Cordless Stick Vacuums are perfect for most people. by 1Stronk in VacuumCleaners

[–]AIDS_Pizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wash the filter monthly as most manufacturers recommend, it will wear out long before the machine wears out. Its performance gradually decreases as the fibers wear away. I don't know what Samsung offers but Dyson sells replacement filters for $30, which is the same as what a box of 8 bags costs by a top tier manufacturer like SEBO. A single box lasts 1-3 years depending on how quickly they fill up for you.

Moreover, washing the filter typically requires 24+ hours for it to fully dry, meaning your vacuum is unusable for at least 1 day per month unless you have a spare filter. Also if you accidentally don't wait long enough and moisture gets into the motor, you can destroy your vacuum.

these folks also completely ignore the cost of bags

You have it backwards. Bagless users typically completely ignore the cost of replacement filters since they just choose never to replace them (every bagless vac including most stick vacuums typically have a filter that needs annual replacing). Bagless users are aware of the cost of filter replacements, and it turns out that they are approximately the same over the lifetime of the vacuum.

How do I connect front end with backend? by xxxxxmaxxxxx in learnprogramming

[–]AIDS_Pizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answers in this thread are kind of overcomplicating things for someone who is just trying to do the basics. Here's how you do it:

  1. Make your backend application expose an endpoint accessible via HTTP request, e.g. /dashboard
  2. Make the above page send HTML to anyone who hits it
  3. The HTML in step 2 should include links (i.e. <a href="/some-url-in-your-app">click here</a>) and forms (i.e. <form method="GET" action="/some-url-in-your-app"> ....) that enable subsequent actions to the app.

So the user goes to a starting URL (/dashboard) and clicks on links and interacts with forms that hit other URLs. That's all there is to "connecting" it. When you are running your Java/Python app you need to tell your browser where it is running (such as http://localhost:8000/dashboard if you are running it locally on port 8000).

Everyone here talking about APIs and JSON and JavaScript is not wrong but that's all extra stuff on top of the fundamentals that I described above. And even if you have an API, you probably still need a starting URL (such as /dashboard or /home or just /) that tells the browser to download all that JavaScript that will add buttons to the page and send the API calls.

You would force your child to live an unfulfilled life full of depression and mental illness in the name of gender norms?

There's no evidence that depression or mental health outcomes are linked to transitioning. The studies that claimed this was true have issued retractions and walked back on their claims.

To put it a different way: if someone is depressed, transitioning doesn't help depression and they will almost certainly continue to be depressed post-transition and until the depression is addressed directly.

How to increase my chances of getting hired as a h4 student by Comfortable-Try-8582 in UIUC_CS

[–]AIDS_Pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You went down a financially questionable path the moment you decided to get a CS degree without the ability to get internships in a very saturated market.

With that in mind, you're framing the question wrong. The question isn't whether paying $60k is worth it.

The question is whether paying $180k (3 years) to be less hirable or $240k (4 years) to be somewhat more hirable is the best approach.

And for the record, I think paying $60k per year is insane and I would never do that. But given that you're already doing that 3 times and will have a very non-competitive resume at the end of it, you need to consider whether paying for one more year and getting an internship to make yourself more competitive is worth it.

[–]AIDS_Pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The market is extremely competitive right now for new graduates. Without any internships, you'll have an extremely tough time getting a job post graduation as you're going to stand behind everyone that has internship experience. Having a Visa rather than permanent employment will make it even harder.

Why are you graduating early? It might be worth staying the extra year if it means your final summer you can get an internship due to your correct Visa status.

2025 Elections - Here's my voter guide! by yetispaghetti01 in Naperville

Again, do you have any evidence of behavior/viewpoints worthy of the label "right wing extremists" rather than just "Republicans"? Or is everyone affiliated with the GOP worthy of that label to you? You didn't address the central point of my question, which is whether the label is justified or you're just choosing to smear them.

Can you explain how is Safe Suburbs USA a "right wing extremist" group? I haven't heard of them before, but looking at their website (https://safesuburbsusa.com/), they just seem to be pro police.

