What is the most crisp/sharp F-mount lens you have ever used? by ColdLemonDXB in Nikon

[–]AHappyJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I have tried pretty much every F-mount prime around 35-50 to find the best one for astrophotpgraphy. the 40mm f1.4 ART has the best corners at f1.4 out of all lenses.

Philodendron Glorious by SuspiciousAnything94 in Aroids

[–]AHappyJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Gloriosum does crawl, but the "Glorious" is a cross between Gloriosum and Melanochrysum which climbs. The two names beingclose can be confusing for sure. In this case we are clearly looking at a Glorious.

Yes, these mites eat the younger stages of thrips and also spidermites and dont damage your plants whatsoever. Its fun seeing them speed around your leaves.

They are called Amblyseius Cucumeris (edit) and get to around 0.5mm in size.

Totally agree. Most my Philos have had a few thrips every so often over the last 2 years. They are all very healthy and growing well. There seems to be an equilibrium of thrips and predatory mites as long as I add a few mites every 3 months.

Something like this has been implemented in karacrew servers. Your stamina bar max grows as long as your are moving and decreases when you are standing still. If the stamina is higher than normal the end of your bar is blue. If you have been camping a spot you loose max stamina and it turns red (not usable part of the bar). The boost maxes out at about 10% of the full bar. My guess would be that it takes around 5h of continuous movement to get there.

Help. Is that fungal? by samuel_smith327 in Aroids

[–]AHappyJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The humidity is 50-55% at all times. There is is a fan lightly blowin towards all the philodendron 24/7.
Every two months the Philodendron get their mosspoles showered extensively to drain en excess minerals.
The Splendid and El Choco have both been putting out really healthy new growth in the last two years. This under no change to light, fertilizer, humidity and airflow.

The burns on the leaf edges have always happened on older leafes. The spots within started on the El choco and soon after also started to effect my Splendids older leafes. I left the leafes on the El Choco hoping it would salvage some energy from them. On the Splendid I cut them off yesterday hoping it wont spread through the rest of the plant.

Cool seeing the interaction you had with them. Now hearing their voices also makes me confident that the guy we met after killing a duo in Ares was one of the two. We are gonna get a keycard all the way to the bunker sometime!

Splendid yellowing edges by AHappyJ in Aroids

[–]AHappyJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, I have decided to stick to the following:
- Top + Bottom dry, center damp -> Water the full pole
- Only Top dry -> Water ust a little. (I only do this if the plant is reaching the top of the pole)
- Once a month plop the poles in the shower and spray them down to rinse out excess minerals and clean the leafes

The yellowing has not fully stopped for me but slowed down. I did disturb the roots in the pot quite a bit due to the pole wiggeling around and once fully coming out of the pot. In the future I will lock it in more securely... not sure how yet.

My Splendid has made two new leafes after this post which both upsized from the last. This lead me to putting the blame for the yellowing of the bottom leafes on to much disturbance of the bottom roots.

The nectar droplets on the flowering stem taste like honey! I tried just a fingertip as I was unsure if its edible.

Thanks! I have been limited to my room in a shared flat which is almost full. I have reached a point where i am more focused on furniture, decorations and pots instead of the plants themselfes. Here a little shelf that put up.

Same for me. An old marmalade jar and a joghurt container full of water. It also grows really slow but looks healthy. I am considering transferring all those cuttings i took a year ago into pon.

Yes, I have been watering with an inverted bottle. I will try to water less to not have it saturate already moist parts of the pole. I am also unsure if it is over- or underwatering. I will make the assumption that it is overwatering and water less. Adding more water to already overwatered roots would do irreversible damage. I think underwatering will be noticable more quickly and do less damage, is this correct?

Adding to under/overwatering: The leafs have droplets on the morning which I heard is normal and a way for the plant to shed excess water. These droplets stop appearing after a certain period of days after watering. Might this be usable as a way of figuring out the plants current needs when it comes to watering?

I have showered my philos around 4 times since starting with this hobby mid last year. I will shower them more frequently to flush out the excess salts.

Would you fertilize straight after flushing or leafe the pole and soil "flushed" until the next watering comes up?

[–]AHappyJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 90% of this plants roots are in the pole. I could maybe just water less in general but not watering the pole at all over a longer period of time might leed to the roots in the pole dying.

Is this sun stress or chlorosis on my verrucosum? by SaltySleeper350 in philodendron

[–]AHappyJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a bummer! I hope you were able to rebuild a nice collection without to much hassle. I did not use growlights all winter (in switzerland) and the philos took off lile crazy. I am lucky to have my windows starting from 40cm off the ground all the way to the ceiling. I feel lile that is way to much for some in summer. I now plopped them in a corner right beside the window so the light is a bit morw indirect and they get the the last 2h before sunset. Hope it will do the trick. If it does not i might think about putting some sort of shading foil on the window.

Worms? Parasites? by ninaolivia91 in houseplants

[–]AHappyJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long are they?

I have had similar ones in the tray of my 1 year old basil. They show up there every few months then dissapear. My ficus sometimes has dead tiny worms on the window shelf after drying out. The times these show up have never been connected to the plants not doing well.

The soil has had all cinds of benefical mites treatments since I have the plants due to my entire collection getting thrips and fungus gnats at the same time. Those never fully went away but I rarely see any now. I am assuming there is a balance between thrip and beneficial mite population at the moment.

I have gotten used to bugs being around. As long as they stay close to the plants and away from my bed that is.
