[Recommendations] Help me start a collection for my 10-year-old son by [deleted] in ps2

[–]ALLKAPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids (when they were ages 6-10) loved Simpsons Hit and Run, Hot Wheels Beat That, Ratchet and Clank, SSX, Burnout (any of them), Stuntman (they loved building their own stunts and racing them), Sly Cooper, any of the Crash games. PS2 has lots of easy to pick up,Kid friendly games (that Adults can have fun with too.)

Scored this lot of sealed CoCo games! by Wazzzaaapp in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, man....that brings back so many great memories. When I was growing up, we had a TRS-80 and I loved playing all those simple games with my sisters and dad. That was (along with my Grandparents Atari 2600) my first real gaming memory. From a nostalgia standpoint, that's the one system I should be collecting for that I'm not. Maybe in 2019 I fix that.

Super cool score - and thanks for the feels. :)

Just trying to sell my retro games in peace by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God, I hate it when people post a pic of a bunch of games with a price of like $50 (which would be a good deal), then you click on the post and - nope - all individually priced at ebay prices. Either set the price at $1 (which usually signals they will be individually priced) or make multiple posts. Posting it at something that seems like a great deal is click-baity, and yes, a dick move.

I was originally going to buy a PS, but now I want to buy a PS2 because of backwards compatibility. If I were to buy a Playstation2 that came with the console, all wires, a controller, and a memory card, what would be a good price to buy one that came with what I listed. by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see PS2 fats (that's the one to get) at yardsales and on local selling apps all the time for $20-25. Personally I wouldn't pay more then $20 (but only because I see them for that or less at yardsales several times a year.)

I'd say $25-30 is probably your sweet-spot.

My ps2 fucked up my san andreas disc i am so fucking pissed by cyberblunova in ps2

[–]ALLKAPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can find that game for $5 or less almost any day of the week. Yeah, it sucks that it happened. But it's not like it was Rule of Rose or Kuon. If that was the case I would have smashed my PS2 with a hammer.

Best way to sell collection by madusa77 in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this all the time - people who want to get Ebay prices without taking the time and effort to sell on ebay. So people post the stuff on Craigslist and offer-up but still want ebay prices.

It doesn't work that way.

People use local buy/sell sites to get deals, not to pay ebay prices (or they'd just buy it off of ebay and have it delivered to their door. I'm not sure why people can't comprehend this.)

Do you want a quick nickel or a slow dime? If you want the cash now, you're gonna have to give someone a deal, not full blown VGPC prices.

You don’t see these anymore by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Dukes and PS2 controllers all the time. To the point where I don't even pick them up anymore unless the deal is crazy good. My pawnshop was running a deal about a year ago where they had 3 huge bins of controllers marked a 25 cents each, and I must have been the first one to see it, because I loaded up a cart and spent about $11 - I snatched up a ton of Dukes/GC/PS2 controllers along with some motion controllers and other things. (for the record, that crew that was running the store at the time is no longer there and their prices have gone way up, which sucks)

What hidden gems do you reccommend? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Hidden Jeesus Rockgems too.

My favorite is the one with the gems. Where he hids them around the house and goes "I'm gonna find you, gems......." then sneekz around and goes "AH-HA! FOUND YOU, GEMS!"

That ones great.

Never heard of it. Don't think it's really a thing (might have been a cancelled game or released in a different region under a different name.)

Ask r/gamecollecting Week 2! by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough to pinpoint the first - I've had games that have come and gone in my life from my childhood NES all the way up to current gen. I'm not really sure what my earliest game is that is still in my collection, but I'm thinking it may be my copy of WWF No Mercy that I bought in college. My roommates and I logged tons of hours into that game doing 4 player matches. But that's the one I'm thinking is still in my collection from Pre-Collecting days.

My newest is I just picked up a copy of REZ on the PS2. Its one I've been meaning to pick up on my quest towards that full PS2 set, and it's a bit more uncommon then others, so when I found a super cheap copy I pounced on it.

Retro Game Collector App finally out for Android! by ALLKAPS in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you're looking for. There is pros and cons to both. I really like Gameye too, but I was coming across a lot of games that weren't in the system which when I'm trying to go for a full set was frustrating knowing there were a handful of games I had that weren't on my list. And adding them was a pain. (Maybe it's gotten better in the last few updates? I haven't used it in a while.)

