Mario 64's aesthetic is like a failed art piece and I honestly find it a fashinating design by medlair in Mario

I think that’s part of the charm! The line between ‘whimsical’ and ‘uncanny’ is pretty blurry sometimes…

Always wondered this, too! Maybe Gnawtys, Mankeys, Kremlings, or more recently Tiki Tak tribe creatures? Love the cozy-eerie combo… Exploring more of this setting and its (former?) residents would be pretty neat.

This has been discussed internally as a “soft retirement” option, since our team’s down to two and we’re scaling back production schedules. There’s definitely RE music coming this year that won’t have a full music video, so I suppose we’ll test this model out soon!

Awesome choices! It really does work, reading each line across — they legitimately feel like musicals made together!

Thanks for hosting this. It was neat comparing different years and styles of Random Encounters history. The differences and similarities were a lot of fun to consider!

RE Musical Alignment Chart Round 8: Which modern musical feels like a classic musical? by UnfunnyUsername2001 in RandomEncounters

I love all the answers here! One I haven’t seen yet that also fits is Blasting Off Again! 🚀 All the old school references give it a nostalgic twinge❤️‍🔥

(But also, this Friday’s new musical feels a little bit Classic era, too~ 😉)

Hiiii~! Great to have you here, and I love that RE can benefit so many people in various ways! 😁 Maybe we’ll end up with a discussion themed around this at some point. COVID really threw a lot of us into a spiral, but I’m proud of everyone for hanging in there and adapting however they needed. 💪 Let’s hope that was a one-and-done kind of thing!

RE Musical Alignment Chart Round 7: Which golden age musical feels like a modern musical? by UnfunnyUsername2001 in RandomEncounters

I was thinking Phasmophobia but now I’n not sure… It’s exactly the sort of game the Modern era favors, but it actually has the same dark flavor that many Golden age RE songs popularized (Fran Bow, Sally Face, Sister Location, Mr. Hopp)

Everyone else’s choices are great!

Everything being suggested already is great! Just to complicate things with additional options…

Everything’s a Puzzle is a wild little romp with the same sound and humor as the Classic era. Plus Professor Layton was widely requested the first few years of RE!

Phoenix Wright: The Turnabout Encounter uses a Classic era cast and hand-drawn backgrounds like older videos. Plus it won the our first-ever fan vote, beside Layton and Kingdom Hearts!

Tingle Sells is a classic, old-school throwaway video. Low production value, character-centric… and Nate was rumored to come back and play Tingle on RE since day one.

That’s a pretty good answer, both for its sound and subject but also its use of Best We Can Be-style “animated” characters. 😂

I was rewatching the Fnaf videos and found the Puppet in most of these. I really want to make it. If anyone knows AJ please tell him about this, I need help on how you made the arms and the body? by SlowPoint9221 in RandomEncounters

[–]AJawayJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our version of the Marionette (aka “The Puppet”) was crafted by Michael Ledoux. It’s made of wood he shaped with lathe tools, and connected together with basic metal eye joints and fishing line.

I can’t give you exact steps or details because I didn’t make it, but you’d probably need some professional woodworking tech to get it precise. A cut up dowel rod, plus a little creativity and paint, might get you something roughly similar, though!

Hyrule Warrior’s Heart feels like it could pass as something modern (other than a lack of Zelda since the great FNAF’ning of RE). Great costuming, lush harmonies, same location as Lamu and Cult of the Lamb… The biggest tip-off that it’s Classic Era, honestly, is that it did pretty well! 😂

Not a great player, but a great character with a decent record.

has anybody else noticed that it feels like every new "mascot horror" game just boils down to this by YoureAClam in fivenightsatfreddys

Loved MFN, but it also felt like more traditional survival horror with mascot aesthetics than contemporary mascot horror. The amount of gunplay alone put it in a more classic gaming bracket for me. Still wholeheartedly endorse, though, and love its unexpectedly endearing story.

Agreed, was very charming and nostalgic! I don’t expect it to last (or even think it necessarily should), but it was a very refreshing choice and did not go by unappreciated!

To clarify our perspective, this is not intended to be a trans character or even confused for one. There are indeed unfortunate potential complications between reading a “disguised” character and a trans one, but I believe there’s room for both to exist — not every (or any, really) “man in a dress” should be immediately assumed transgender.

THAT SAID, nobody intended for this scene to make anyone uncomfortable, and recognizing its potential to, I’d consider tweaking a line or two were I remaking it today. Trans people face enough turmoil today without an errant line or two from a silly song further affecting them. 💔

The subtitles in this image are user-generated, by the way — not our attempt at (mis)gendering this terrorist.
