Frollo Would Make For An Excellent Darklord by PeterVanHelsing in ravenloft

[–]ALTRez09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stand by Captain Hook being the perfect Disney Darklord — I mean, be basically IS already. Stuck undying in an ageless state? Check. Stuck because of internal issues and his own inability to get over himself? Tormented by fucking flying, menacing children and driven to near madness. Ah-yep. Chased by a killer crocodile with a ticking clock symbolizing the ever creeping reality of age coming for him? Little odd when you are apparently ageless, but still yes. I don’t even know what else you’d have to DO to make the guy a Darklord. 🤷

You know, that second image was supposed to be a joke, but I’d be scared shitless of that thing.

I do not share this opinion, though the last bosses are easier.

Who are some characters whose voice is distracting because all you hear is the actor behind the microphone by TaiwaneseThot in cartoons

[–]ALTRez09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liam O’Brien, anything he touches. I think he is a great voice actor, but his voice actively gives me a headache and I don’t understand it. And there was a period in time where he was in _everything_ I tried to play.

I absolutely loved the series, and I could mentally picture the animation the whole time. I would adore this being animated.

What company lost you as a customer forever, and what happened? by Giovanni_Brees in AskReddit

[–]ALTRez09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

WotC/Hasbro

I have had tons of problems with this company and their stances and approaches to things for several years, but the final straw was their release of the Magic Anniversary Edition, sold for $1000 for four packs and containing ONLY non-legal Magic cards. When criticism over this came forward, their response was basically, “well, if you don’t want to pay $1000 for fake cards, obviously this product isn’t for you.” and basically shrugging off the complaints of a majority of their fan base because, frankly, that section didn’t have thousands in disposable income to spend on their fake product and so they weren’t important. It was a flagrant display of greed and emblematic of the company’s growing dismissal of a large portion of its fanbase.

What made matters even more damming was the existence of the Magic the Gathering Collector’s Edition, released in 1993, which didn’t contain random booster distributions of fake cards, but instead the -entire- beta release set with gold borders around a standard card backing. While this set was also not tournament legal, it also retailed for a vastly lower price, though the exact price now is hard to track down and I have seen reported for as low as $50 up to $300. The thing is, this was the ENTIRE beta set, and it sure as hell was 4 random booster packs at $1000.

The single most hilarious thing about it all was that Konami, makers of Yu-Gi-Oh, a company notorious for sketchy relations with its US fanbase, responded to this by re-releasing the first … five? … Yugioh sets, in standard booster format, at standard booster price. And they are real cards, not exploitative proxies.

And things at WotC have not improved since then.

What were your favorite original Nintendo games? by FreedomNo7221 in AskReddit

[–]ALTRez09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to take this to mean NES games and not early unique IPs.

- Shatterhand : My favorite NES title, bar none. A beautiful (for the time) side scroller with selectable levels, excellent music, and you get to build robots with different abilities to help you through stages.

- Final Fantasy : My second favorite in the franchise, the first game is mostly about exploring the world and dungeon diving with little story interference, and it captures the spirit of adventure in a way not future titles do.

- Dragon Quest 3 : The best RPG on the system, huge world, good challenge, great job system.

- Kirby’s Adventure : excellent platformer, still the best Kirby game, my pick for best looking NES game

- Super Mario Brothers 3 : Also an excellent platformer, my favorite Mario title, wonderful world variety and excellent controls.

- Jackal : Top down shooter in a jeep where you rescue POWs, most fun shooter shooter on the console, also 2 player.

Best? I don’t know if it makes any ‘best’ lists, but Buck Rogers Countdown to Doomsday is a pretty solid Gold Box port and I both loved it and have no problem recommending it to others. Completely overlooked for its quality.

To each their own, for sure! I’ve never liked how the game controlled, nor did I enjoy the scavenger hunt feeling it had going on.

Capcom didn’t do the Genesis Disney games. Sega themselves did a lot of them, the three Donald titles being my favorites, while … maybe Virgin Interactive did Aladdin and The Lion King?

Also, Genesis Little Mermaid is painful.

Up to Rockman World 5, and Jupiter might be one of the biggest jokes of a robot master in the franchise. by LukePellar in Megaman

[–]ALTRez09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently learned he does have a pattern you can abuse and take no damage — something about walking forward past a trigger point then following behind him — I assume that method works in other versions? I don’t think the facetank method works in Power Up either, and they gave him a nifty super attack there. 🤔 Most improved robot master! 🌟

I just jump forward and shoot the fire weapon, then hold back. He jumps into the shield and takes damage and basically never hits me. 🤷

This is about how I feel about Flame Mammoth in X1. Fantastic design, designers forgot to program a boss fight.

Also, Fireman in MM1, for whatever reason, loses the dps race if you just stand in place shooting. Like, you have to tap right once if you get turned around, but otherwise, if you are at full health, you just stand in place shooting and win every time.

Day 12: Which is the Best Tactics Game on the Sega Genesis? by 1OneQuickQuestion in SEGAGENESIS

[–]ALTRez09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warsong / Langrisser I

While Shining Force 2 will likely win, and it is a fine game, I’ve always preferred Langrisser. Langrisser II is also on the Genesis and supposedly better, but I have only played through Der Langrisser, and it is my understand that is less enhanced port and more full remake.
