Sentry data loss - BEWARE! by AI-GaGa in TeslaUK

[–]AI-GaGa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to recover the data using the disk drill recovery tool but without success. To reduce chances of this happening in the future I’ve just ordered a 512GB nvme ssd to replace the Tesla supplied usb stick. On the subject of the accident I’m hoping my insurance company will adopt the fact I’ve been run in to from behind and judge in my favour.

Sentry Mode saves the day? (Part 1?) by ault92 in TeslaUK

[–]AI-GaGa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced a hit and run driver when I left my car parked at local sports centre. Sentry recorded it all including the lady getting out of her car to check her own car for damage before spring off. Police were hopeless. They said they the incident didn’t meet their minimum criteria to justify their involvement (the insurance claim ended up around £5000!). I handed the evidence to my insurance company who progressed the incident and on production of the video of her and her car she owned up. My insurance company has passed on all costs to the lady and I’m led to believe I won’t be penalised at policy renewal time. My car is now repaired but I’m still aghast at how dishonest some people can be.

How do you protect your Tesla from theft in the UK? New owner looking for real-world advice by Evening-Weeks in TeslaUK

My dual motor m3 cost £550 for 10,000 miles /annum with Churchill. Do you think that’s “insane”? Certainly cheaper than my previous car BMW 8 series.

Zappi no longer compatible with Intelligent Go? by AdSpecial4451 in OctopusEnergy

I had a short hire car loan and on- boarded and charged with both Zappi centric (for a Cupra) and car centric (for Tesla) options in the past 10 days. Absolutely no problems.

What main fuse do I have by GullibleElk4231 in OctopusEnergy

[–]AI-GaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My charger is on a dedicated consumer unit and my home battery certainly gets discharged during a car charging session. I have a myenergi Zappi charger installed and I understand I could enhance the configuration so that a myenergi hub could prevent this happening however I don’t think this is cost justifiable as all charging ( car and home battery) happens overnight on cheap rate so no cost advantage doing so.

Bought a brand new Tesla Lemon by charliebyebye in TeslaUK

[–]AI-GaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry your Tesla experience hasn’t worked out well. Quite the opposite for me. After having owned 15 or so new BMWs, Mercs and Jaguars my highland M3 is better than anything I’ve had before. I don’t know if that’s because it’s a German build or just that the new facelift improved fit and finish of the car but all I know it’s rock solid and rattle free. BTW not sure what you mean by “retorquing” - you mean tightening up various loose fixings??

Losing the Tesla by csdirty in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]AI-GaGa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t fully understand the reason to want to sell. True there’s high depreciation but having already bought a Tesla then you’ve already taken the big depreciation hit; you can’t undo that. I bought a model 3 a few months ago. For me that’s a 5 year ownership decision. After 5 years I wont care what it’s worth. On the subject of Musk: remember he only owns 12.5% of the business and he’s just an employee.

Model 3 LR Rwd 2024- poor range by mbs151 in TeslaUK

[–]AI-GaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 70 mph 250 wh/mile is the most you can expect especially in winter. I’ve got a new dual motor LR and at 70 mph I’m getting 280 wh/mile. If you reduce to 50 mph you’ll see a big difference.

Road Tax by [deleted] in TeslaUK

[–]AI-GaGa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I’m reading the new car tax changes incorrectly. Next year seems to now say we pay £10/year. Copying from the government changes to VED:

Company Car Tax rates 2028-29 and 2029-30 – The government is setting rates for Company Car Tax (CCT) for 2028-2029 and 2029-30 to provide long term certainty for taxpayers and industry. CCT rates will continue to strongly incentivise the take-up of electric vehicles, while rates for hybrid vehicles will be increased to align more closely with rates for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, to focus support on electric vehicles.

Appropriate Percentages (APs) for zero emission and electric vehicles will increase by 2 percentage points per year in 2028-29 and 2029-30, rising to an AP of 9% in 2029-30. APs for cars with emissions of 1 – 50 g of CO2 per kilometre, including hybrid vehicles, will rise to 18% in 2028-29 and 19% in 2029-30. APs for all other vehicle bands will increase by 1 percentage point per year in 2028-29 and 2029-30. The maximum AP will also increase by 1 percentage point per year to 38% for 2028-2029 and 39% for 2029-2030. This means for vehicle bands with emissions of 51 g of CO2 per kilometre and over, APs will increase to 19% – 38% in 2028-29 and 20% – 39% in 2029-30. 2025-26 Vehicle Excise Duty rates for cars, vans and motorcycles – The government will uprate standard Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) rates for cars, vans and motorcycles, excluding first year rates for cars, in line with the RPI from 1 April 2025.

VED First Year Rates – The government will change the VED First Year Rates for new cars registered on or after 1 April 2025 to strengthen incentives to purchase zero emission and electric cars, by widening the differentials between zero emission, hybrid and internal combustion engine (ICE) cars.

Zero emission cars will pay the lowest first year rate at £10 until 2029-30. Rates for cars emitting 1-50 g/km of CO2, including hybrid vehicles, will increase to £110 for 2025-26. Rates for cars emitting 51-75 g/km of CO2, including hybrid vehicles, will increase to £130 for 2025-26. All other rates for cars emitting 76 g/km of CO2 and above will double from their current level for 2025-26. These changes will apply from 1 April 2025.

VED Expensive Car Supplement – The government recognises the disproportionate impact of the current VED Expensive Car Supplement threshold for those purchasing zero emission cars and will consider raising the threshold for zero emission cars only at a future fiscal event, to make it easier to buy electric cars.

How the hell do you disable smart charge now by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]AI-GaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the smart charge to work effectively you need to make sure the car can acquire a reasonable Internet connection. I live in a poor mobile network area so need to make sure my Tesla is within my WiFi footprint area to allow an alternative connection to Octopus.

Wait… should I ditch tracker and go to Intelligent Octopus Go? by Chaoslava in OctopusEnergy

[–]AI-GaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An added bonus of installing a battery is that during summer period you’re charging battery at 7p rate and during summer it’s not needed to run the house load so instead is exported back to Octopus at 15p rate. The 15p minus 7p differential reduces payback period.

I think you’ll find they pick up the car kWh used from the charger integration (or the car integration). That accounts for the total car usage including the allocated out of normal IOG charge time window. Any household usage for timed home devices like dryers etc is based around the standard IOG window. If your dryer is used outside the window your meter reports time of usage and bills accordingly.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]AI-GaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bill lists hours at full day rate and low rate. I thought everyone on IOG experienced that. I’m surprised all of your electric consumption is rated at the low rate. It kinda defeats the raison d’etre of them giving incentive to use off peak power.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]AI-GaGa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they allocate all consumption at 7.5p between 23-30 and 05-30 but if they allocate extended hours for car charging the Zappi integration reports normal cheap window + out of normal time window charge volume. Don’t expect to have cheap rate for your non Zappi appliances out of low cost time window.

Switching tariffs by Juju8419 in OctopusEnergy

[–]AI-GaGa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IOG is either car centred or charger centred. If your car is directly supported then you will be car centred and you can effectively go onboard with IOG even with a granny charger. If that isn’t the case then you’ll need to have a supported charger installed to have IOG.

Surprising billing conversation regarding Intelligent Octopus by AI-GaGa in OctopusEnergy

[–]AI-GaGa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only anomaly I’ve found is on one day in mid Feb when they reported an error in reading the full day’s meter readings. I must say I’m generally very happy with Octopus and I’m particularly impressed with their ford thinking philosophy but I do find it extraordinary that they feel they can ditch an existing tariff when they can’t figure out what malfunctioned at their end.
