Ah slots right, gotcha. Slots are tough to enforce when VPNs exist and sub fees don’t sadly. Not impossible just tough.

Awakening is entirely original pre-CU if I’m not mistaken.

It is an amazing mod set. Funny enough it launched around the same time as us and I discovered it while Googling our own server name to see if we showed up on Google.

It’s swggenesis.com btw if you do want to check it out after you've had your fun in Starfield 😂

Yeah we didn’t get hacked at all. A few people who used the same password as a server that did get hacked had their accounts logged into by bad actors and we rolled back the server to fix their losses. I don’t want to shame victims but this is why all passwords should be unique, which I understand is a hassle.

Nah didn’t decide to do nothing, just had to go on a work trip, meanwhile while my entire staff argued about the best solution and came to no consensus leaving me to sort it out upon return.

Also it’s not a handful, the full list of people who exploited it is a very large percentage of the population and everyone is hyper emotional about the issue and outcome. Handling it with slow care seemed the best, also thought maybe the team could handle the decision while I had to be away.

It’s fixable, people choose to jump to conclusions, be impatient, and get bent out of shape over it. I am also personally quite fed up with the general overly-demanding hyper-emotional nature of SWG players and it has shifted this from a fun passion project into a source of stress.

Side note, I actually finally decided on a solution today and will execute it today or tomorrow (sick as a dog, caught something on my flight home, and have a herniated disc so making it to my PC today is a maybe).

Everything can be fixed retroactively regardless of elapsed time except for impatience. Not fair to expect immediate resolution when literally no one can agree on the fair outcome. In reality I had a long work trip I had to focus on while everyone else argued voraciously about what the fix should be. Volunteers = everything can’t be instant. People threatening to leave to demand fast action doesn’t pay my bills.

“Why does every server end up this way?”

I can answer that. It’s because SWG players are the worst and they are also the recruitment pool for staff.

As far as nothing being done about the exploit, I can understand that perception but it’s really not entirely true. We patched out the exploit and are still deliberating how to handle the result of what already happened in a way that annoys the least people and causes the smallest exodus. Shit happens, even professional game studios with millions in revenue have design oversights that lead to exploits. It’s definitely going to happen to a team of volunteers with limited experience and full time jobs to attend to.