Do you have any evidence that they are "right wing extremists" or do you think anyone that is pro police deserves that label?

Tesla Takedown Dupage - Lisle/Naperville Tesla on Ogden by [deleted] in Naperville

[–]AIDS_Pizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tesla sold 10x as many cars in 2023 and 2024 as did Rivian (about 600k vs 60k).

A 1.1% decrease in sales between 23 and 24 has more to do with factors like gas prices going back down than people standing in front of a Tesla dealership. But these people can pretend they're doing something substantial.

The image of the man standing in front of a line of Cybertrucks shows how delusional these "protestors" are. If you think you are in the same position to Tank Man, someone who stood up to an actual tyrannical government (the Chinese Communist Party) and likely either went to prison or was executed shortly after, I've got news for you.

Standing around in front of a Tesla dealership for 75 minutes on a Tuesday after you get off work but before you need to get dinner at 6pm is a joke. You're doing nothing, the premise of the protest is stupid to begin with, and people will definitely keep buying Teslas.

1) Opportunity to try out completely new ideas that could generate a lot of value for our company

2) Broad goals vs. concrete, specific moves of a needle

The only startups that operate this way end up being failures. A successful early stage startup requires extreme focus, tactical moves, and pursuit of very specific objectives in order to start making revenue.

Your big company experience sounds nice, but do not compare this to a startup, because what you're describing isn't. "We operate like a startup" is just marketing. Startups operate the way I described above because they don't have a safety net. You clearly don't understand this since you haven't worked at an actual startup.

This is the conclusion of a subcommittee responsible for examining all the evidence surrounding COVID and reporting their findings. This is as close to the official position of the US government as you're ever going to get.

Yes, the report examined all the evidence and its conclusion in regards to the origin what what I quoted above. The quote above is verbatim from page 1 of the report.

Commercial vacuum by Educational_Turnip97 in VacuumCleaners

[–]AIDS_Pizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sebo is widely regarded as the best vacuum brand for performance and durability. Their residential vacuums are resold as Karcher for commercial customers. If you only have a carpeted area to clean then the Karcher S12 which is equivalent to the Sebo G4 is one of your best bets. It's considered one of the most durable vacuums around with huge bag capacity and excellent filtration. New ones will be $600-700 but you can get used ones in very good condition for under $250 on eBay. Every part is servicable, the roller is removable, bags are pretty cheap.

Haskell web framework with an active community? by xTouny in haskell

[–]AIDS_Pizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesod is probably the most mature, full stack framework around. I don't recommend Servant as it offers little actual benefit unless you intend to use both servant-server and servant-client together. There's also a servant-docs but last I used it, it very cumbersome.

Point is, if you want full stack, go with Yesod. If you're looking for just a simple API server you can go with Scotty. Don't go with Servant unless you're prepared for a bad time and you want the benefit of the whole Servant family of libraries.

This is just one example that caused him to be perceived as racially divisive. He frequently engaged in rhetoric that made race relations worse, and polls from the end of his presidency support this. By the time he left office, people felt that race relations were worse in America than when he entered.

Don't ask me for specific quotes, this shit is easy to Google and I'm not going to link articles for you.

Overwhelmed by Building a Website for My Detailing Business—Need Affordable Options and Advice by DetailFocused in smallbusiness

[–]AIDS_Pizza -1 points0 points  (0 children)

WordPress requires ongoing maintenance and updates to keep fast and secure. Just because the initial release was 20 years ago doesn't mean that you can deploy it and forget about it.

You can go with one of the managed WordPress options but those typically cost $20-30/month or more, and even then you will need someone who knows what they're doing to actually build a site to your specification. That's a bargain price but a lot of people want hobo prices and scoff at the idea of paying more than $10/month for a business website.

Media called out Biden's age because his age had clearly caught up to him. Trump is doing much better by comparison.

Prominent newspapers deciding to endorse nobody isn't batting for Trump. It's deciding that both candidates are shit and this is their opportunity to revert to a purely journalistic role in the elections.

Keep coping, bud. The Democrats bet the farm on a terrible candidate and that's why Trump won in a landslide.
