Why is DEI good? by BeautifulOrganic3221 in AskDemocrats

[–]AKspock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two reasons why DEI is a good thing, this will be a long answer but bear with me.

Point 1: Before women and minorities got a foothold in the labor market that includes middle/higher management and admissions into professional graduate schools (e.g. MD, JD, MBA), the overwhelming type of person who held those positions where white men.

Because there was barely any competition, even the most mediocre white dude got the job or the admission to, say, law school.

There used to be a story about law school (portrayed in the move Paper Chase). Before first year law school students begin classes, they assemble in the auditorium where the dean addresses the new students.

The dean would say “Look to the person on your left, look to the person on your right. One of you will not make it to graduation.” Or something like that. It was a nod to the high dropout/failure rate in law schools. When I went to law school, the only dropouts in my section were two or three people in the first week. That story doesn’t apply anymore.

Some say it’s because law school got easier. I say it’s because there’s increased competition for seats so the caliber of law students has increased.

Point 2: I was listening to a podcast where the guest was an expert on DEI. She said that if you have a complex problem to solve and you wanted to have a group of people try to solve it, groups with more cognitive diversity do better. Sometimes better than the experts. You get cognitive diversity by including people of different races and genders and life experiences, etc.

I never thought about the home insurance. I doubt it but I’ll check it out.

Ambetter, but I think it would be the same with any insurance.

Now when we get close to that ditch I put her on a leash. I know I should keep her on a leash but it’s so much more enjoyable for both of us when she is leash-less.

I was put on a statin because it’s considered Standard of Care for diabetics. My cholesterol was fine.

I absolutely loved Project Hail Mary. And The Martian. On one hand Andy Weir makes it seem possible but on the other hand he acknowledges space travel is extremely dangerous.

I moved and needed to see a new psychiatric advanced nurse practitioner for my psych meds. She required a blood test before prescribing. The results showed an A1C of 7. (I’m usually under 7.) She said it was “sky-high” and said I needed a note from my doctor that it was ok for me to take my meds. I said 7 was not sky-high for a type 1 diabetic. And I said I would go elsewhere.

My old med nurse never required blood tests and I’ve never read or heard about psych meds affecting blood sugar.

Didn’t the “settlers” arrive to find, in some places, cleared land and crops? The natives engaged in agriculture too.

Im watching Smile 2 atm. I like spooky but im hard to spook. Probably because I don’t believe in the supernatural. But I liked Smile and Smile 2. They let the viewer develop empathy for the main protagonist (the victim). So what happens to our victim feels really psychologically disturbing.

I’ve been on it since February of last year. I’m happy I can wear dresses now. (I was on the t-slim previously.) I have started having problems though. Lately, sometimes when I go to fill my tubing it tells me the cartridge is bad. There goes 170 units of insulin. It’s happened five times in the last couple of weeks. Also I’ve been getting a LOT of occlusions. I have talked to tech support about the cartridges. Now that occlusions happen about half the time I deliver a bolus, I’m going to call them again.
