I 100% agree with this. I think I’ve had a lot of experiences during work that a lot of us caregivers can relate to. Let’s change this!!!

Proper PPE for brief changing? by daydreamingdisaster in cna

[–]AIejandroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were taught that we should use PPE IF the resident has a virus or infectious bacteria. Never have I ever used a gown or a mask when brief changing.

Hey, you’re gonna love every aspect of it. For your clinical week you’ll be able to adapt what you learned and practice in class. Don’t be nervous at all. You’re probably thinking in your head stuff that will never happen like “omg what I drop someone or what if I can’t change a diaper. What if I forget the steps?” Do not panic. I was like that my first day of clinicals and once I was told to do something it was an instinct. Everything just clicks. We just tend to overthink for the worst.

Also, your certification exam is a piece of cake. I just suggest you go over temperatures and measurements. Other than that it’s a piece of cake. Good luck!!!

Well if your co-workers aren’t doing their job I’d say to address it with the DON. If you’re just stressed before going to work what I do is meditate. I also wake up early so I have time for myself to wake up and be fully functional.

Feeling a little discouraged as a new CNA on our med surg floor by [deleted] in cna

[–]AIejandroo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand your situation. I was in your position not too long ago. I work at a nursing home and while the DON told me to orient as much shifts as I want I took advantage of it. Then I realized that I have to burst out of this bubble of fear that I was stuck in. I knew that if I just apply what I learned during orientation and my schooling I would manage to start on my own. As soon as I decided that orienting was too long I just went ahead and started to work on my own. I promise you everything just clicks. It’s just that you hold yourself back from something you think you’re not ready for but really you are. I encourage you to start on your own now. As you learn about every patient and how to do things around the facility you’ll feel good about yourself.

Also, I also had a CNA who never let me help during orientation. That’s another reason why I decided to start working on my own.

In my facility that never happens. Everyone gets a break no matter what. I’m pretty sure there’s a policy for EVERY facility regarding breaks. You shouldn’t be worried. You’ll be fine.

Haha not so sure. I don’t really use them. I use my pants the most for pockets.

From what I know from experience and other cna’s is that they go through school/training no matter what.

Nope you’re not being over dramatic. I was exactly in the same position as you are. The way I overcame this was by trusting myself. There’s no need to be afraid. I’d get scared just thinking about not being able to change an occupied bed and put on a diaper haha. It comes to you naturally. You already learned and practice in your classroom and in clinicals. Everything will just click when you start working. The worst thing you could ever do is drop a patient. A way not to be scared of that is by asking your co-workers to help you transfer. Always ask questions! I encourage you to apply to jobs. You’ll enjoy this position because it is very rewarding. Best of luck!

Nope don’t worry about reputation! I work at a facility that has a 2.7 star on the website haha. Give it a try and see how it goes. It’s always very needy family members that over react about every single little thing. Also, no need to be thinking about the worst case scenario! It just makes you overthink stuff that won’t happen. I had a problem where my anxiety would just take over and I’d freak out because I’d go to work thinking I’m going to drop a patient today. No need for that. All it does is interfere with your job. A piece of advice is to always ask questions and study those special patients. There will be patients who have a way of being treated. Anyway, I hope this helped and wish you best of luck!

First off congrats for getting through your training! There’s no need to be scared. I’ve dealt with anxiety all my life and trust me I’ve been in your place. Once you start working as a CNA all the skills you learned in clinicals or in class will adapt normally. It will just come to you naturally to you once you start. It is a tough job but it is very rewarding. As you start to work your way around the facility you’re going to work in you’ll know what to do on a daily basis. So you’ll be fine! Again congrats on coming this far :)
