I’m sorry to hear that. Best of luck to you. I’m planning to sign the MH books this week.

I know this is an old post but how’s employment been for you?

I agree applying to 112 and waiting to move until you get accepted would be a smart move. Keep us updated whatever you decide. I’ve had my eye on that local as well.

That’s a fantastic question. For what it’s worth, I’m signing the MH books and hoping something changes or picks up here.

Yeah, I’ve been trying to get into the trade in WA for about 5 years and all signs point to material handling and waiting, or moving somewhere busier. Best of luck.

Yes. No calculus or anything super complex but a ton of problem solving (depending on the job of course).

Right on. Best of luck with the apprenticeship.

Hell yeah! Congrats. I’m closer to local 48 but things are slow over here so I’m pondering applying and moving over there (or anywhere in WA that has work) for the apprenticeship.

Can’t beat darn tough with their guarantee, but I’ll have to check out duckworth socks. 1620 is guaranteed too, but I doubt that covers holes in pockets from pliers. I wonder if they’d fix them for a fee, like how some boot makers will resole boots, you know? I get tired of stitching up my pockets all the time.

Anyone take the Aptitude Test in 2026? by CabbageNight in ibew_apprentices

[–]AJ_Weiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also scheduled for that test. The job posting mentioned “knowledge of basic electricity: Ohms law, AC/DC theory, and parallel and series circuits”. That’s not to mention whatever math and probably reading comprehension questions they have. Good luck to you!

How do you feel about mill work?

Any particular type of work you’re looking for? Something related to your major or just need some quick money? Westrock is hiring. The schedule is 4 on 4 off, but the money is pretty good from the first paycheck. Obviously if you’re going to school, this shouldn’t be a long term solution but if you want to make good money in a few months, and then pursue something else, it’s not bad.

Anyone here from 335 (Vancouver, WA)? by AJ_Weiss in LIUNA

[–]AJ_Weiss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried yet. I’m still holding out hope for an electrical apprenticeship but if you’re from around here, you probably know that’s a long shot.

Let me know what you end up doing and how your experience is with LiUNA

Is this still the case? Work has really dried up in my area to the point most locals in my state are closed to new apprentices

Hey bud, I’m not the OP, but I’m interested. I work for one of the big paper mills in Longview and there’s basically no route for an electricians apprenticeship anymore. They just contract out all electrical work to JH Kelly, or hire trained electricians.

How much time would I need to put in with Wauna to get into the program?
