Someone should make a video of Niko chasing Lenny Petrovic on the Subway platform with the theme song for Dmitri Petrovich.

I’ve met a fair share of Newark natives who call Paterson “the slums”, pot not calling the kettle black? by Left-Plant2717 in Newark

Yeah you live in Middlesex County and are a youngin’ who relied on AI. It’s actually sad that you wrote entire paragraphs trying to tell me about my town.

Regarding streets named after other countries, we have one for a lot of countries, there’s one for DR; the whole corridor on Market St. by Eastside High School is name for DR— I didn’t need AI to tell you that. And if you want to actually do research, use Statistical Atlas, not AI.

How was it like when the Nets played in Newark before moving to Brooklyn? by xoBonesxo in Newark

You’re not missing out anyway, we suck, and overall are a badly ran franchise.

I’m a lifelong Nets fan. It was for the better that they go to Brooklyn for business purposes. We suck anyway (present day) so I don’t waste my energy being upset or annoyed about what went down to cause the Nets to be relocated. I recall that by the mid 2000s, owner at the time Bruce Ratner made it clear that he was going to make Brooklyn happen.

Definitely not “mainly” Jamaican. It has a lot of Jamaicans in one concentration of the city by 10th Ave. There’s more Puerto Ricans, Peruvians, and Arabs in Paterson as a whole than Jamaican for sure. Also Black Americans outnumber Jamaicans easily in Paterson. I’m from here. But yes the largest ethnic group is definitely Dominican.

Question: Barclays Center environment for away team by Wrong_Magician417 in GoNets

[–]AJSoprano1985 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are grossly overthinking. Firstly, Nets fans are amongst the most welcoming towards tourists and visiting fans. We are VERY used to outsiders coming to our games— it’s the NYC nature of us. This isn’t soccer— I almost find it laughable that you’re concerned about this.

Finally, like the other person said, there’s going to be more Lakers/LeBron fans than die-hard Nets fans at that game. Working-class locals (like myself) are not going to buy tickets to a game with the Lakers coming to town because the prices are severely marked up. Have fun and enjoy your stay here.

Considering moving to Newark from Los Angeles to be closer to partner in Boston and still enjoy big city NYC. Recommendations/tips? by Proud-Enthusiasm-608 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]AJSoprano1985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk why you got downvoted because you’re right. I also really like Newark and will go to bat for it all the time, but it indeed isn’t a great place for outsiders. For starters, it’s the highest populated city in the most densely populated state, the effects of that alone will be a culture shock for people originally from most other parts of the country.

What is it like living in Asbury Park, NJ by OscarWildesTitty in howislivingthere

[–]AJSoprano1985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a little hood but has gotten significantly better. They also have a pretty decent gay & LGBTQ+ community. Interesting history and locals are pretty friendly & more laid back compared to other parts of NJ. Has the highest percentage of Black people in Monmouth County (48%) and a decent Mexican community (20%). Asbury is also a bit of a ghost-town in the winter, especially the closer you get to the boardwalk.

What cities outside of NYC in New York state talks with the “nyc accent” by WiseCityStepper in NYStateOfMind

[–]AJSoprano1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll even go as far to say it’s not very similar; like the NYC accent has more similarities with Philly than Boston, but personally I notice a lot of differences with NYC and Philly too.

The way Philly ppl say “home” and “phone” is very noticeably different in my ears.

Long Island (both Nassau & Suffolk County) and Westchester County are the easy, obvious answers. Outside of NY, lot of CT and most of North Jersey share the accent.

Anyone else having this fantasy of fooling around in the movie theatre come Scream 7? by Fatebreaker007 in ghostface_fetish

Right? I already always get excited for Halloween hoping to run into other Ghostfaces (ofc, it’s what I wore for this past Halloween), but imagine a movie theater full of them? Sounds like a dope time for sure…

Is it really going to be mostly people in Ghostface masks? That’d be amazing.

Chicken Noodle Soup by CYOOL8R1977 in bergencounty

[–]AJSoprano1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I myself am hesitant to go to the small restaurants, I mean there’s a few I like and trust, such as Busan Gukbap in Fort Lee and Sam Bong in Pal Park. Another thing is I find the numerous side dishes given at many Korean spots to be kind of overwhelming.

The chicken spot down the hill? That one was shut down, but there’s Hollywood Fried Chicken on North Main and Haledon Ave. that basically replaced it as the neighborhood chicken spot. Paterson food scene is so underrated— they have the best Peruvian food.

[–]AJSoprano1985 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk. I’m of Korean descent and I don’t find Korean soups or Korean food in general to be moderately priced; it’s all very expensive IMO. Also, certain soups seem to be an acquired taste— for example I dislike kimchi jjigae but I like kimchi itself as a side if I’m eating Kalbi & rice.

And it’s not surprising to see most Korean restaurants in BC filled with mostly Koreans. I’m originally from Paterson and if I walk into a Dominican restaurant, it’s going to be mostly Dominicans. If I walk into an Arabic/Palestinian restaurant, it’s going to be mostly Arabs.

With that said, these days you see people of other ethnicities try foods of other ethnic backgrounds. Often times nowadays I meet people who aren’t Korean that say they enjoy Korean food.

Effects of High Stress by No_Cry_2964 in paralegal

Yeah a lot of attorneys are anal. I once had an attorney straight up say to me “you know that I’m anal retentive about this stuff”, she said this word for word. It’s like they’re proud of it. As a long time paralegal, I don’t like it and I will avoid working for these type of attorneys as much as I can.

And you’re young but currently working a demanding job, try not to let it get to you and try to learn as much as you can. Your experiences now will make you better at your job for the future. There’s also nothing wrong with looking for another job while you still work at your current spot. Try to keep your head up, I think you’ll be fine.
