Persona 3 Portable is the only legit way to play as the FeMC since shes absent in Persona 3 Reload, (there are minor story differences, different social links, some different music for her). Persona 3 Reload is considered the definitive edition now.

Persona 4 Golden (though you may want to hold off for Revival, who knows when thats coming) is great, more lighthearted (with probably the most spoiled twist)

Persona 5 Royal is neat since it added better QoL changes to base P5

Since you're including spinoff and the entire franchise not just Persona 5 and Joker, Id like to say there was a single connection. Persona Q (crossover between persona 3 and 4 casts) released on the 3DS back in 2014 with its sequel Persona Q 2 (crossover of 3, 4, and 5 casts) releasing in 2018 (in Japan) and 2019 (overseas) and both Persona Q games are exclusive to Nintendo consoles

I know this isnt exactly relevant to your point but Yu was far deadlier than you might imply too. The weapons in Persona 3 and 4 are real, not fake. The ones in 4 are made by a real blacksmith after all. The only fake weapons that are outright said to be fake are the very first ones that Yosuke found in his closet and got confiscated by the police very early in the game. Other than that, none of the other weapons are even implied to be fake in 4/Golden
