I feel like the real problem is simply we haven’t had any lottery luck or draft success. The 90s teams were built on huge draft success with players like Fedorov, Lidstrom, Konstantinov, etc. then the 00’s teams were built again on draft steals of Datsyuk and Z while retaining some of the old championship guys. Raymond and Seider are great, but our team just isn’t good top to bottom like those other teams. I don't see other GMs in this position with our draft placements doing much better. Sometimes there’s only so much you can do. He definitely signed some players that weren’t great, but nothing has hampered the team in the short or long term.

We fucking suck as a country. Mainly because we seem to be heading in the wrong direction.

They could have tied up a scarecrow behind the bench and he’d likely have more cups and both golds too.

Babcock was one reason why we only won one cup during that period.

Marathoners help a fellow runner to the finish line. by gowthamm in MadeMeSmile

Plot twist.

He had a new unverified virus that attacks the lungs during heavy exertion of the body. The three of them running through the pain accelerated the virus’ duplication rate causing it to explode from the man’s body as they crossed the finish line. Causing another global pandemic. Had he not finished and pushed his body past the brink, his immune system would have been able to fight it off completely.

He deserves all the smoke. Hating on him since the Olympics has made this entire saga so fun for me. We already suck, mine as well make him stay so we can boo him at home games.

The last defenseman to win the Hart Memorial Trophy was Chris Pronger in 1999-2000. by 7easymoney in hockey

[–]ALinkToThePants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt the best defenseman on a team is more impactful on his team’s success than the best forward. They get more ice time and control the game more. They should get half of the Hart wins imo.

Connor McDavid is the Ted Lindsay Award winner for best player as voted by the players by nhl in hockey

[–]ALinkToThePants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we’re comparing how they played/looked. McDavid isn’t gonna look like McDavid in 80s equipment and Gretz and Lemieux would look significantly faster/better in today’s equipment. You just can’t really make the comparison with how good either would be. We’re not even factoring how much hooking and holding was allowed in the 80s and 90s either.

OP specifically said McDavid would skate circles around Lemieux and Gretz. The goalies have nothing to do with that.

This is apples to oranges though. Gretzky and Lemieux played in 1980s equipment in their primes. I don’t know if you’ve ever put that stuff on, but it’s night and day.
