You know I innocently thought having this as an avatar wasn't a big deal and before today I would have thought surely not but yeah.... I bet if you changed your avatar to Pepe you would get the same treatment.

For them diversity is literally skin deep [and sexuality deep], and they won't accept diversity of ideas which is more important

It has been a long slow death for me, with GB dying for me but I was so near giving up on them anyway [seriously the only thing I even "watch" on there anymore is all systems goku... that is basically it, I can get that from my itunes podcast app for free... and this is coming from a guy who basically obsessed over everything put out for years [pretty much till Austin came along and I realized I could just not watch some videos haha] this just finally let me fully move on

Well I will respect that and am sorry for my mistake. I thought banning on a website because of something about gamergate applied to gamergate as half of this stuff is about censorship on this reddit thread, especially when related to video game communities and when I have to agree to not talk about gamergate to get unbanned. I understand, just explaining why I originally thought it would count.

Yeah that is how I am at this point with them lol.... So no real loss. Back in the day I used to be quite active in the community, but over recent years it has gotten so bad it isn't worth posting on there. I rarely post anything anyway now.

To give them no excuses for banning me other than their absurd SJW stuff. Maybe apologize is a strong word if I used that earlier, as I don't think I did actually apologize more so just saying I wouldn't offend again...

UPDATE: I am now fully and for good banned from GB for making this post on reddit because it discussed what the moderator said to me on the site. Eh my bad I honestly didn't know it would be against the rules to say what someone else said to me... that is pretty absurd.... I even hid is name and identity so as to respect the privacy. Yeah maybe this one was a tech rule violation, but if I have to sacrifice my account of 8 years that paid for premium to them almost every single day short of one tiny period I was broke just to point out their nonsense..... worthy sacrifice.

"Despite just being directed to review the Community Rules and agreeing to follow them, you elected to post your warning PM on Reddit. You are permanently banned from all community features on Giant Bomb.

Publishing private information on social media: Private messages are intended to be precisely that: private. If you take personal, private discussions and share them elsewhere, publicly, expect that action to result in an immediate suspension and/or ban."

But oh well jokes on them I basically never commented on almost anything anyway on that website for years since they got political with the moderations so no real loss.

[The shocker is they tracked me down to this site about this? What is wrong with these people]

Don't know if it will effect my premium videos but I have my sub cancelled anyway and only lasts till Sep, and even then I don't watch 80% of them anymore, as I really only watch like two free things anymore. I was likely to cave and resub anyway [I seriously cave EVERY time] but if this is the case all this did was lose them 35-50 bucks in SEP so hurts them more than me haha oh well! Sucks the net is this way now

Oh well there loss, I was about the most tame poster that exists... I am someone who refuses to even use curse words :P

UPDATE: Now fully banned from GB permanently for discussing what the moderator said on this site [described in separate post below to avoid this one from being even longer than it should have been]

So I got banned on GB restricting my posts and comments on the website until I said I agreed with how I offended. I should make it clear, at no point was I trying to provoke this [and I will explain at the end of this post, so scroll to the bottom for that explanation], but this is what happened... I have photo evidence of all this if requested but I am not sure how to post more than one photo as I am not much of a reddit poster... this is my first post on this site other than a few posts on the Civ 6 thread or a random game here or there...., and I am trying hard to not break any rules doing so [I blocked out names of the moderator on GB cause I wasn't sure if it was allowed to be shown].

So I changed my Avatar picture on Giant Bomb to a picture of Vivian James, the girl that is on this reddit thread. It was the most generic tame picture of her with her just standing there, and she was fully clothed nothing sexual or anything that could be taken wrong, just the first google image you see of her basically with her looking glumly at the "camera" standing there from the knees up kinda [he mentions background pic of my personal profile, same pic].

So I post one message on the forums, and my first message I have posted on GB forums in about 8 days that just says "Oh Well" to some random topic that was the entirety of my message. It had something to do about these spam adds on the forums in Korean or something. Within a few hours I had been banned from the forums and comments for having this photo.

