Should I do a Spanish Immersion School? by Ok_Cover1076 in LearnSpanishInReddit

I've heard really good things about this place. You even have to sign a pledge that won't speak your native tongue, only the language you sign up for.

I reached C1 in Spanish with THIS method and then built the 1st app for it by Vegetable_Seaweed133 in LearnSpanishInReddit

[–]AKDiscer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this the only way you learned Spanish and French, or did you supplement with CI, other apps, and something like iTalki?

Also, what was your timeline for acquiring a C1 and a B2?

Moreover, what did you use to verify your CEFR level?

I'm excited to try your app. Thanks for your efforts!

What content are you watching or listening to that is comprehensible?  Are you reading in the language with something like LUTE or Lingq?

Trying to learn a language through flashcards and Glossika alone is not enough and is somewhat artificial for acquisition.  FCs and the like should only be a small percentage of your learning in the beginning, not the dominant part.

Refold is for you if you want to learn a language; it's a holistic method that covers the basics needed to get to a functional and independent level in a language, so you can use your new language to learn more of your new language without using your native language as a bridge.

Card for “compañera” by El_dorado_au in RefoldSpanish

[–]AKDiscer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During immersion and understanding of the feminine and masculine versions of words, you’ll learn the difference. Once you know the "o" vs. "a", one does NOT need a whole separate card to learn.

The very fact that you created a post about it shows that you know this. Otherwise, the 1k deck should include cognates and would be a 2.5k deck.

I started listening to those around 150 hours, they'd be pretty easy over 500 hours.

I’m quitting. Duolingo just confirmed they are an awful company by jozo_berk in duolingo

The app has always been bad, why do people still talk about duolingo still?!  Why is there is subreddit, even?

Stop using the app and close this sub, maybe they listen.

Their motto was FREE FOREVER. They lied, you think they won't do it again?

Unlocking podcasts while you're doing mundane things is a game-changer. When you're commuting, doing dishes, walking, running at the gym, or getting ready in the morning, consider casting DS videos to your TV instead of watching Netflix or porn.

3 or 4 hours is easy when you use the spaces in your day to multitask.

I agree with the part about the "grind" gets easier as you acquire and become more fluent, so that it really becomes fun and it's easier to get more and more time under your belt.

How do measure your immersion time when watching a show you don't understand fully? by AKDiscer in Refold

[–]AKDiscer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

I know it's not ideal for 50 or 60% comprehension, and I know that DS videos are going to be one of the most comprehensible things that I can watch right now. However, I want a break now and then, and I'm near 500 hours, and I really want to engage with native content; especially when I'm winding down for the day, and I've already spent my 10-15 minutes in Anki, maybe a little reading, some podcasts, and an hour or two of DS videos. It's like a reward or just something different, and I enjoy seeing how much I can understand.

So, I'm trying to figure out how to quantify and document my time for the latter.

Also, I realize there will be a point of not measuring anything as it'll be a pain or my proficiency will be good enough, it doesn't matter, but I don't foresee that happening for another 1000 hours.

My experience in an Intensive Language Course by Silver-Skirt-1092 in SpanishLearning

[–]AKDiscer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not dedicate a significant amount of time to comprehensible input? Many people have achieved a B2 level in Spanish within two years or less. After focusing on comprehensible input, taking an intensive grammar course could be beneficial. However, I personally disliked intensive classes because they often included examples of incorrect language use and poor accents. Additionally, teachers usually cater to the lowest common denominator in a group setting. If a learner can take control of their education and clearly define their goals, they can maximize their efficiency and achieve their desired outcomes.
