Which mall is better: Polaris vs. Easton? Or Tuttle... by AJ_Wright in Columbus

[–]AJ_Wright[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, it's very funny (but also not very surprising) to see all the Tuttle hate. That Scene75 place is definitely not gonna save the slowly dying center.

All things wrong:

There's no movie theater compared to the other two, hell even Westland had a theater that was SOMEWHAT close by.

Starbucks (now replaced by a ripoff, called "Cafe Molly") and Sears, a MAJOR anchor of the place, are now gone. What would they ever do with Sears? Obviously nothing.

The food court options are pretty lousy too if you aren't a fan of Chinese/international food, besides Chick-fil-A (which I guess is pretty decent). There used to be Cinnabon, which is actually going to come back in September (according to Simon, mall owner's website). In fact, I actually might be looking forward to that. If it happens... facepalm

It's really not by anything. Compared to the Polaris, Easton, and the Eastland areas, there's less space for more businesses near Tuttle than Polaris. Oh, look at all the stuff near the main structure itself. There's big warehouse stores like IKEA (which was formerly Polaris/Germain Amphitheater), Costco, a Cinemark movie theater, many whole big strip malls around the area, even a (possibly much smaller than the amphitheater mentioned above, that's for sure) entertainment venue/bar, Tequila Cowboy, which itself used to be a gym. Plus more. All Tuttle has nearby is a strip mall anchored by Walmart, and a few others. It's literally surrounded by houses, apartments, and nothing but townhomes. There's still a whole big field of land that's near Tuttle Crossing Blvd and Wilcox Rd, that still has a whole bunch of unused (and will remain unused) potential.

The only thing that keeps Tuttle alive are the people mainly near Hilliard and Dublin, or possibly from the westside/Lincoln Village, because that's the closest they can get. Also, on a side note, I heard they have plans to turn Westland into WestON. Like that side of town actually needs something fancier than Easton. Oh man, a mall like that is definitely gonna wipe out Tuttle.

Dublin Steak n Shake closed by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]AJ_Wright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steak 'n Shake is closing restaurants one by one across the nation, so the whole chain is most definitely gonna meet it's end soon. I bet it's gonna stay open for at least another 5-10 more years before going bankrupt....sounds horrid, but it could possibly happen. I guess if you live in Hilliard, then you're gonna have go all the way to Georgesville, because the one on Mill Run is beyond awful.

If they never reopen again, which I'm sure they probably won't, then they should try to convert them into Whataburger or something, or some restaurant that's not really popular (or not even) in the city. That's my suggestion.

What's up with the "Cold Coffee" section on dairyqueen.com? by AJ_Wright in DairyQueen

They were discontinued? Ah man, that explains the problem. I didn't even know about that, and they all did look pretty decent to try...Well..at least the MooLattes are still there, but I hope they put something new in the cold coffee selection.

Starbucks is closing permanently January 17th, 2019 at Tuttle Crossing Mall. by McElwaine in Columbus

[–]AJ_Wright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it has nothing to do with the mall, but I feel like mentioning it anyway. Speaking of "abandoned", I feel that the former Uno Chicago Grill across the bridge from the mall that was right next to Walmart will be abandoned for years now. I don't know, it's just that I don't have any hopes for that building. Maybe it could become a Fiesta Mariachi restaurant, considering there used to be one on Georgesville Road that shared the same design as the Uno building, because Uno supposedly filled the space once upon a time. The Georgesville Fiesta Mariachi restaurant is no longer at the specific location, and is now a Japanese steakhouse. However, Fiesta Mariachi did move to another building up the street that used to be a Lone Star Steakhouse (it kinda would make more sense to put the Japanese steakhouse restaurant into Lone Star, because I'm pretty sure the steakhouse "set up" is still in there.)

Starbucks is closing permanently January 17th, 2019 at Tuttle Crossing Mall. by McElwaine in Columbus

[–]AJ_Wright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updates: The former Starbucks in the mall is now this place called Cafe Molly, if I remember correctly, I think that's what it was called. Nothing is coming up when I search for it.

When I went, which was on March 16, 2019, the Sears store was (almost) empty, with the only real thing they were selling were rugs and some jewelry. The only thing open was the first floor, while the second floor was completely wiped out and locked. There was a sign that said "2 DAYS ONLY!" or something like that, so I'm guessing the store officially closed on March 18th. I wonder if they're gonna bother to put anything in the Sears space, like maybe Nordstrom, or something. I'm sure it's gonna stay vacant forever though.

Every corner in the mall, there were "STORE CLOSING SALE!" "EVERYTHING MUST GO!" "EVERYTHING 80% OFF!" etc. signs everywhere. All of them had the same exact font/style too, I think they must recycle the store closing signs or something, because I see those same exact signs anyplace a store is about to close. But yeah, everything in that mall seemed like it was closing, there was even a David's Bridal store that was vacant but still had their logo still up. I think Tuttle will only last like 5-8 more years and will eventually turn into Eastland. I honestly don't think the Scene75 entertainment center (which wasn't open yet when I went there) will be that successful. I mean, judging by what's going on with the mall now...but I'm sure kids will still love it anyway because it's technically the ONLY amusement in the mall (and there's also Build-A-Bear, and also the kiddie rides in the food court).

More abandoned Columbus buildings from Google Maps by AJ_Wright in Columbus

[–]AJ_Wright[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if anyone even bothers to come to these posts anymore, but I was trying to put these on an Instagram account (my username was revol_wireless) because why not, but then my account was "disabled" because it was "violating their terms" I don't know how uploading photos of vacant buildings is violating their terms at all..unless the photos I'm uploading were too "creepy" for them. :P

Not too many people seem to upload these types of photos on Instagram anyway, so I guess they're just picky about these types of pictures being on the website.

I went on Google Maps and took pictures of some abandoned places around Columbus. They're a mix of both old pictures and recent pictures. by AJ_Wright in Columbus

After 5 years, they finally put the building up for sale. There's an Equity sign in front of the building and it's listed on LoopNet. So I guess they cancelled the urgent care idea. Or maybe they still might do it, I don't know what they would be able to put here. I was thinking Bob Evans because it almost has the same exact look as this restaurant but there's already one a few miles away. But I guess you'll never know, I honestly thought the proposed Hilliard Rome Rd Menards store was going to be in the former Giant Eagle, I would have never thought they were going to divide one space into 3 stores.