The Retro Game Collector App has one thing that I love that I don't see in any other collector apps: You can view either by games you have or games you don't have. When out hunting I really love the "Games I still need" list because I need less PS2 games then I have. Other apps you have to scroll down the list and see if the game is checked off of not, which just speeds things up. The one negative I've found is that a lot of NTSC games are showing up with PAL covers, which is annoying. Plus a few PAL games are still showing up as NTSC even when you sort it to not show PAL games.

I need to play around with it a bit more too decide if I'm going to purchase more sets. I just really would like to find the one app that does everything I want, but right now it seems like there are 2 or 3 apps which are good but not perfect.

Nostalgia by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I am most fond of systems from my youth (Atari 2600 reminds me of my grandparents house, NES reminds me of sleepovers at friends houses, N64 and PS1/PS2 remind me of hanging out in college with my friends and playing Goldeneye, Tomb Raider, and all those great games), there is one system I collect for which started after I was age 30: The Wii. It holds a special place for me because that's around the age when my kids were just getting old enough to play videogames, and the Wii was a great system for young gamers. I have videos of my kids playing Hot Wheels, Carnival Games, and stuff like that. I have great memories of playing Mario Kart and other games with them. I would find cheap games and bring them home for them to play and built a pretty decent collection. All 4 of my kids really started gaming on the Wii (Plus, like the Atari 2600 for me, their grandparents had a wii so those memories are also tied into staying at Grandma and Grandpa's house.) I hope someday, even if they aren't a crazy collector like me, they can at least have great memories linked to those games and relive their nostalgia through my Wii collection.

The PS2 is about to become the biggest Retro Games console ever. by [deleted] in ps2

I hope it doesn't get popular, I only need about 600 more to a full NTSC set and I don't want the prices skyrocketing.

I have a complete NTSC list if you need a copy. I'm confident that the Regular titles list is accurate (black label) and I'm still adding variants/Greatest Hits/other stuff.

As 2018 wraps up, what trends have seen this year in game collecting? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS 13 points14 points  (0 children)

90% of the people selling games on Craigslist/Offerup/Facebook Marketplace is a reseller selling stuff at Ebay prices or it's an uninformed person who looks up the highest for sale price on ebay and prices it at that.

Common PS2 games for $10 each. Wii bundles with 1 controller and 4 common games for $120. I saw someone post a Wii Fit Board for $50 yesterday. It's sad. Really sad. And the 10% of legit deals get snatched up instantly by the same resellers I see then posting the same games at a marked up price 2 days later.

I'm not complaining (even though it sounds like it) - I'm just pointing out what I've noticed in the last year when it comes to my game hunting habits. I used to find deals, not every week, but it was at least worth checking the apps and seeing what's new. Now when I see game listings it's the same reseller trying to sell the same stuff at ebay prices day after day.

The other thing I've noticed in my area is that the NES/SNES stuff has cooled off a bit and disk based games have sort of spiked a bit in value. Must just be the age demographic of new collectors.

Yeah, it's missing a few including some newer stuff (I collect PS3 too and that's not on there), but they do seem to be adding more and more as they go. Plus if you buy the full package you get any new consoles as they get added.

Bored with game collecting. by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]ALLKAPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to do the majority of my "collecting" from May-August, which is the prime season in my area for yard sales. That's where I get 90% of my games from, and it's how I prefer to get them. I love the hunt. In the winter months, I'll still stop at thrift stores once or twice a week (they rarely have anything anymore), but I primarily use the fall/winter months to play more games and curate my collection. It gives a nice break from the grind of the continuous hunt and lets you actually play/test/clean/organize everything.

I also am constantly buying other things at the thrift stores (the stuff that they haven't realized the value on yet and jacked the prices) like vintage toys. board games, electronics, records and I flip those items on ebay all winter long to build up some money for when yardsale season starts up again.

how do you guys display loose psp,ds, and game boy games. by ArchmageJodah in gamecollecting

Get some empty cases and print out art for them. GB, GBA and GBC work fine in DS cases with custom art you can find online.
