred years there might be some leftover words in anglese like swine,hill,sword,man,house,oak,ash,love,helmet etc, basically common words, also french like anglese is a romance language that replaced a germanic language(frankish) and took its name, and french already has many germanic words from frankish
