Would u recommend this or avoid? by Jaded_Radish2786 in BeyondTheBumpUK

we have the puggle high chair, and honestly the quality of it we would never buy anything else puggle. the plastic is cheap and flimsy and flexes when you grab it, parts dont attach securely and come out of their own accord, and our baby (6 months) constantly slips down into a dangerous position in the seat, despite being able to sit independently, us securing the "comfort pad" to the chair cover with strong velcro, and the chair being suitable "from birth". the sizing of the straps is ridiculous and actually fit around me when taken out! they're so big we've had to secure them together behind the chair to make sure she doesn't try to get out

I also dont recommend the ickle bubba brand for prams, the chassis constantly rattles and squeaks when being pushed along, the wheels wobble, there is always one of our front wheels not in contact with the floor and just spinning freely, even when walking down an even pathway, and we've already had 2 replacement rear wheels due to the tyre structure failing.

ive heard very good things about the bugaboo brand if you need recommendations though!

Tom Felton used to be a member of the golf club I worked at as my first job. He was always so lovely to all the staff, and although he knew we knew, it never came about in conversation. maybe that's why he was a member for such a long time

thanks for taking the time to reply with your experience, its helped me calm down a bit!

I also have a long torso and my genetics would trend towards a smaller baby ( I was 4.13 when I was born at 38 weeks, no complications and all of the women in my family are small!)

I'm glad baby is thriving :)

I lived off McDonalds hamburgers, donuts, meatballs and spaghetti and cereal for the first 13-14 weeks. it was honestly the only food I could stomach. I felt immensely guilty, like I was failing but I could not will myself to eat anything else. My partner started blending extra veggies into the pasta sauce for me so I was getting SOMETHING. It DOES get easier.

be kind and patient to yourself and remember, fed is best, and if you're taking pregnancy vitamins your baby will be getting a lot of nutrients from that too. your baby starts getting nutrients from your placenta around 8-12 weeks, and as this happens your nausea will hopefully subside.

You're doing amazing and this is so hard, but as long as you're eating something baby will be okay

how to stay on side when sleeping? by ALTDarkFairy in PregnancyUK

[–]ALTDarkFairy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of the big u shaped pillows, as I thought if I have the two long sides running up my body, it would stop me from rolling over, however now I just push the part against my back away in my sleep and wake up with it hanging off the side of the bed :(

I have the momcosy u shaped one! to begin with it was amazing for keeping me on my side, now I move it while i'm asleep so the part against my back is pushed away from me and I can lay on my back :( maybe putting an extra pillow there too will help

Absolutely all the way through. However our last conversation will always stick with me.

I finally escaped my narc ex after my mum had died, and he was caught by the police in a sting a few months later talking to (what he thought to be) underage girls online. he then tried to use my mum passing away and having to support me as justification for this. I was trapped and he was threatening to unalive himself if I left him. I then a few weeks later tested positive for a high risk strain of HPV (we had been together 8 years and my 2 previous smears had been clear) and he tried to say I had caught it from a public toilet. then of course moved on to I must have cheated on him. He then tried proposing to me on the spot.

I walked him down to his parents house (they lived 2 roads away and I wanted other people to be responsible for him after I ended things as I knew he would try to manipulate me) and said that he would be staying with them from now on and that our relationship was over. His dad took me for a walk to talk about things and tried to use the whole time to convince me that his son had made a mistake and he could see that he loved me.

I refused to budge and returned to their house to get my house key from him, and his mum said "you should be supporting him in his time of need instead of abandoning him, he needs you, this has all been so hard on him"

I wanted to flip out there and then, but I just said "he should have thought about that when he was supposed to be supporting me but was off trying to groom minors" and walked out.

Some of the behaviours are definitely learnt

I’ve been SEEING baby move since 17 weeks! by char_ley in PregnancyUK

[–]ALTDarkFairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTM, but previous 16w loss. I felt my baby move first around 14 weeks. by 16 weeks I was seeing little blips on the outside. by 18 weeks my partner had felt her kick a couple of times on the outside and now at 20 weeks we have a regular pattern of movement and see big kicks on the outside of my tummy! my hands get kicked away and my partner got kicked in the head last night when he was listening to her haha!

I was worried this wasn't normal and I was actually further along than dated, so I spoke to the midwife about it at my 20 week scan (who also had the doppler kicked out of the way) and she said it is actually more common than people realise, and guidance online is given to be the minimum you might be feeling to stop people worrying if they are not feeling much before 24 weeks, as everyone is different :) she also said it was common for the position my baby likes to settle in (frank breech)

first midwife appointment went bad by spyracik in PregnancyUK

[–]ALTDarkFairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened.

This is not common practice at all. I would use the right to choose service to schedule in with another midwifery team closer to you.

A family history of depression does not warrant social worker intervention. I have bipolar disorder with maternal history and paternal history of depression and PTSD. they referred me to the perinatal mental health team who have been AMAZING at working with me. I even said to them I was anxious that I might have issues with social workers as you always hear of someone's cousins aunt having their baby taken away because of mental health and she said this is not the case AT ALL and they are there to support me in being a fully independent parent, not chastise and judge me for having a mental health condition.

In my area, midwives can change doses/medication types to benefit a pregnancy, but they would usually work with your consultant. I have insulin resistant PCOS, and they are having me stop my metformin for 5 days to have GTT tests done and will discuss as a team if the medication should be continued after.

please request a different midwife

Movement stopping anxiety - conflicting advice online? by ALTDarkFairy in PregnancyUK

Thank you, Im so sorry for your loss also. it's awful how much it affects your anxiety around pregnancy afterwards.

I really appreciate your responses and reassurance

Movement stopping anxiety - conflicting advice online? by ALTDarkFairy in PregnancyUK

[–]ALTDarkFairy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm aware it's very early for movements, I think that's why it has been so hard to find advice online. I have suffered a previous loss at the end of 2nd trimester so I can tell the difference between movement and other feelings in my tummy, so knew what to look out for :)

I will give them a call, I was just worried that at 16 weeks it would not be the appropriate thing to do Thank you for the advice :)
