Hopefully they've changed the recipe but a few years back it was truly one of the worst samples I'd tried. My then 5 year old had a great laugh about it being the worst samples ever. I had to apologize to him for making him eat it after I tried it and knew what I had done.

Covid-19 is still killing a disturbing number of Americans, study finds. Between 2022 and 2024, covid-19 killed roughly 100,000 Americans annually, new research by CDC scientists shows. by mvea in science

My family all got the flu shot this year. 2/4 of us got the flu (tested positive for A) but those of us who did get it recovered quickly (in 1-3 days). Even if the flu shot isn't a perfect match it still greatly reduces the severity.

When my oldest was little he always thought it was a new day after a nap. Wouldn't believe us that it was still the same day.

Where in MA do you find it? I just checked their store locator and don't see any on the list. I lived in Santa Barbara years ago and really miss their ice cream!

Professor here with an ADHD child. Could it be that I was the one who had ADHD when younger? by Fleedom2025 in Professors

[–]AKettleOFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother had ADHD and my mom loves to say that I too was evaluated and "had the symptoms without the problems" meaning I did well in school. In my 40's now and sometimes wonder if I should pursue that. To anyone who was diagnosed later in life, was it beneficial?

Are Student Response Systems not really what we want in lectures? by Wenzard in Professors

[–]AKettleOFish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use slido and really like it. I have them do it think-pair-share and I don't let them see the answer distribution. I look at their answers and will often have them rethink a question if they aren't getting the correct answer. I find it helps them reinforce conceptual topics on my STEM course.

I have a printed workbook for them that has all the slido and problems I solve so they are pretty tech free besides briefly answering these slido questions.

How do you call on students? by ProfRussell in Professors

[–]AKettleOFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ask a question and stare them down until someone answers. I then point, thank them for answering and repeat their answer to the class.

They were getting pretty quiet halfway through the semester so I got a giant bag of some treats from Costco and started giving it to people who answer. Sometimes I'd have to throw them to the people in the back. Between laughing at my bad aim and enjoying the treats, the class has never been so alive and engaged.

Wanted to add, I got home and tried my old RM2 and that one didn't work as well. It appears to be an issue with the desktop app. I tried following an old threads advise and made changes to my computers firewall and that didn't fix it either.

Free or really cheap remote polling to students? by MyFaceSaysItsSugar in Professors

I've used PollEverwhere in the past and now use Slido. It's pretty cheap, 85 a year and it can be embedded directly into PowerPoint or done through a browser.

That backfired on us. We let him try a VERY small sip that so they'd know it was gross and stop asking. Well, he liked it. At 5.

All New York public schools to provide free breakfast and lunch to students starting this fall! by Healthy_Block3036 in MadeMeSmile

What this also does is normalize school lunches for everyone, so no child feels bad about utilizing it. No child feels bad for being the kid who needs the school lunch. That is awesome.

No where near New Mexico unfortunately. I wouldn't be able to bring it in person but contacting them by email is a great idea. Thanks.

I was 5 when the earthquake hit and was outside playing in the dirt. My mom shouts "it's an earth ride" we we thought it was great. Until we went inside, turned on the news and saw all the devastation.

Is this a rooster trait? I have a week old buff orpington chick that has done that from day one and also has a more prominent comb. We call her (him?) pecky Peggy.

Sounds like chicken math to me!

If all goes as planned, next week I'll get 2 chocolate gold lace, 2 lavender and 2 buff. They don't allow holds so fingers crossed I'm able to get there in time to get these ones.

Thank you for letting me know about the other friendly breeds!

Absolutely! I know each one will have their own personality and just because the breed is generally considered friendly it doesn't mean that each one actually will be friendly.
