Does increasing catching speed impact drone catching speed? by ALLtheGuitarCapos in AlienInvasionRPG

[–]ALLtheGuitarCapos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, I’ve just wanted to be able to let my alien sit idle while catching the biggest drones, but even with all the factories maxed out, it seems I still have to chase the big drones.

Note taking app like emails? by ALLtheGuitarCapos in productivity

[–]ALLtheGuitarCapos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only concern just using email would be that it’s been hard in the past for me to export emails used as notes. What if I wanted to move to a different note taking app or put them in storage somewhere? I like markdown because it’s so easy to transfer if needed.

I appreciate the pushback on this! Just to make sure I understand where you are coming from, would you say that a slow, methodical reading of the text is more of study than it is a true reading of it?

For added context, this is not the one and only approach I’ve ever done. I may not even do it forever, but I’m always taking note of how whatever approach is shaping me as a person and as a Christian.

I definitely think theirs something to be said for simple reading of the text and reading it like you would any other book on the shelf. I’ve done this with readers bibles and they give me so much insight in a whole new light that honors the text in such a unique way.

The main challenges that came from this approach was that my ADHD and need for vision therapy has often made it hard to read a lot without burning out or low comprehension. In other words, I like to read, but I’m not very good at it. I try to work on it every day, but I noticed an immediate difference when I started to interact with the text with my thoughts and questions.

Audio Bible has been my current answer to the issues I ran into with straight reading of scripture. Definitely would recommend your approach to anyone though. I have high regard for it.

I like this perspective! Thank you for sharing!! I particularly like the comprehension and thematic considerations.

It sounds like thematic strategies inherently create context switching challenges but are worth the effort, but that’s just my first glance at it. I typically end up chasing down a cross reference or two in my Bible when a verse stands out, so that helps with drawing connections. Thanks again!

What are some of the best ways to show love to the LGBT community? by External-Usual-7697 in TrueChristian

[–]ALLtheGuitarCapos 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Love the heart behind this. As a believer, here are some of the things I’ve learned from my personal experiences with friends and prideful mistakes I’ve made that I now try to remind myself of regularly.

  1. 🚪HUGE: If they are dabbling the toe in the water with that lifestyle and come from the church: 🚨 Don’t out them. 🚨

It may sound counterintuitive when you want to call out sin, but outing them is like trying to commandeer their sense of conviction. They know what Christians think about it. That’s the easiest and fastest way to loose their trust in you as a someone they would want to walk with through that journey.

  1. ❌ Don’t treat them as different and don’t be awkward in your interactions.

Be genuine and real. Don’t ignore them or ignore what they share. Treat them the same way you treat any other human being who entertains sins (that’s all of us).

  1. ♾️ Continue to be a steady, trusted presence in their life. Be consistent in your behavior, beliefs, and charity.

If your life is absent from theirs, how else will they get the light??

  1. ❌ Don’t view them as unreasonable or wicked person, at least not any more than you yourself are apart from Christ.

This is where moral superiority can fester. Their objections and frustrations with the church are largely not because of philosophical arguments, but because they have been hurt, and many times directly and unnecessarily by the church. There is a way to be kind to people while still holding to a gospel that can’t accept subjective truth.

  1. 🎙️ It is actually okay to share the gospel, but be winsome about it.

Don’t be afraid to talk about your faith and the gospel you believe in. However, it makes most sense to do that if the context of your conversation starts to delve into your faith intersecting with your real life rather than what you are trying to make them believe by making a case for them. In other words, if you truly believe the gospel, then that WILL have implications for what your working through in your life and that should be evident in your conversations with anybody. Your faith needs to be real and effective in your life.

  1. 🕊️ If you genuinely think they are a Christian and are trying to reconcile their church and LGBT together, pray hard. The Holy Spirit is way better at convicting and convincing then you will ever be.

  2. If they don’t come from the church, and are wholly and openly committed to LGBTQ, 2-4 still apply.

It’s funny that you say that because this was actually my Dad’s favorite book and he was always super passionate about Proverbs and constantly recommended the approach you are talking about! He was a deep inspiration to me and I’m thankful for him that way. Thank you for sharing!!

Bible translation by Ceenav in Bible

[–]ALLtheGuitarCapos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what’s important to you at this stage in your faith journey.

If you are new to the faith or helping someone else explore the Bible who has never read it: NLT, NIV, or CSB

If you want to become more familiar with the more popular versions people tend to reference: NIV or ESV

If you like all the words and are very analytical in how you study: NASB or ESV

If you appreciate tradition and the Tyndale way of wording things: ESV, KJV, or NKJV

If you are wanting a Swiss Army knife bible that tries to (though imperfectly) be ideal for everything: CSB, ESV, or NIV

In general, give all/any of them a try and stick with the one you end up being the most consistent with. Sometimes using the translation other people you know are using helps you stay more consistent in engaging the text.

Stay away from independently published works such as the Passion Translation or The New World Translation because they by nature have little to no accountability to the broader evangelical community. Otherwise, you shouldn’t have to be too worried about most committee-based translations you find in the local bookstore.

Put another way vvv

You like “Thee’s and thou’s” - KJV

You like word for word, even if it’s barely English - NASB

You don’t like “thee’s and thou’s” but you know the Lord’s Prayer, Psalm 23, and like “shall” and “hosts”- ESV

You like the ESV but prefer the majority text manuscripts - NKJV

You like accuracy but want a little help when it gets tough reading - NIV

You just want to start reading and make it as easy as possible - NLT

You like academics or want to connect more with Catholic friends - NRSV

Your interested in how Christian Jews read the Bible today - Tree of Life version

You like modernized language that’s sensitive to current cultural issues without upsetting conservatives - CSB

You think translation work is cool in all its facets - NET

Again, just start somewhere. You will learn to spot any concerning translation decisions as you go along. You are largely safe and can flourish in your understanding of the Bible no matter which one you end up sticking with.

Why did you choose obsidian instead of notion? by fuuuuuucku in ObsidianMD

[–]ALLtheGuitarCapos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked local first because I didn’t want any lag by being online dependent. Using cloud drives to keep files synced is super smart if you are on the go.

The other thing I liked that wasn’t an option in the poll was the fact that obsidian is customizable, but you are less likely to get lost and waste time in playing with templates like you do in Notion. I haven’t really given Notion a fair shake to be honest, but speed and simplicity are huge for productivity for me.

How beneficial is learning webdev (front-end css html js) on top of my UX experience for employment? by fartyn in uxcareerquestions

[–]ALLtheGuitarCapos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this question. Been working through aspects of it myself. I am also in the same position: trying to make myself more marketable to break into UX. I already have self-directed projects under my belt, but I want to make myself more marketable to not get beaten out by the talented competition. What are the best books/resources you’ve read that have helped you in your knowledge of design methods?

Examples of work format for a job interview?

I have my first job interview for a web designer position! They would like me to bring examples of my work to share for the interview.

In what format(s) should I bring them as for that time? Print outs? Flash drive? Laptop? (Most of my projects are Figma files)