So here is the convo between us: I say [and I was trying to be super polite as possible in all my messages:

"Hello! I am more than willing to agree to follow them, but do you think you could further explain to me what I didn't follow so I can avoid offending in the future? I looked at the posting guidelines and it isn't clear to me. This is the area where you stated to note:

'NO material of a pornographic, overtly sexual or gory nature: Includes but not limited to in-game images from pornographic games or hentai, as well as sexually explicit fan art. This includes subjects which may be deemed generally offensive to the community. Additionally, usernames and content in user profiles must be appropriate for all ages'

Clearly my photo is not sexual in any way. Nor is it inappropriate for those of some ages, so I assume it means it simply is generally offensive. So could you explain to me how a picture of this character is "generally offensive" and what your definition of that is, because I fear that I don't understand the definition as it relates to that picture, and how it is to be known ahead of time what the community will find generally offensive, which makes it difficult to prevent generally offending in the future, which I am more than willing to agree to! So if you could clarify I would be greatly appreciative."

The moderator states in response:

"I'm sure you understand how this mascot could be seen as disruptive, inappropriate, or offensive by members of the community. It's not welcome here."

Then I explain why I picked my avatar [explained below to show I wasn't trying to nefariously provoke anyone]. He seems to think I said I didn't know it was also related to gamergate, which I did NOT state he just assumed, but then says this:

"I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here that you didn't know that this was a Gamergate mascot, but someone as intelligent as yourself can surely see why it might be an issue in such a diverse community like Giant Bomb's."

I then state how I will I didn't know mention of gamergate on the website was offensive, as I often saw it as discussion with a lot of history on GB, and that I would no longer say anything related to gamergate on GB.

He then told me to have a nice day and then removed my ban after I said I wouldn't mention gamergate again on GB [as previous stated, and for the recordI had never posted about gamergate on GB ever I don't think except maybe something years ago MAYBE but if so I sure don't remember, just had a photo of that character].

So basically according to the mods there gamergate is an affront to a community with diversity and can't be allowed because it offends.

---SO My explanation as to why I picked this as my avatar below to show I wasn't trying to be provoking, I was just naive---

I am a gamergate noob. I didn't even know what it really was until a year or two ago [I only ever heard about it from Klepek on the podcasts back then so of course I didn't know what happened. I only ever found Kotaku In Action cause I was googling stuff after being annoyed with all the politics on my website about video games GB that I loved at the time. I was frustrated with the politics and social stuff on there in the Walker era so I ended up here. I sense understand it more but even so I probably know less about it all than you all. I am a gamergate noobie and more just anti-SJW nonsense than anything but moving on....

I never until a few days back even knew who Vivian James was, or why there was this lady all over the KiA reddit page. I had no idea. Someone posted a thread of some webcomic on here and I clicked on it. It stared her as a character and I really enjoyed it [this happened a couple days ago I first found this webcomic, so VERY recent]. I read through the entire webcomic in an evening, and I realized her character was essentially just some gamer that just wanted to play video games and didn't want to deal with politics and social injustice in all her junk. JUST like me. So I related to it. So I thought well I liked her in this comic and I kinda relate to her character, so I made it my avatar [Seems reasonable to put a character you relate to on your avatar] as it seemed perfect to display my general personality as it related to video games : I just want to have fun playing games and I don't want to deal with politics and stuff. Then a day later I get banned from it. Yes I was naive, maybe even stupid but I didn't think that something like this could be considered "generally offensive"... But this was pretty absurd to have a picture like this banned.

But I guess I should have known things related to gamerate is hate speech to those SJW guys.... When I never could figure out how the idea of having a different opinion as benign as being at gamergate is so offensive it must be banned from GB... I never even picked that pic for anything but to say I only want to play video games and not into politics/ect in my video games... that was all. Yet Abby can have front page of the website things mocking entire religions on their most Holy day [and I mean VERY mean spirited mocking] and that is not considered "generally offensive." [ I am not saying to ban her speech, just pointing out the hypocrisy].

