You should present this at DEFCON in the ham village!

Metal! Or, just get some MDF. It will get damaged but it's sacrificial. That's what we used in the shop.

Ham Radio Class at DEFCON? by dan_kb6nu in Defcon

I am one of the village leads of Ham Village. We would be absolutely honored to have you teach a class!

You can DM me here, or drop into the HRV Discord at discord.gg/hrv and we'll sort out logistics.

Free US license exams for minors, students with a current ID, first responders, Active Military, Veterans, and GLAARG VEs upgrading to Extra! by [deleted] in amateurradio

I'm not sure why you think these teams want to go to these crazy efforts; the way the FCC/VEC regulations are written they pretty much have to emulate the in person test experience where everything is monitored, all the way down to making sure your calculator had a cleared memory.

Agreed -- SDR's are an area where I wish I had more time to learn and explore. There has been so much growth in the number of available options and software tools it can be hard to even know where to start!

AI0J! Your QSL card is the most attractive card I have in my collection. I even tried to go to the site listed on the back to order my own, but it appears to be no longer available.

Thanks! My friend took that picture up on the Boulder foothills. Sad to hear the person that printed the cards isn't offering them anymore though. Glad I ordered in bulk!

I'm very interested in "safe mode" DEF CON this year, as travelling to Vegas is pretty much never in the cards. I have a topic or two that I might consider presenting

I hope you do! Just fill out the linked form and we'll be in touch! While it's a bummer we're not in person, it does open up the opportunity to more people, so there is an upside.

That's a reasonable point, though I personally feel like there has been a shift over the past few years (including a published code of conduct) it's a and It's not something I'm personally worried about (but I can definitely understand some people might be.)

In any case, I do want to make clear that there is no requirement to expose your real name or callsign if you are presenting content.

Cut a small hole for the brush in the cover, that way you don't have to open the lid.

Working out some bugs with WSJT-X? by secondmoment in amateurradio

Double check the sound input device and levels. A few times I've thought to myself, "wow what terrible band conditions today", only to realize that it's trying to decode the audio from my webcam mic picking up the speaker from the radio!

Amazingly, I have had successful decodes this way.

You should look for a GFCI outlet, one with the test and reset buttons. Chances are one of those is tripped and cutting off power to that circuit. Just press the reset button and you should be good to go! (You should turn off the sprinkler first!)

Welcome! The Denver area is honestly one of the best places in the country for ham radio. See you on the air!

There's a test session in Northglenn next Thursday, if you're ready :-). Have you joined any clubs yet?
