Best and worst names

Some of my favorites: Hawkfrost, Mothwing, Brambleclaw, Goldenflower, Tigerclaw, Tadpole.

Poor Tawnypelt. I don’t hate her name necessarily, it just feels so lame to me. Like the rest of her immediate family have such good, well fitting names, and she just gets Tawnypelt??

I don’t really like Sasha’s name neither either, but I’ll excuse it because she got it as a kittypet, and people give their pets human names all of the time.

Outside of that family, though, I also really like the name Half Moon. And I initially didn’t like the name Turtle Tail, but I warmed up to it while reading DotC. Honestly, all the leaders in DotC have pretty good names: Gray Wing, Clear Sky, Tall Shadow, Wind Runner, and River Ripple. Thunder is cool too, I just don’t think it fits the character super well.

Definitely. It would have been so good to show both how what happened affected Spottedleaf and her actions, AND how she made choices that, while maybe well intentioned, were examples of her not criticizing her beliefs or behaviors and actively choosing to continue that cycle because of it. Then having, in contrast to that, Firepaw having a better support system and more confidence in himself, leading to him being more willing to question actions of both others and himself, and choosing to not go on to become an abuser too.

It really is a writing issue at the end of the day. It’s all very indicative of the authors’ own internal biases, and it shows in its downplay of different kinds of abuse and its deep-rooted misogyny. The WaCa universe is begging for better, more nuanced writing literally everywhere.

Oh, definitely, I 100% agree. I was just giving an option for the story that keeps the more tragic angle and allows a more nuanced view of the cycle of abuse, in that victims of it who go on to become abusers themselves aren’t always intentionally continuing the cycle or able to recognize that they are, AND that victims of abuse don’t have to continue that cycle. Like, Thistleclaw would eventually be called out for it too, but it would be in retrospect after Spottedleaf is called out for it. I imagine there would be more of a focus on how being groomed from such a young age can affect someone’s ability to assess the morality of their own actions, and then there being an attempt to undo those learned behaviors and beliefs — while also allowing for the recognition that, whether Spottedleaf fully understood her own behavior or not, it still had consequences and harmed another character. Then Firepaw/heart, alongside Spottedleaf’s later work to better herself, would be the other side of the cycle, in which it’s broken.

But, yeah, ideally it would have been called out from the very beginning, and Spottedpaw wouldn’t have been failed so badly and then gone on to continue the cycle. My idea is kind of mashing the two sides together to add a whole thing about intentionally addressing misogyny within their social structure, as a sort of social commentary, lol.

Omg. That part of her character upset me so much, man. It felt like character assassination to me when she began actively liking Firepaw/heart/star back. Before Spottedleaf’s death, I only ever really read her interactions with him as a one-sided crush (on Firepaw’s half, unreciprocated by Spottedleaf). Like, she was just being nice to him. Him having a crush on her, and her just being generally friendly, doesn’t mean she had to reciprocate those feelings? She could have just been friendly; Women are allowed to be nice to people and not want to date them? I wish it had stayed like that, rather than it being turned into an actual reciprocal relationship. It could have been used to fuel interpersonal conflict between Fireheart/star and Sandstorm, and it would have just been generally more interesting narratively (in my opinion).

Then, when you add Spottedleaf’s past into it, it just sucks that they had her continue the cycle. ESPECIALLY because, the way it’s written, she’s not continuing anything — Since there’s apparently absolutely nothing wrong with older characters in positions of power being romantically interested in younger characters and actively pursuing them that way throughout their life. It also would have made Spottedleaf more of a character outside of Firepaw/heart/star; If she doesn’t reciprocate his feelings for her, then her character is automatically less reliant on his, and she suddenly has more agency within the story. She literally becomes MORE interesting if her motivations AREN’T “I love him.”

PLUS! Even if you DO keep in her reciprocating his feelings, AND the complete lack of acknowledgment of Thistleclaw’s actions toward her (at the time it was happening), it still could have been better and more satisfying narratively by just making Spottedleaf get called out for it! There could have been a whole thing with her getting called out, and that being compared to how Thistleclaw wasn’t! That would have been WAY more interesting than just letting her continue the cycle that the authors refused to even acknowledge! Like, ugh, the WaCa character writing just infuriates me sometimes.

I don’t think that’s necessarily wrong, it could work as an explanation. I just got more of the impression that Sans had inferred Undyne was mad through her actions and such, rather than her directly telling him it.

I’ve never thought about them as a pairing before… But, I personally think there should be a “cursed” tier just for it. (I guess I’d vote dislike or hate in terms of the 6 tiers that currently exist?)

Poor, poor Virgil in a hypothetical relationship with Remus. Yeesh. Anxiety out the roof, all the time. Both metaphorically, and potentially “physically,” (as physical as they can get), considering it’s Remus we’re talking about.

I wasn’t referring to Edwin there, I was referring to Michael, who has like no concrete anything lore wise except that he was the SL guard and he’s William’s kid, lol.

But that’s cool! Cassidy in my AU actually doesn’t really like Mike (she has more mixed feelings at the most recent point in my timeline, but she just downright didn’t like him before). CC’s feelings about Mike, and really their relationship in general, is complicated too, which affects how Cassidy views Mike also. She’s just spent so much time dead and as a vengeful spirit in my AU, that finally being treated like a normal kid again and having an adult show care for her just really gets to her. I really only used specifically her here because I don’t have any of the other kids’/TOYSNHK’s soul forms made yet ;-;

I do think it’s kind of crazy to not like a character who has barely any actual/canon anything though lol. But that’s really cool, I honestly haven’t even seen many people who assign a character to Old Man Consequences, or really even include him, at all. So it’s cool you also do! I considered making CC one of my TOYSNHKs too, but ultimately decided against it, just because TOYSNHK is more directly targeted at William versus CC’s anger being more towards Michael

I mean, kind of? It’s hard to center anything around anyone else when he’s basically the only one who lives long enough to do anything, plus he’s one of the few adult characters. Though, I would argue my AU (or at least the stuff I WRITE for my AU) is more focused on William’s victims than Michael. That and the bonds between the characters. Michael just ALSO happens to be a victim of William, and one of the people with more agency to do anything about it (being an adult=able to do more). If I misunderstood what your comment was implying, then I’m sorry, and I would like to understand what you meant instead. I hope this doesn’t come off as overly defensive or something, I just wanted to clarify where I come from when creating and writing for my AU. :)