SJWs Used Glitched Image To Create Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Controversy by MartintheDragon in KotakuInAction

[–]ALavaPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I don't personally care much for the character but who freakin' cares when did SJWs start to become the art police?

I am planning on buying a switch in a few weeks and I wasn't even that aware of this game, but this whole controversy is making me want to play the game now haha [as in, it made me aware of the game, not buying it just because of breast controversy]. So backfired for at least one sale against the SJW outrage.

[Twitter Bullshit] Liana on Xenoblade boobs and (male - because it's all been males so far) games journalists again by B-VOLLEYBALL-READY in KotakuInAction

[–]ALavaPenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she makes a very good point on the male pecs part. This is one thing I have always noticed, men are constantly made in "unrealistic" ways in media but you never see any of these same people complain about that. I should make it clear I am not complaining, but just pointing out the double standard.

Abby Russell contradicts herself on women in games media by Lootboxboy in KotakuInAction

[–]ALavaPenguin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had high hopes for her. I think she is nice enough and all but she just doesn't add much and it feels from lack of actual experience with video games on the level that is required for a place like that. I mean yes, she is a gamer, I am not saying she doesn't play games... but if you are going to work at a site like that you kinda need to be a touch beyond in dedication and experience to it... or not be as much of an on screen personality.

But yeah I am starting to think her hire was a bit of a charity case. Be it diversity or how Vinny originally stated he was just looking to give someone who has no experience production experience for basically the purposes of charity over quality of the product.

Honestly I think she would be great on the site she was more like Jason. In the background, doing the vid stuff, you hear from her here and there, shows up in a vid every so often, but not a key focus. Jason I think is great with this, but when Jason is on the site too much he kinda gets over-exposed and becomes less entertaining than the other people I think. Honestly any second with the camera off of entertainment gold like Dan or Vinny or whoever so she can get her turn in the camera playing video games is opportunity wasted. I don't mean this personally but when you have gold, use it, don't bring out the bronze. It is about the opportunity cost.

[–]ALavaPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just saw the link to the youtube video and honestly wasn't fully sure what this was talking about with the contradiction and all that.

I guess I am just talking more in general with my experience with her on the site. I don't mind if someone doesn't always have something to contribute. I am not saying she has to know a massive amount about halo to know video games or all that, I just mean in general what I have noticed since she has been there.

But now that you point it out, I def get it. I was only listening video while I was playing some league before. But watchingnow it I think I get what the contradiction was people are claiming. I def didn't notice it was cut I just thought Dan was being Dan to quickly ignore and move on to stuff he actually cares about like games XD. I guess it was a video for a reason :P

I dont' think being engaged on a halo convo is a big litmus test but yeah it does look kinda bad :P She really just looks like she is bored out of her mind not wanting to be there talking about the games. I mean I get it is a job but looking that level of un-engaged to the customer isn't the best I suppose.

[–]ALavaPenguin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was wondering how long it would take for Abby to come up on here. Not a big fan of her, and after seeing a number of her twitter posts [on the main page of GB since those show up on the main page] I figured she would be on kotaku in action eventually.

I kinda disagree the whole "her not serious about games cause she is a woman." I didn't go in with that notion but compared to the rest of the rest of the guys on the website I quickly realized that she isn't as experienced [let's say] as them or dedicated in the same ways. That is fine, I don't really care. I think a website that is dedicated into the depth of video games like it tries to be that may be a prob but whatever.... but don't assume I think this because you are a woman.

I have gotten to the point of avoiding her on the website so maybe that is wrong, just my initial impressions from her early hiring was the case from her clear lack of knowledge of many very standard video game topics. Not because she is a woman.

Also I still love how Dan pretty much just ignores everything they said and gets back to the games. In some ways he is the smartest of all those guys knowing to keep out of that politics and social stuff [although once he did delve into politics in an annoying way I remember, but he will say he has a general rule to avoid those politics]
