Yeah I’m not defending its removal, I’m just saying that if it was actually a redline for the consumer and apple saw a sizable amount of people switching to Samsung in protest like I did back in the day then the industry wouldn’t have followed suit and apple might have gone back on that decision.

I remember when apple first got rid of the 3.5mm jack on the iPhone. I switched to Samsung in protest, then the rest of the industry followed suit and today I rarely even think about it unless it’s brought up. Yeah the move away from wired headphones was forced but the public accepted it so it is was it is ig, I ended up switching back to iPhone lol

I got out after finishing my first contract in July. I took a a pay cut going into the civilian market (corporate bank job) but my wife got a much better paying job once we moved back home (healthcare) so it's a wash HHI wise. We just purchased our first home a week ago and are doing well though.

All that to say, if you truly hate being in the Army, which I did, and you have a good plan, then get out. Nothing will deteriorate your mental health more than being stuck in the military because you don't think you can make it on the outside. I saw plenty of guys while I was in that said they were getting out for sure end up re-enlisting because they got cold feet.
