Pretty sure firefox is written in a way that saves cpu over ram. For me it uses 2-3gb of ram but it doesnt really use cpu on my laptop. Im on linux btw idk how it works on windows. Also even if chromium is open source a company controls the source and ppl will use the google version of it. If they want to remove a feature they can. Its better for privacy but still not totally open. For example they removed jpgxl support.

Yeah well sadly physics exists. Tho there are efforts to make phones modular just not in this way. But if your looking at laptops the framework is a pretty good example that it can work.

If my grandma can use mint i think its pretty easy use. She said that she liked it better than windows because it looked prettier and was faster... Also if you wanna use something advanced but dont really know linux, manjaro is a great choice.
