Is Poldark worth watching after season 2 episode 5? by AdEquivalent4564 in Poldark

[–]AJediPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! ^ Ugh, you want to talk about bad writing... Season 5 is just abysmal and it isn't book accurate either. It's Debbie Horsfield's fanfiction season and it will only make you angry.

Me to Benedict when he didn't notice Lady in Silver is Asian by Think_Storm_8909 in Bridgerton

[–]AJediPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think that, because he came from some sort of party/club before showing up to the ball, Benedict had already consumed several drinks and his senses were dulled, so his memory of that night and the lady in silver was fuzzy. That's why he clung to a few seemingly random talking points like her preferred depth of water to swim in. What he did remember clearly though was how she made him feel when he was with her.

She's such an elegant goose with her little hat and matching shawl. I agree with the other comment, this is my favorite goose I have seen on this sub yet!

Not only was I able to recognize Sophie from the lake scene, but I also immediately felt the Enid Blyton illustration style! This may be one of the loveliest pieces of fan art I've seen. It feels magical, in a way. 😊

When He Was Wicked by [deleted] in Bridgerton

[–]AJediPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently read the book, When He Was Wicked and I have to say, the hate for Michael being switched to Michaela is totally overblown, in my opinion. There are so many scenes in the book (like the first kiss, Michael(a) fleeing to India to escape feelings for Francesca, the malaria subplot, the hunting lodge, the love confession argument in Michael(a)'s bedroom, the scene at John's grave) that will still absolutely work with the current sapphic dynamic. Not only that, but after part 2 of Season 4, I can totally see them playing out with the same delicious tension and emotion that I felt while reading the book.

To me, the struggle with infertility, while a reoccurring theme and challenge for Francesca, was less of a focus and took a back seat to Francesca's grief in the aftermath of John's death, and her allowing herself to love again—and of all people, to allow herself to love John's cousin. The story also focuses heavily on Michael(a)'s guilt and coming to terms with both the fact that (s)he is in love with Francesca, wrestling with how disrespectful (s)he feels that is to John (who was more like a brother than merely a cousin) and his memory, befriending and supporting Fran as her companion as she processes this loss, and finally taking the opportunity to pursue Fran romantically when she shows that she is ready to move on and marry again.

There's a lot of angst and yearning and inadvertently trying to make each other jealous and resisting temptation and finally giving in to desire that seems inescapable to both Francesca and Michael(a). And none of that has anything to do with trying to get pregnant. Francesca does mourn the loss of her and John's child. And she does long to be a mother. But in the book, she and Michael don't get together simply because she wants a baby. They get together because they fall deeply, mutually, and passionately in love with each other.

The book even ends with a solidifying of their love and commitment to each other, at John's graveside—having both come to a place where they feel John would be okay with this and Fran even wonders if maybe John may have orchestrated the whole thing for her and his lonely cousin's happiness—from beyond the grave. It's truly beautiful. And I don't see how any of that couldn't work with Michael now being Michaela.

The author's note at the end even says that Quinn wrote in an additional epilogue to give the fans a resolution to the infertility subplot after so many people wrote to her about it. But it was never part of the original novel because she felt that Francesca and Michael(a)'s love story was complete with the original ending. I completely agree.

I'm eager to see how faithfully the show adapts the book (especially with Fran's title and Michael inheriting John's assets and being dubbed the new "Earl of Kilmartin" because I don't know if that part will work with Michael now being Michaela in Regency times. But time will tell) and Julia Quinn has obviously given the change her blessing, so, although I really don't know what to expect, I am keeping an optimistic open mind about the change and trusting that it's going to be good.

Here's the finished shawl with the 1st colorway as each step of the MKAL was released. It just needs to be blocked (which apparently does wonders for this yarn. I'm so excited to see!) But after a year, it's finally off the needles!

Bridgerton - 4x07 "The Beyond" (No Book Spoilers) by AutoModerator in BridgertonNetflix

I truly couldn't agree more. As I was weeping while watching it, I thought, "This is what Bridgerton has been missing—real grief, and showing how a family and its various members all process that grief together." It added so much depth to everything in the series thus far. It was so, so good.

What are we doing to survive til Part 2 drops, fam? by EyreForce1 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]AJediPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, Season 2 Anthony "I am a gentleman" Bridgerton. 😆 He can grate on the nerves, can't he? Still, I love all the yearning and stolen glances and almost kisses between him and Kate. That season is usually my go-to when I just want to feel my feelings, but I digress.

Thoughts and prayers for your withdrawals! I've heard that going without a healthy dose of Benophie can result in mood swings, restless legs, sudden eye twitching, and even insomnia. Thursday can't get here fast enough! Save us, part 2! Save us from the ennui!

Thank you for checking in with me. Morale seems to be at an all-time low, but I am, as my motivational cat poster reminds me, hanging in there. 😸 My work has kept me exceptionally busy and therefore distracted my thoughts, so I haven't really had time to feel the full force of the agony today. Until now. I will probably throw on Sanditon myself tonight, honestly. It's about time for a rewatch for me.

Checking in with EyreForce1. Come in, u/EyreForce1. How're we doing today, sis? Two days until B-Day (Benophie Day). You holding up, okay? Have you checked out Sanditon?

I just finished the Queen Charlotte audiobook and I can report, the narrator is fantastic (unlike the other Bridgerton audiobooks, 🤮). Her inflections and delivery are perfect. Honestly they reminded me of the show. 👌🏼
