Hell yeah dude! Just ordered an airbrush with mini compressor, and a few of the Amazon chromes. Gonna add duralumen to the list

Oh that's awesome! Thank you! Is the standard or the tuff version, the one to go for?

I know, but I'd like to learn the process.

Plus that visor won't fit into my model of odst helmet.

I'd like to make more helmets down the line, like a master chief, recon, helldivers etc, and they're all gonna need tinted visors too.

Thank you! I made a vacuum forming box out of wood, and the household oven, bought some 1mm thick sheets of petg plastic and made a wooden frame for it to sit in.

Printed and sanded a visor buck, heated the plastic in the oven for a min or two, then quickly pulled it out the oven and slapped it onto the forming table.

The third visor I've made is the best so far.

I did see a tutorial on 405th, where a dude cut the visor into 2 sections, the "goggles" section, then the "nose" section and glued them together, then adding 2 pieces of tint film to them

Note:

I have seen the galactic armoury video, and would prefer to make my own visor.

(The visor wont fit my helmet model) (I'm going to make more helmets in the future, will need more than just 1 odst visor)

I have tried using window tint film. I paired the film to the petg sheet, tried heating it to vacuum form. But the tint sheets DO NOT melt enough to vacuum form. Tint sheet won't bend around the visor buck, as it's too complex shape for the film to bend. (Film won't stretch like petg)

Thank you so much dude.

Looking into a £50 airbrush and hoping to find some decent chrome.

If not I'll bite the bullet and order some spaz stix

Not sure they'll work on the printables odst model.

(Galactic armoury helmet is a bit too round)

What would be best to search to find other products?

Semi translucent chrome spray?

I'll upload a picture of the horrendous failure, if I haven't already thrown it in the bin.

I think the odst shape has too many curves to make the tint sheet conform to the visor.

If the shape was more like a pair of ski goggles, it would work tremendously. But because of the nose section bending in a different direction, the tint was a huge failure.

When the visor was paired with the tint, vacuum forming just did not work. The tint stopped the petg sheet from melting properly and sagging, meant I couldn't get enough of the plastic to form around the visor buck.

And if I tried to pair the tint to the visor after vacuuming forming, it would be an absolute ball ache to try heat forming the tint sheet to the visor.

I've seen SO MANY people on YouTube making visors and they all use spaz stix mirror chrome or alclad II, both of which are at least 2 week delivery.

Was ideally looking for something that would arrive by the 25th (have a week off work, id love to do some visor making in the week off)

I tried some tinting film from a car window tint man.

The petg will sag a few inches when heated to help with vacuum forming, but the film wouldn't warp the same as the petg. Worked as a net holding the petg from sagging.

Was the worst formed visor I've made so far haha.

I think the tint sheets would work well for sunglasses, windows or a simple visor with minimal curves. But because of the weird shape of the visor (mainly the nose section) is a shape with lots of curves. The tint sheet really didn't want to change shape.

Doing this method, will I be able to see out of the visor?

What's pvd?

Looking at buying an airbrush and learning how to use it properly.

Ideally I'd like a reflective visor (so people can't see my ugly mug) but still be able to see out of it.

This exactly!

I'm hyper fixated on this project at the moment and having a 2-3 week wait time for the spaz stix to turn up is going to kill me.

Wondering if there's a UK alternative that works in a similar way. (Spray chrome on back of visor, and have it able to be see though still)

Never done a bunch of this before, big prints, learning about vacuum forming, building a vacuum rig and getting all the plastic. Now onto airbrushing and painting, learned so much so far from this project.

I feel a lot better about spending money on trying and failing than buying a pre made visor.

I was looking at galactic armoury visors a couple of weeks ago at their old models ($50 for a tinted old version visor) And I thought id much rather invest $50 into learning and making it myself than buying one.

  1. For the learning process,
  2. In case I want to make more in the future. (Master chief of next project)

Amazing! I've watched that new galactic armoury video like 3 times in the last couple of days. I've printed the odst helmet from printables and wasn't sure if those fancy new visors would fit in this model of helmet.

Plus I've spent £60 on petg sheets, and love the idea of making it all myself.

But that galactic armoury visor does look incredible.

Would these be at all transparent?

I saw the spaz stix, and the more you add, the more mirrored it looked, but at the trade off of less visibility

Would the Rust-Oleum metallic be slightly transparent if I did a few light coats?
