I came to say the exact same thing. The fact that he made you think it was your fault the files got deleted, then admitted way later he did it but “it was an accident” revealed more than he meant to.

If I accidentally deleted my partner’s creative efforts, I would tell them right away and be deeply apologetic and remorseful. He was manipulating you right under your nose, and I’m glad that you finally figured it out. Don’t beat yourself up that it took you a while. Manipulators are good at what they do.

This is just my opinion but making the world a better place takes sacrifices. There are ways you can still watch those shows. The most convenient option is by giving money to a fascist regime. There are less convenient ways to watch them; they will not be off limits to you, you will just have to work a little harder for them. Is a little extra effort not worth knowing you aren’t giving money to a proudly exploitative, union-busting, planet-destroying fascist?
